I play a Taylormade Superfast 2.0 4 wood instead of carrying a 3 & 5 wood. My home course is pretty short nd it comes in handy for long par 3s. It lets me carry an extra wedge which I use much more often. I almost never hit my 5 wood when I carried it. It's shorter than my 3 wood was but has good trajectory and better gap from my driver to be more useful for me.

Plastic piece above club head cracked - see picture
Mithrys replied to mgd150's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That part is called a ferrule. The ferrule is purely cosmetic to make the transition from the club head's hosel to the shaft a smooth transition. Its attached with epoxy. Just be careful that little piece is moving and the shaft is not slipping in and out of the club head. I doubt it since you said the ferrule is cracked, it probably just that. -
Love the game and still playing every night. After many, many rounds I started to get the point of needing the extra clubs. Then I ran low on golf bucks to buy them and it's really challenging me now. I love it from all angles.

We had a bobcat on hole 4 last weekend. I dread the day I might run into a mountain lion.

I have a 52.8, 56.11 and 60.8. I find I go through streaks and each has been my go to club around the greens at different times. Maybe as I get better I will understand those streaks. It could be in my head or the climate since I play through the winter here in high elevation California.

The Bridgestone E6 is good. I found one the other day and tried it. I ended up finishing the whole round with since i liked it so much. Then I bought a dozen:-) I see Srixon AD333 is mentioned here, but if the OP wants to try a Srixon ball, the Soft Feel matches his requirements better. It's Srixon's ball targeted for slow swing speeds

It may be the specific hybrids are just a poor fit for you. I had a couple Adams A3 hybrids and just could not hit the ball. I'd top it usually. Then a buddy saw I played taylormade irons and gave me a rescue mid he had lying around 16*. I can swing a 2 iron, but will drop it for the rescue club since its much easier to hit from the rough. I love it and its my go to club now. I can hit it from 140-200 by lengthening my swing. It has way more heft than the Adams so it swings like an iron. I think I just had a problem with the others being to light.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Mithrys replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I just got a taylormade R7 2 iron and 3 iron. I just don't feel good hitting hybrids, so I completed my iron set with all irons. This should help my game a lot. Also grabbed a Ogio 2010 Sultan cart bag. It's branded Srixon, so I got for $95 instead of the $162 I have been seeing online. I think I like it better than the 2011 but time will tell :-D -
Funny, I just upgraded from my old Adams assaults circa 1997 to Taylormade R7 circa 2008. I gained 15 yards with the new clubs but I assume any other game improvement set from another company would have done the same. Love the clubs though.

I would love an extra large Wow that was easy!

I am torn between a rescue hybrid or a 2 iron. I don't hit my #4 fairway wood very well, so a 2 iron would be nice. I have a hybrid in my bag now but am replacing it with a 3 iron, just because I hit irons so much bteter than anything else.

I live in a remote area with a private club. Easy to go out alone. My golf buddy works in the city, so I go out once or twice a week alone. I like the chance to focus on the course and try things I wouldn't do when competing with friends.

Funny, when I went to the Titleist site and did their ball fitting it seemed to emphasize that amatuers will benefit from a better ball and the message I got was that the ProV1 is the best but NXT was available for those who didn;t want to spend the money. Now Srixon is sending the message that amateurs may be better of playing a lower spin ball and promoting the Q-Star. The two companies seem to have very different philosophies. In my own expeience, I have played a wide variery of Srixon balls and the Z-Star is awesome. I define awesome not only by feel and spin, but also by the fact that I never seem to lose them because the ball is going where I want it to. The Q-Star is next best for me and just is not as soft on very short game work like chips and putts. The other ball that i played well and almsot never lost is the SF-Lady. So keep that in mind when you decide if my opinion matters :)

Which ball for me help?
Mithrys replied to clarky75's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Wow, Z stars for $25? I love the z star but their 44 when I have seen them. I have been playing q stars usually for 25 a dozen. They fly straight. I rarely lose one anymore. I do like the z star a bit more around the green though, it's a bit softer feel. I have no complaints about the q stars though; they are great balls that I'd compare the Titleist NXTs. -
preowned Skycaddie from ebay. question
Mithrys replied to shamus's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I bought one from a regular guy and not certified. When I tried to register and download courses it told me that it was registered to the old owner so I could not download. I called their customer support and they had me fax a receipt to prove I bought it. Then they reset it and I was good to go. -
Thanks for the help, just wanted to update. I kinda like the mallet style even though its usually associated with SBST. So I got a Cameron Red X 5 and its been a huge help to my putting.

An Adams 5 wood and some UnderArmor base layer for the next couple months!

Ignoring the cost, I do find that playing one consistent ball has helped me even if it's just a mental crutch. I think if you gave me a Srixon I could tell you what model it was after nine holes. I cannot say which is better though, but having one ball eliminates the consistency questions in my head. I know I can't blame the ball. When I find a ball and play it and misfit I always wonder if it me of the ball. Deep down I know it's me.

I have read many threads on putters here on TST; but would still like some help. I want a new putter because I think my current never compromise ncx-ray is great but seems to fight me in the back swing. I think it's engineered for a SBST stroke but i have a natural arc stroke. I determined my stroke style by setting up in putting address next to a wall with the putter 1/4" off the base board. When I try to hit SBST it's erratic, when i do it naturally, it's 3 inches ff the board on back and through but hits the 1/4" mark for impact. On the course,I see my putter trying to pull to the right and forward, while my hands want to pull back and right. My buddy just got a Scotty Cameron Newport and it feels so smooth I think its time for a change for me. My question for the group is what Scotty Cameron works best for the arc swing? I am used to a mallet but can adjust if needed. Before my never compromise, I played a ballata insert mallet that was awesome but seemed to always leave me short on lags. I am starting to think the hotter never compromise putter is just filling the short lags at the expense of the accuracy 6 feet and less.

If you had to have one brand of clubs in your bag....
Mithrys replied to golf4tito's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just took the game back up after 12 years. I decided to upgrade my clubs which were Adams Assault VMI. No second thoughts, I went straight to Adams and chose a newer set. I vote Adams for the whole bag, but I do like the specialty putter brands. My whole bag is Adams except for my Never Compromise NCX-Ray putter. Putters are so special, I'd go for an integrated single brand for everything else, but look to the specialty putter brands for that 1 club. Also, keep in mind you can fill in with 1 brand but cross lines in the brand. I have A3OS irons, A3 Hybrids, Insight XTD Driver & FW, and Tom Watson Wedges.
