  1. After reading the "What would you do if you had it all to do over" thread i noticed nearly every sub 5 handicapper said they'd of got lessons from the very start. So that's what I'm gonna do, I was just wondering if there is anything in particular to look out for when choosing a pro to give me a better chance of a good fit from the get go. Cheers Gav
  2. really helps bunker, cheers mate
  3. I kinda just jumped right in when I found this forum but hello all from the emerald isle. What I really want to say is for the new guys on here, welcome to probably the friendliest forum you will ever find. Since my first post I have posted nothing but questions seeing as I'm new back to the game, I'm sure a lot of the guys on here have seen similar questions a million times but they still dont hesitate to help you out. If you scan the active threads you will see discussions being had on a variety of subjects but I am yet to see any of the usual to and fro / arguments I'm so accustomed to from other forums which is really refreshing. To all the mods and regs I've encountered so far thanks, there are many more questions to be asked and answered but you have all helped a bunch. Anyway, that's that. Good luck and goodnight.
  4. Cant really help you with the value question, sorry. But Possibly if you move the thread to the clubs section one of the regs in there might know. Just a suggestion, Cheers
  5. Ok guys I'm gonna order mine tomorrow, I have a problem being decisive when buying golf stuff so here is my latest problem. I originally was going for the pro 7 but now I'm thinkin of getting the 7 pro x, reason being I at first opted for the easier to hit model because I am new to the game etc but now feel that even though it'll take longer to hit the pro x there is greater benefits to be had once I do learn to hit it. Does this make sense? Like i kinda feel like the normal pro 7 is cheating ( just obv cheating less than my standard 7i ). Btw may be a stupid question but does it stand a chance of helpin me hit my driver? I suffer with a beginners slice, if not cool but it'd be a nice bonus =)
  6. +1 really wanna watch this
  7. great thanks lads! that's exactly what i wanted.. to pick one ball and stick with it. Just out of interest can anyone explain the difference between the used balls? like why do people hate lake balls?
  8. great tip i picked up for white runners and shoes, an old toothbrush and white toothpaste.. worked every time i've done it. As if your brushing your teeth squirt a bit of toothpaste on the brush then run it under warm / hot water, scrub the shoes and then rinse off the suds etc with just water.
  9. This is gonna be a tough one for two reasons, The first is i haven't a clue about the different types and what they are used for etc. Secondly, I don't really know what info to provide in order to get suggestions. Anyway, when i started playing again a few weeks back it was a round on a whim with friends, didn't expect to become instantly addicted again, so knowing i would play rubbish i picked up a box of like 40 mixed balls ( not sure if they were lake balls or whatever ). There were loads of "name" brands in there and i just picked out the best condition ones and played with them. So, due to me being a pretty bad player my number of lost balls per round is pretty high so i need to get a ton of golf balls now but can be paying hundreds of euro on new pro v's etc. My playing partner is a 10 handicap and seems to know a fair bit, he said nearly every ball i was playing was to hard or not suited to me, i think he saw me playing with some top-flite model ( i dunno if it makes a difference seeing as i slice them ob or lose them in lakes lol ).. if it does make a difference what makes and models should i be looking for? Once i have determined what golf balls to get i will then be looking for deals like used or reclaimed etc.. problem is i don't really understand the difference between a lake ball and a reclaimed or any other variant of used ball. I don't see the point in buying a ton of spanking new balls to lose or damage a large percentage of them per round so what should i buy? ( lake, reclaimed etc ? ) as i said above If you need info on my game or clubs or courses to make suggestions let me know and i'll supply it. If a ball can give me even a slight edge then i want it =) Thanks for your time and apologies for the rambling post.
