Swing the 'L' / Maintaining Wrist Cock

All the best things in life involve feel! :) -
.... I am not sure why noticing bad practice technique is me looking down on those who don't. Everyone on here talks about problems with someone's swing technique, commenting on bad practice technique isn't so much different. I never said the guy who brings driver and 7i is anything but practicing with bad technique. I never said he should care what I think, or that I look down on him. Everyone seems to think this is a "how do the dumba**es you see practice wrong" when it seems pretty obvious I only asked what people noticed as bad practice technique. It seems like only DavidinFL took this thread for what it is, not a thread for looking down on people. A few people decided it was negative and now everyone is because of that. I There's a lot more to me than a 4HDCP golf game, and I think if you read more of my posts on other threads instead of assuming I make fun of people because of how someone else interpreted my question, you wouldn't have made such a snide remark.

might have to email it to yourself. But you should be able to connect your phone to a computer with your charger cable and put it on here.

And start a my swing thread! I think almost everyone here would love to help out a young high school golfer.

What muscles make you drive the ball further?
onephenom replied to redhotchlypeppr's topic in Golf Talk
Agreed. Hip power makes a big difference, arm strength makes a small difference. -
I hear that! haha. But if you don't take much divot, and you miss with low bullets, there are a ton of explanations on getting the club bottoming out after the ball on this site, what it feels like, etc etc. Looks up the 5SK (5 swing keys). Super helpful. With a 14.7 handicap, definitely work on pars, then worry about birdies :)

1. Lead arm should be firm but not rigid/tense. Shouldn't have to lock your elbow, so you're right about maintain a firm right arm. The key to lagging the club is making sure you keep that arm firm, grip firm, but don't keep your wrists tense so that you don't hit at the ball with a cast. If you start the downswing with your body, just before the arms/hands finish the backswing, you'll have a much easier time holding the lag into impact. 2. No. -
He's right! Without seeing your swing, I imagine that you don't take divots or your divots are very small... A great divot hits it's low point about 3-4 inches in front of the ball, because of a good downward strike. I would continue to work on hitting the middle/fat of the green though. 14 gir with long putts will beat 7-8 gir with sometimes short putts. (just get it on the green and get good at lag putting! :) )

Just like the title says... personally, there are 2 things that bug me. 1. People who bring driver and 7i (sometimes just one of those) and bang balls for 30 minutes 2. People who go to the practice green and practice chipping from 1 foot off the green to a tight pin... a shot that hardly ever happens for most people. Why not practice from 20 feet away? Practice pitches, soft shots, etc. People just practice the easy chips.

Then go to masters.com Not sure why there are negative comments about Holly Sonders... she's gorgeous and does an adequate job!
-
It's easy to prevent the club from breaking if it's an iron or wedge! just turn the toe of the club to the ground... won't break and you can still get upset :)
-
Why are you watching the golfchannel instead of masters.com or cbssports.com?
-
Perhaps some more shoulder turn (not sure if the injury has anything to do with restriction on your back) will keep your hands from getting too far behind and help kee the club on plane longer.
-
I think what's causing you to come back too inside is folding your right arm right away and rolling your wrists. Try keeping your right arm straighter for a bit longer, might help with that.

Then I think Zeph is spot on.

The video makes sense but I'm not sure I see the difference between the two techniques. Partly because he says to lean the shaft just in front of the zipper... then he leans it way forward just like he says not to. When I look at the difference between what he's talking about... I really only see a different way of doing the same thing. His technique still has the hands in front of the ball at impact. Still accelerates into the ball. When he talks about "old school" style blocking the club and keeping the hands way forward... I don't see the difference between the two. The "old school" is phil's hinge and hold, and having the hands blocked like that is showing how important having the hands forward is. If you watch phil hit shots, he doesn't block. His hands release. Same thing with this new school, and same thing with erik and mike's method... except for the floaty loady :) Seems to just be a different explanation of the same impact position.

I'm not sure anyone said bulking up hurt... but you don't gain flexibility by lifting, you gain flexibility from stretching. Compare some little girl doing yoga(in hot yoga pants, better picture) to someone who bulks. Yoga (stretching) does a lot more than bulking. -
Tying myself in knots with the driver

Yep, I can understand trying the new set up. But that's probably why you couldn't incorporate it into play on the course, imo . It wouldn't see so foreign -

Don't hit 200 driver shots in a row. Practice like a round... hit a drive, then an iron, then a pitch, etc etc. Hitting 200 drivers in a row will not help -
Do the divots start past the ball or under the ball?
-
On wednesday, I turn on the TV. On sunday night, I turn off the TV

Yes but if you just use the hands/arms it's easy to flip. Using the body accelerates the club and keeps the hands in front.... just because it accelerates doesn't mean it has to go far
