  1. Of course, replaying a shot that has gone awry saves at least 2 strokes. Rolling the ball over in the fairway, which I don't do unless permitted by local rule, may not save any strokes at all. Absolutely, you don't know how many times I've had to salvage bogey on the 1st hole with a one putt because I hit an errant tee shot due to not being properly warmed up. But that's golf, you have to learn to accept your bad shots and recover from them; there is no do over.
  2. Thanks. I used to keep my I.D. in my bag, but then I lost it in a flood.
  3. Times have really changed since I played college golf. Back then (early 80s), well-off kids were the only ones who had steady instruction and it wasn't in the form of a coach, just occasional lessons at their parents' country club. The rest of us went to clinics and read books to learn the swing. But, it was more grip, stance, alignment and feel back then, rather than positions in the swing. I took a few lessons to learn the basics and that was it. I knew I lot of good golfers who had very little in the way of formal intruction and there was a self-taught PGA pro, Larry Nelson, who was winning multiple majors at the time. The most inexpensive way to get multiple lessons is to by them in a bundle of like 6 lesson an hour each for $200. Many driving ranges offer deals like than.
  4. That speaks to the point I was making previously. People are more concerned with being able to do what they feel is within their rights, rather than what common courtesy would dictate Their only concern was that you were in their tee box, so it was their right to play first. irrespective of what would make more sense. Same thing as practicing on a crowded course with people behind you becuase you feel your only obligation is to stay with the group directly ahead of you. While technically within your rights, both are dick moves.
  5. Yeah, too bad that's not what I said. Smoking a joint or two a day is worse for your health than having one or two drinks a day. Again, regular smoking of any kind does damaga to your respiratory system while regular, but moderate drinking can actually be medicinal. Just pointing out that when it's said alcholol is more damaging to your health than pot, it is referring to cases of alcohol abuse/addiction. In cases of steady, but moderate, use that is simply not true,
  6. This is the age old argument for pot legalization, but you are talking about alcohol ABUSE. Limited to a drink or two a day, alcohol can actually offer a health benefit, while any amount of regular smoking (pot or cigs), is detrimental to your respiratory health.
  7. Three Musketeers, a ball point pen, a comb, a pint of Old Harper, a couple of flash light batteries and some beef jerky.
  8. I have 6 Scotty Camerons 4 of which are in steady rotation (use a different one every round).
  9. I have played both Montclair GC and Essex County CC many times, both are fine venues. Natalie gulbis plays Montclair whenever she is in NJ visiting makeup artist Bobbi Brown who's husband is a member. And famous course architect Rees Jones is a member. And Essex County is one of my favorite layouts. I thought of one other semi-private course you could look into: Knoll West in Parsippany. The only drawback is they have outings pretty much every afternoon during the week, but if you can play in the mornings, it empty.
  10. GREEAATT! GREEAATT!
  11. Well, it's no wonder you've won club championships, you're registered as a 7 handicap when you're really playing off a 4!
  12. In 2011, I know both Kenny Perry and Natalie Gulbis did.
  13. Concentrate on establishing a smooth, consistent even tempo to your swing, regardless of speed. Some people naturally swing in a fast rhythm while others are slow. If your downsing feels rigid you are probably initiating it with your hands/arms. You have to start the dowsnwing with either a lead hip bump or, if it feels more natural, moving your lead shoulder forward as soon as it touches your chin at the top of the backswing.
  14. Well then, all that's left are the real country clubs and you have to know someone to sponsor you and they can get pretty costly. Arcola, Ridgewood and White Beaches are a few close to you.
  15. The trouble is that people don't want to put themselves in anyone else's shoes, obviously. It's all about what their "right" is and if they going nowhere they're going to do what's best for them; just as short-sighted and selfish in my opinion. It takes two to tango.
  16. The one thing I keep reading is it's okay to play two balls "if you're not holding anyone up". That is subjective. Many people interpret this to mean "well, we're only going to have to wait on the next tee anyway" so let me hit the shot again shot or look for extra balls in the hazard or retry that putt. You have to take into consideration what that looks like to the group behind you. They are waiting to hit, see the a person in the group in front of them hit an approach shot only to have to wait some more as that person then walks over to his second drive to play another approach shot. Nobody in that trailing group is thinking "well, he's not really holding anyone up because he'll only have to wait on the next tee box.". On empty course, you can do whatever you want, imo, but on a "absolutely packed" one where everyone's patience is wearing thin already, playing two balls is asking for trouble.
  17. In that case, how about semi-prvate Emerson: http://www.emersongolfcourse.com/Emerson-golf-membership.php I know a ton of real country clubs by you, but I'm picking course that would be easyand relatively inexpensive for you to join.
  18. Yeah, don't do it. So, you spend $20K and reach scratch by age 40, then what?
  19. Try this one, Black Oak in Long Valley: http://www.blackoakgolfclub.com/ It's new and with the economy the way it is, they are dying for members.
  20. This is for all you fanboys who think Tiger is intimidating :
  21. Jason Dufner -7 Jason Day -7 John Daly -7 The initials J.D. just kept popping up in my head.
  22. I like the driver in your avatar a lot better. The Tiger driver is a bit too "fanboyish" for my tastes.
  23. Angel's Envy and Four Roses.
  24. The Greg Kihn Band, when I was a freshman in college. It was 1983, at the height of his Jeopardy song fame.
