You are also rocking back on your back swing. You can see that your weight shifted to the outside of your right foot which is hard to recover from and can cause slices. You should really keep the your weight on the inside of your right foot.

Contantly pushing my mid to long irons (video)
gbk56 replied to osean79's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The one thing that struck me was that your right hip seems to rise a bit on your back swing. I would suggest trying to keep your hips from changing levels. This is caused by the right leg trying to straighten out on the back swing. -
Well, I guess I could get there on two on a good day. However, most of the time I would probably leave myself about 130 to 140 yards away hitting a Driver then a 4 iron. However, if I had a good drive, I was hitting the ball well and there was a lot of space for mishits, I may go for it in two. I chose 130-140 with an eight iron.

Ah, this is precisely what I needed to do. I moved the ball further up toward the middle of my stance and this added more height and spin. I tried opening up the club face and this added even more spin. I actually was hitting this shot in the beginning of the season, but was not getting enough roll. I then moved the ball back to get more roll. Forgot that I orginally had it more forward for more loft and less roll. Thanks!

This statement is just wrong. The criteria as I understand it is below: 1. The 2006 LPGA money leader (Lorena Ochoa) 2. The 2006 Vare Trophy winner for low scoring average (again Ochoa) 3. This year's four major champions 4. The next 14 on the LPGA money list at the conclusion of the Navistar Classic on September 30 5. The leading money winner on the Ladies European Tour 6. One sponsor's exemption The sponsors expemtion has nothing to do with Gulbis. If Wie withdrew I am sure they would have given the exemption to Anika or someone else. The only reason Anika did not accept her exemption is becuase she actually did not qualify for the tournament and would have taken Angela Parks spot by accepting the last second made up expemtion to get her into the tournament. I guess Wie could have given up her exemption, but I do not think the tournament could take away the exemption that they already offered to her. In any event Gulbis did not get an exemtion or qualify for the tournament, neither of which Wie's exemption had anything to do with.

Yeah, I can fortunately play every weekend if I want. The cost of a round is a couple hundred dollars though unless you are a member then its only about $120 (golf membership fees range from $100,000 to $500,000). We played a five hour round last weekend and that was considered extremely fast. We had to wait at the turn and also between holes 14 and 15 or something like that. Fairways are pretty narrow. Really gotta be accurate.

Feet apart Ball toward the back Weight forward Hands slightly forward Should I move the ball forward?

I find when I start mishitting balls off the toe of my club, my shoulders are not relaxed enough. I usually try to concentrate on relaxing my shoulders and I begin to make better contact. I believe that when my shoulders are not relaxed my spine tightens up causing a slightly more upright posture thereby moving the club head closer to your body causing me to hit the ball with the toe of the club.

Cowboys amazing comeback against the Bills on MNF!!!!
gbk56 replied to BogeyGolfer19's topic in Sports
Thats true, but a good team can overcome a bad game. The cowboys showed me a lot taht they could ovecome those overwhleming odds when it would have been very easy to just fold and lose the game. Especially a newcomer like Romo. -
I agree this should be a simple shot. I do practice at the range, but do not have access to a real green (just astro turf greens) for practice (makes if difficult to determine how much roll I will get). Initially I had problems with aim but I opened up my stance a little and put more weight on my front leg and tried to keep it quiet throughout the swing. This seems to have worked for accuracy. Now distance is my main problem. The trajectory of my shot is usually about 2 to 2.5 feet in the air to hit it about 5 yards. My sand wedge I believe is 56 degrees and I choke up on it about halfway down the grip. When the ball lands it just seems to roll and roll and roll. On my old course I was okay with a PW, but on the new course I play (it is in the mountains) the ball just seems to take off on the green. I chaged to the SW because I thought having more loft would help. It did help a little to have more loft, but not enough. How far would you hit your ball? 5 yards? 10 yards?

Like was previously stated the specs for golf clubs sold in asia are different, because of the different body types of asians. I just moved to Korea (born and raised in Philly, but my parent are from Korea) and found this whole market of Asian spec (or Japan Spec) golf equipment. From what I understand the shafts are a little shorter and have a little more flex, and I think the flex point is different too. These clubs are made for people with an asia build. (probably males from 5'5" - 6' weighing between 130lbs to 180lbs) All the clubs in my signature were bought in Korea with Asian specs. I think that these clubs work really well for me. Especially my MX-25's. Also the Taylormade R7 Super quad and my Adams woods are asian specs although they are US companies. I think I hit the asian spec clubs more consistently. In the US I could not get these types of shafts unless I went to a Korean owned golf shop. There are several in the Washington DC metropolitan area and I am sure there are plenty in California.

