> Is the golf ball we play a reflection of our skill level or how important golf is to us or our egos? I think the latter. I'm currently playing to a 22 and I'm excited as heck to have picked up a boatload of Hogan "The Hawk" balls for about 18 cents apiece - I know that for my skill level this ball is all I need, and at that price I'm not going to spend much time looking for them if I hit one astray. ProV1/ProV1x for me? Waste of money.

I normally use a ball marker with a Chicago Cubs logo; if the Bears or Fighting Illini are playing that day, I'll use a marker with their logo. Mark the ball by filling in the "o" in Hogan and drawing a short aiming line, both with a green Sharpie. I don't like a lot of marks on my ball.

In general, deeper dimples will produce a lower ball flight, shallower dimples a higher ball flight.

I once asked this question of Ping Customer Service - the exchange: You asked: Do different length putters of the same model have different weight clubheads? Reason I ask: I own a 35" Anser 2 and I'm considering cutting it down to 34" or 33.5'. Will a 35" putter shortened to 34" perform any differently than a one that was 34" when purchased new? Ping replied: All of the putter heads weigh approximately the same (come out of the same mold). This being stated, we do not have a heavier head for shorter lengths. If you shorten your 35" putter down to a 34" or 33.5", it would be the same as if you ordered it that way originally. I hope this helps.

I'm surprised that she did well, even though I'm glad she did.

she was already complaining that her wrists will never be the same. So it looks like she is already finding excuses. http://www.golf.com/golf/tours_news/...714727,00.html Exactly. Her problem is between the ears. As it is with most of us. :)

From the Chicago office of the Better Business Bureau: Per a December 28, 2007 press release, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office filed a lawsuit today against BHM Golf, a company that faces a range of allegations including the failure to provide consumers with purchased products. The suit, filed in DuPage County Circuit Court, names Brian H. Meyer, doing business as BHM Golf of Villa Park, as the defendant. Madigan's Consumer Fraud Bureau and the Better Business Bureau have received more than 200 consumer complaints about Meyer's business practices. According to the consumers' complaints, BHM Golf allegedly has: - failed to send consumers the products they purchased, - sent consumers the wrong products, - sent consumers damaged or unusable products, - advertised products that were not in stock, - waited several months to ship purchased products, - overcharged consumers for products, - advertised no delivery charges and subsequently charged consumers a shipping fee, - failed to answer consumers' telephone calls and e-mails regarding service complaints, or acted in a belligerent and abusive manner in response to consumer complaints or inquiries, and - refused to refund consumers' accounts for failure to deliver, delivery of the wrong product or overcharges. Madigan's lawsuit alleges that Meyer violated the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and asks the court to prohibit Meyer from engaging in the business of selling sporting goods over the Internet and from further violating Illinois' consumer protection laws. The lawsuit seeks restitution to consumers and court costs. In addition, Madigan's suit seeks a civil penalty of $50,000 and additional penalties of $50,000 for each violation found to have been committed by Meyer with the intent to defraud.

FYI... Golfsmith now has the practice version of the Black Max for $10.97/dozen on their web site. Free shipping if you pick it up at your local Golfsmith store. -
Slow play, motormouths with more vocal volume than talent, unwanted advice, and cheaters. Hate 'em all. Once got paired up with a guy who exhibited all four... by the 4th hole I was ready for one of us to die.

My freshman year of high school. Got a starter set for Christmas and started playing as soon as the courses opened - there was a Par-3 course between my house and the high school that I could play for 50 cents [!] after 4:00 PM.

I'd been looking for a set of Hogan Apex Edge Pro irons in decent condition and had been monitoring eBay and the Callaway Pre-Owned site. For several weeks in December Callaway had a set listed in "Good" condition for $207, but I was holding out for one in at least "Very Good" condition. But last Saturday a set showed up on eBay, sold by ProLine Pre-Owned - the eBay branch of Calloway Pre-Owned. In "Good" condition, with a Buy It Now price of $124.99 [$134.94 including shipping]. I noticed that the set on Callaway Pre-Owned was no longer listed. Looked like a good price so I bit the bullet and clicked "Buy". Set arrived today. Good packaging in a sturdy box, separate plastic sleeve for each club. It's in better than "Good" condition, not quite good enough to be called "Very Good". As one might expect, the most used-looking clubs are the 8, 9 and PW/"E". What looks like a new Golf Pride V-55 grip on every club except the 3 iron, which has a somewhat worn Winn V17. Considering that the PGA Value Guide resale price for a set in "Good" condition is $171... I'm pleased.

Question on modifying shaft length on eBay iron set
cubfanbob replied to cubfanbob's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can see that the swingweight would change... but why would the lie change? And... would the swingweight of the shortened set be any different than that of a standard length set bought from stock? -
Hi there - I'm looking at an eBay listing for a set of irons [steel shaft, standard flex] that includes the following note: "The 3-7 irons are +1" and 8-PW are +.5" long." If I remove 1" from the butt end of the 3-7 and .5" from the butt end of the 8-PW, the result will be a set that is standard length. My question is this: will the shaft flex still be standard as well? Thanks in advance for your help!

Just stopped in my local Target in St. Paul MN. Ran a box of Wilson 50s through the scanner at the end of the aisle; it read "Item Not Found". Took it to Customer Service and it rang up as a Clearance item - $3.98 a dozen. Check it out.

CHICAGO, IL November 1 (AP) -- SMITH'S HOUSE VANDALIZED Chicago police reported that some individual attempted to "egg" Lovie Smith's house last night. The report states: An empty egg carton was recovered at the scene. Two eggs hit Mr. Smith's house, 3 eggs went over his house and hit his neighbor's back door, 2 eggs hit the houses of each of his next-door neighbors, and the remaining 3 eggs were found broken on the ground near the carton from where the individual threw them. Police officials say they are considering Rex Grossman as the primary suspect.

Anyone have any experience with the Grip One grips sold by The Golfworks? Their Golf Pride Tour Velvet equivalent/knockoff sells for 99 cents, the full cord version for about $2.50. Usually you get what you pay for, so I'm wondering how they hold up and perform, especially the full cord version. Thanks in advance for your help!

It's an awful lot easier with a vise.

How many balls do you lose in an average round?
cubfanbob replied to cbe_golfer's topic in Golf Talk
I voted 2-4, but the number of balls I lose in a round usually seems to be either zero, 2, or 5. Hardly ever 1, 3, 4, or 6+. Weird. -
Rose goes in the front, big guy.

Good riddance, Anthony - you arrogant sociopath.
