  1. Tiger's Bag At the last tournament, he carried a 2 iron. If you click on each of the last tournaments, he's been carrying a 2 iron for a while.
  2. That is so f'in sexy. I like this thread a lot.
  3. That's very interesting. I started doing that as well and have been a bit more accurate with my driver and woods.
  4. I think that its already in my head. I need to get away from the club, build confidence in my irons, so I can clear my head. With a clear head, I can probably be successful with the driver.
  5. From what I understand, the swing doesn't change, but ball position changes. The ball position allows the iron the hit the ball on the lowest part of the downswing - placing the ball in the middle of your stance. Moving the ball forward, placing the ball on the inside of your left/front foot, allows the driver to hit the ball as its making its upswing - akin to a sweeping motion off a tee.
  6. And stick your butt out.
  7. As others have said, the driver is the most difficult club to hit. Can't explain why you are able to hit the Wal-mart driver so well. May have to do with the different type of shaft and flex on the shaft. What loft angle is the Sumo 2 and what kind of shaft does it have? Anyways, your iron play will determine how well you play every other club. Why? Because I believe the fundamentals are taught through iron play. Fundamentals such as properly addressing the ball, stance, posture, ball position, and swing plane. In addition, your irons are going to get you on the green, not the driver, or the woods, or the hybrids. On a moderately distanced par 4, you can get away with playing your irons and still play a decent round of golf. Personally, I don't have the success you have with the driver. I can't hit is straight nor can I hit it consistently. I have now focused on mastering my irons before I even lay an eye on the driver. After irons, I will focus on the fairway woods/hybrids, and then finally the driver. IMO, the driver will be a bonus. If I can hit the irons, woods, and hybrids straight and consistent, I won't need a driver ;)
  8. How long were your lessons and what was covered in this lessons?
  9. Anytime I have hit the driver, the ball was usually lined up with my left armpit. Towards the front.
  10. Background I started playing golf about 6 weeks ago. A friend of mine invited me to play 18 holes. Never played before. Went to the driving range for fun, but never hit balls with any sound form or purpose. So I decided to buy a set of Adams Tight Lies from Dick's Sporting Goods. Then for the next 2 weeks prior to the 18 holes, I read a couple of books and checked out golf tip sites. I formed a grip using the books and off I went. I sliced pretty badly and hit a couple of solid shots. Everything else was skulled, shanked, sliced, or hooked. Between Now and Then I started to go to the driving range more often and tried to perfect my swing on my own. I hit the ball more consistently and figured out what my problems were. Still couldn't iron them out on my own. Participated in my first pro lesson yesterday. She noticed a slight flaw in my grip, taught me how to formally address the ball and properly line the club to the ball. Really great lesson. I ignored my driver and have started to focus on the wedges, and 9/8 irons. So far have been very consistent and can probably average about 135 yards on my 9 iron. Flaws She moved my right thumb off the shaft. Straightened out my posture. Clubface to ball directs address of hands at setup. Questions How long did it take most of you to master the driver swing? I can hit the 9/8 irons pretty consistently, but once I touch a 7 iron, my shots start to vary much more so. So interesting how much one club makes a difference. Just wanted to share my experience and encourage others to take lessons. They help a lot. I've already scheduled a second lesson in two weeks!
  11. The longer the club, the farther up from the middle it should be. I always play my irons in the middle of the stance. I place the ball in line with my left armpit (righties) for the driver and woods.
  12. I'm not a low handicapper by any means, but I've always been taught to grip the club in the fingers, not the palm.
  13. That's a great story. Curing the slice is important. I've tried almost everything to cure mine, except one thing - the one thing that the owner mentioned you do - strengthen your grip. I'm going to be trying that out on my next outing.
  14. Accounting Compliance Manager in NY.
