  1. Don't buy the Callaway golf net from Target. I hate hatin' on products, but I had the thing up for three weeks and the fiberglass rods snapped in several places from normal wear and tear of just hitting balls, mostly at half speed, into the thing. I'm thinking of building my own now as well because I don't want to drop $150 or more on something I can build with PVC pipe and netting from Home Depot for a fraction of the cost.
  2. There's a long list of "supplements" that are banned as performance enhancing. It would be very easy to take something on the recommendation of a nutritionist or doctor and not suspect anything if he/she recommended it. I'm pretty sure Jim Furyk's 5-Hour Energy bottle isn't on the banned supplement list, but he was on TV for years crowing about how it enhanced his performance. The words themselves aren't the mitigating factor. That he voluntarily turned himself in shows class.
  3. #1 - FL #2 - AZ #3 - CA #4 - SC #5 - OH Go, Arizona!!!
  4. Oh. Still a good experience, though. I understand that. I was just being a bit tongue and cheek. Considering I've never had 3 in a single round of golf in my life, I'd take it.
  5. I agree, because one guy is Tiger and the other guy isn't If Mike Weir ever wins a PGA Tour event again, I'll be shocked. If Tiger doesn't grab one at some point, I'll be equally shocked.
  6. I think I may be one of the only people I know who hits it worse when I try to take something off with driver. It may be the way I do it. Gotta film it someday, but I usually pull hook an "easy" driver swing.
  7. You are a + handicap and rarely make birdie? I just got really depressed Who did you play against, BTW? I think the only living guys who qualify are Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tiger Woods. I'm guessing it was The Black Knight.
  8. I agree with this, but I don't see Hillary making a change here. Bernie Sanders would be my Dem vote.
  9. Gentlemen's disagreement here... He's been talking about running for office for years. He was disillusioned with Bush and hated Obama (obviously!). I think he believes what he says, whether it's elitist tripe or whatever. I find it refreshing. I can't tell what Hillary really believes and half of the GOP announcements are vanilla stooges in my opinion. Her biggest campaign contributors are Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, and other big financial institutions that are supposed to be on the side of the GOP. To me, Bernie Sanders is a far more progressive, issue-driven candidate. I wouldn't be surprised to see him foil her run again like Obama did in '08.
  10. I don't disagree there.
  11. Kudos to Eldrick for recovering from that debacle with 3 birdies. Curious to see the rest of the tournament.
  12. I disagree that this is totally for himself. Anyone who would want to run for President of the U.S. as an ego trip is a wacko. He could happily go along with his billions, gorgeous wife, successful family, making/buying golf courses, buying/selling real estate, and be happy as a clam. Now every word that comes out of his mouth is under a microscope. I think Trump truly believes his version of America is failing and he thinks he has the confidence and power to make a change.
  13. I'm going on the record as well. When a source more credible than the National Enquirer reports it, I'll change my mind. I thought only 85 year-old women with Alzheimer's read that thing when they were at the checkout line at Safeway?????
  14. I used to despise Maher, but he's growing on me a bit :) I really think through all of the cranky bluster, his heart's in the right place. I honestly hope he doesn't pay up, though. The last thing the U.S. court system needs is a million dollar lawsuit that will take years to finish because some comedian cracked a thoughtless joke.
  15. I watched a pretty funny Youtube clip of a series of exchanges between him and Bill Maher yesterday. Bill Maher made a claim on Leno that he would give $5 million to Trump if he could prove definitively that his parents weren't orangutans (sp???). He was making fun of his orange hair color. Trump actually sent a copy of his birth certificate to Maher and asked him to pay up. When Maher didn't respond, Trump sued him. Maher brought a copy of the official complaint on to his show where his lawyer wrote "Donald Trump is actually the child of (whatever his parents names are) and not an orangutan." I think they are still fighting about it in court right now. Honestly, I've found it refreshing to have a non-politician in the race. As far-out as some of Trump's comments have been, they are not the normal slick, PC rhetoric that go through 55 speechwriters before they hit the air or press.
  16. I'm making a point of doing this from now on with every club shorter than a 5 iron. I'm realizing after my first tournament this past week that ego is a problem for me. I feel like I need to pull out my home run swing on every shot and it ruins me as the round progresses. Who cares if my opponent is hitting 7 iron to a 165 pin and I pull out a 6 iron? Monday morning I hit the range after the Sunday debacle and spent a lot of time hitting slow half-swings and thought to myself "Why not play this way?" When my consistency and stability (and fitness) get better, I'll maybe worry about adding distance. My new slogan - Proud to be a Wimp!
  17. I'd kill for a round of golf in Southern Alaska this weekend. If they have a course up there.
  18. I asked this question myself not long ago because it always puzzles me how athletes can fall off the map like this. I checked his stats for a few tournaments and saw that he was averaging like 240 off the tee and hitting 35% of fairways. Throw in 40% GIR and I couldn't believe this guy was a major championship winner. Tough to watch.
  19. Thanks for the tips all. Can't use the weather as an excuse any more!
  20. Working on a novel and I just read a long report about what would happen to the world if deterrence no longer worked and Russia or the US decided to start a nuclear war. Here's some tidbits: One Russian ICBM has more megatons of TNT than have been detonated by every bomb ever used the history of world warfare. They possess several thousand in their arsenal. If 1/10 of all worldwide nukes reached their targets during a war, 80% of the ozone layer would be wiped out, every human being within a 50 mile radius of a nuclear strike would be killed immediately or slowly over time due to radiation fallout unless they were secured in a highly fortified radiation-proof bomb shelter. Direct sunlight would become lethal after a few hours of exposure because the penetration of ultraviolet light would increase substantially. A day at the beach would either ensure you would get skin cancer or literally cook you depending on the temperature and UV level. I guess golf in Phoenix in the month of June would be a bad idea! Sobering stuff...
  21. I must be a really perspiring person because I used to have these, and they were tough to hold on to in the summer time! Great in the winter, though. Thanks for the rec !
  22. Advice needed: After playing this past weekend, I noticed that my perspiration problem is the last thing I need to worry about with my golf swing. Playing in 110 degree heat with 50% humidity didn't help. What kind of grips would you recommend for someone who sweats a lot? I like to play without a glove, but I don't know if that's a good idea for me. I seem to like really tacky grips like Winn Dri-Tacs, but I've heard that super-soft grips are not good for people with fairly high swing speeds because they tend to make your grip pressure get extra tense, which in turn causes the rest of you to tense up. Any truth to that? I've read some reviews here. A lot of people seem to like Pure Grips. Good for sweat hogs? Just looking for some thoughts. Thanks, folks.
  23. 95 on a course where ive never done worse than 87. can you say evolvr next week boys and girls?
  24. I think: a) he pulled the putt, but the bad bounce in question may have exacerbated the miss enough to make it a certain miss, b) it doesn't matter because Jordan Spieth may have had two bad bounces on Friday that were untelevised add a stroke or two to his score, which makes DJs final putt meaningless then (the old "last shot of a game seems more important than the hundreds of others than came before it effect"), c) the greens were awful. I watched a lot of the tournament and know with my own eyes that the balls made funny bounces as they crept near the hole on several occasions. I understand fast, difficult greens, but these looked particularly unkempt. Henrik Stenson said "it felt like putting on broccoli." I know he's a little outspoken, but that's a harsh criticism. d) DJ has a right to comment on the greens. Do we want athletes doing boring, meaningless interviews, or speaking their minds on occasion. e) if it wasn't for the greens, I prefer Chambers Bay (as a TV viewer) to Pinehurst. I loved the links-style layout, gorgeous views, elevation changes, and need for strategy for shot placement.