Do you think more than a 20 deg hip turn is too much?
-
Thanks everyone for the advice. I am usually in the rough on these shot and hit it pretty solid. I am using a distance ball, so maybe I have to use a softer ball, use a more lofted club and try to get the ball in a better position with more green to work with.

I was in this situation this weekend except there was no creek and instead of trees, it was the side of a mountain about 120 meters high. I drew it around the mountain to about 100 yards out, missed the green on my approach, was on in 4 and two putted for bogey.

Do you do pre-shots routine at the range?
gbk56 replied to ClintonM3's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I try to always do my preshot routing. In some cases I try to replicate a round. I will say to myself you are on a 360 meter par 4. Hit Driver first. Based on the driver distance select the next club and keep going from there. In some cases I work on particular clubs. Say a 7 iron. I will go through my pre shot routine then hit my first ball. Step away, stand behind the ball to aim, then go through my preshot routine and then hit my second ball. I try to hit 5 consistent shots in a row before moving onto the next club. If I have a bucket of balls I usually put the bucket next to my bag which forces me to step away every time to get another ball to hit. -
I have been having some problems with hitting shots that are 10 yards or closer to the green. Often times the greens are so fast that I can't stop my shots. I usually take a sand wedge at this distance and try to hit the ball to edge of the green and let it run the rest of the way to the hole. Usually my aim is pretty good. The ball runs a few inches away from the hole and continues a good 10 yards or more past the hole. I've even tried to hit the rough first in some cases when conditions allow, but I get the same results. For example, this weekend I was about 5 yards from the green and the hole was about 20 yards away and slightly downhill. I chose a spot about 4.5 yards away on the first cut of rough to land the ball an let the ball run the rest of the way. I hit the spot, the ball ran about an inch from the hole, and ran past the hole about 12 more yards. I wanted the ball to stop at least within 3 to 5 yards. Any advice? Should I get more of a lofted club?

Cowboys amazing comeback against the Bills on MNF!!!!
gbk56 replied to BogeyGolfer19's topic in Sports
I am an Eagles fan, but I will have to admit that I was impressed how Romo overcame 5 pics, a fumble and some adversity at the end of the game and still manage to kepp his coolk and get them into range for the winning field goal. Great team effort. -
I was practicing on the range today and hit some balls at the end of my session allowing my right hip (right handed golfer) to more fully turn instead of restricting them. I usually try to somewhat restirct my hip turn to allow more of a coil between my shoulder turn and hip turn. When I allowed my hips to more fully turn I had more of a weight shift and hit the ball a lot further and seemed more consistant. My shoulders also turned a little more than usual. However toward the end of my practice sessions, I usually get in a groove and can hit everything pretty consistently regardless of my set up (within reason of course). Anyone have any thoughts on how much of a hip turn one should make, and how much you should restrict your hip turn versus your shoulder turn?

Yeah, pretty depressing. I think the next game is a must win.

I think you did.

I think newer technology will help out on misshits a lot. Depending on your game it could help out a little or a lot. However if you have a bad swing, all the technology in the world will not help very much in scoring better. You are better off investing in lesson from a pro than new clubs. In short, it is usually nice to have the new technology but it is not entirely necessary in most cases. I combined both. I had lessons, developed a mediocre swing, bought new clubs (upgraded from spaldings to mizuno, adams and taylormade) and can feel the reward of hitting nice shots and get nice correction for misshits. With my old clubs if I misshit a ball I would be in real trouble.

Ah it's nice to be a Phils fan.

264 yards on a 364 par 4 dog leg left. I hit it with a nice draw to the 100 yard marker. Chunked the approach, bladed the chip and two putted for a bogey (worst feeling in the world).

100%, but the ball just seems to react differently every time. actaully I am in the 60% range

I think all you have to do is tell him you goofed and get him some golf balls. He should also admit that it was pretty lame to show up in jeans. I would ask him "what were you thinking?"