  10. Hmm let me think.. A7's! =)
  11. Hey, I had the same Issue a few weeks back when deciding between Di11's and A7's, three things that swayed me where 1) Price: i picked up a new set of A7's for half of what the Di11's were ( i know the Ci9's are cheaper ). 2) Loft: being a high handicapper i need all the help i can get, the wilsons had some pretty weird loft, the Ci9's are a bit different than the Di11's but are still about 1 degree less than the A7's on average. 3) Long irons: I couldn't hit a 3 or 4 to save my life so went with the hybrid option, these have become my go to clubs now ( just to give you an idea of how forgiving they are ). As you may have noticed i posted that i liked them so much i am getting the A7 2 iron hybrid also. I suppose the only pro the W/S irons had, i hit a few sets, was i liked their feel a lot more than the A7's.. don't get me wrong the A7's aren't bone shakers but the Wilsons just felt sweeter on impact imo. Both are good looking clubs and neither will do your game any harm ;-). Hope that helps even a bit, I actually hated trying to choose but i think i made the right decision in the end for me and my game. Good luck
  12. 100% getting one, its decided. Straight after i get my new 2 hybrid ;-).. hey, i need something to get me out of trouble on the course while i learn how to hit correctly on the range
  13. very true mate, perhaps i read it as technical due to people trying to describe a "feel", i fell into this trap myself lol using strange examples that make sense in my head but maybe not others. At least i know i understand it now though, all that is left to do is put it in practice, shouldn't be to hard right? ;-)
  14. i assumed this might be the case seeing as every one available was a stiff shaft, thanks for letting me now
  15. sorry didn't even think of that =)
  16. Hey, Purchased a set of A7 hybrid irons a few weeks back and love them so much, the 3 and 4 hybrid are a dream to hit so i'm thinking of getting the 2 hybrid ( 17 degree reg flex ) and forgetting about a 5 wood. I got my irons from rockbottom for a GREAT price but on looking around the 2 hybrid is likely to cost about half of what the whole set cost.. I have found two decently priced used ones ( both 9/10 under 10 rounds hit ) and may go for one of them only they are both stiff flex and my set is reg flex. I have exhausted Google and eBay, I'm in Europe and its tough to get Adams stuff here plus i don't 100% trust eBay sellers for golf clubs. Any ideas at all would be really appreciated, Cheers
  17. first thought that came to my mind also ;)
  18. Thanks for your input bunker, much appreciated.. Lastly do you think my choice of the 7 pro striker is best to improve my overall ball striking?
  19. Anywhere I can catch this online?
  20. OK, i still dont get why LAG is such a technically explained concept? Its basic physics, newtons third law "every action has and equal and opposite reaction", so when we swing our club back and then change this momentum at the top of our swing to a forward swing the club heads momentum makes it still want to move backwards "equal and opposite" therefore we feel the shaft / grip put pressure on our right index finger area. I was a competitive beach angler in my teens and "LAG" was a vital element of the cast to achieve distance, ie the tip of the rod is behind your hands and the weight on the end of the line is behind the tip of the rod at all times during the cast until release ( causing the bow like shape in the rod ) So i understand LAG and lean, what i want to know is with this club will continual use teach my body how to swing the club correctly to achieve the above with a golf club by pure intuition? ie will it over time change my back swing, pivot, swing speed etc until i can hit it sweet or will i need to have a very good swing already Edit: I'd be looking at the 7 pro if i was getting any of them, not the pro x as the sweet spot is ridiculously small lol
  21. Lame.. the first hammer thread was funny, the other two not so much
  22. Ok guys i'll bite haha Let me ask a question ( possibly asked before on this thread, if so apologies ), all of the people posting about using this aid or not using but recommending it from a theoretical point of view seem to be playing off some pretty low numbers. I am assuming while this can help you guys a bit you should already have a decent swing with some amount of lag and lean.. So what about the high handicappers or me yet to get mine, does this club do what it says on the tin for us? like if i use one for X amount of balls by X amount of days a week will i intuitively develop lag and better ball striking or will i spend all my time duffing balls all over the range cause im not "good" enough to reap its benifits. I keep reading that if a lot of guys had their start in golf again they'd get lessons straight off so that they could build a proper swing instead of fix a bad swing later on, i am really thinking of doing this. Being at this stage of my golf game ( very new to it ) should i consider adding one of these to my routine also and if so which one. I dont get why they have 5,7,8 and wedge, surely learning to hit one is learning to hit all?
  23. If it wasn't for our weather I'd say we'd be in the top ten places for golf ( maybe we still are? ), my username kinda gives it away ;-)..Co Dublin, Ireland.
  24. sorry forget my last post, the vids on the tour striker site showed what i was looking for..
  25. Hopefully not hijacking the thread, I'm new back to the game, I'm pretty sure i understand what you're trying to achieve here. the very center of your club head hitting the middle - top half of the ball while the blade of the club cuts into the grass at basically the same position as where the ball sat on the grass, is this correct? ( sorry if that sentence was a tad unclear ) Anyone know of any good vid's that explain this in fairly simple terms? I know i wont be hitting like this for a long time but still better to know about it than ignore it and fly my shots a mile high forever =)
