  1. This has been my job for the last few summers and my course has a similar setup to yours (driving range and putting green close by). I program I taught followed us kids golf booklets and they went through each aspect of the game:putting, chipping, pitching, full swing and etiquette. There were two age groups I worked with so the younger group (7-11) had slightly simplified explanations for each section. It is extremely important to establish the rules of golf with the kids before letting any of them handle clubs. Etiquette first is also a good idea. We then began using simple terminology like hotdog in the bun for the proper grip and used other references that they would understand as well as keep their attention. During the beginning we primarily followed the book to a t, with the exceptions being the more experienced players that wanted to go to the course each day. But there are only so many times that the kids are willing to go to the putting green and range before they get antsy and begin sword fighting with the others. So after a group of 4-6 kids finished their booklet (3 weeks or so) they were sent on the course to apply their new skills. Its amazing how well they progress throughout the summer. I love being able to help build up golf's reputation in my area and creating future golfers at the same time. To wrap it up, make sure that you establish a set of rules, such as being quiet during the round, and making sure that everyone is clear of the person trying to swing. The idea of using stations is a good starting point and Im sure you will be able to improvise and come with new fun ideas along the way.
  2. I don't understand the fascination with long drives, yeah it may be nice on par 5s and but on most par 4s I would rather be 140 yards from the green than 90. I realize everyones home course is different, but I experienced this today. The 9th hole at my home course is a 400 yard dog leg right. I hit my first drive just inside the 150 marker, and just for fun I wanted to really get into one and laced a drive about 90 yards from the green. I proceeded to play both balls and hit the 140 yard ball to 4 feet, the 90 yard shot was short and about a 20 foot putt. I know everyones game is different, but I am better at my approach shots from >100 yards, and I am more comfortable hitting a pw than a half swing sand wedge. I would much rather have a 260 yard drive that is more consistant than a 300+ drive that misses the fairway half the time. As golf shots get closer towards the pin, the more important the shot become. So when I step up to the tee, I grab the club that will set me up for the best approach shot possible, not the one that gets me closest to the green.
  3. more this year, roughly 5 times per week.
  4. Titleist 909f3 3 wood with voodoo shaft.
  5. Same here. I much prefer the E5+ in the bridgestone lineup. However my ball of choice has to be the prov1. I also found the nxt tour/extreme to play great for the money. I also enjoy the hx tour, but they fall appart way to quickly for me.
  6. I know for me, I have always had issues hitting a driver. I also have a really high ball flight as well. I also know that have a different swing with my driver. Something about it causes me to swing faster as well as on a different plane. I guess its just the mental though of holding one in my hands that causes me to swing out of my shoes. You could be swinging your driver differently then all your other clubs, which might be affecting your yardage.
  7. I too hit an extremely high ball flight. I was at the range the other day, and a pro I work with commented saying that I hit a pw really far. I then told him I was actually hitting a 7 iron. Like HSip I have a tendency to lunge or jump up at impact. I go from keeping my knees bent to straightening them and almost going on my tippy toes at impact. This causes me to been off balance after my swing, and sometimes taking a step forward. I have tried to keep my head behind the ball, and making sure I have a smooth balanced swing. I have since purchased stiff shafted irons which helps somewhat, but I still have an extremely high ball flight.
  8. Well I played a round today with some people from work, and one of them comented that it looks like I jump up when I swing. Meaning that my shoulders go upwards instead of around following my hips. Is there anyway to keep myself from coming out of my swing and causing these problems?
  9. My golf game has been up and down all season, and come to think of it, for my entire life. For the most part, my shots are decent, but I tend to either pull or slice the ball when I hit it. sometimes, on longer clubs, it become exaggerated. I also notice that I come up and out of my swing when I shouldn't be. I want to know how I can correct this flaw in my swing. I tried to upload videos, but didnt have any luck.
  10. Some of these replies are outrageous! I have only ever played with someone who hit a ball around 300 yards last summer. His pitching wedge went around 145-155. He was a big dude, around 6'2" and 220 pounds. Needless to say, he was going off to play for a school in north carolina. My distances: Driver:230-260 19*:210 21*:200 4i:185 5i:175 6i:165 7i:155 8i:145 9i:130 pw:115 53*:100 60*:70
  11. definately get a wedge with bounce. I was told about a little trick that has helped me with my shots. Imagine a dollar bill in the sand, and the ball being the center of it. Try to scoop the "dollar bill" out of the sand, not making any contact with the ball. Making sure to accelerate through the ball. While doing this make sure you have an open clubface and stance. It may sound strange, but it worked for me.
  12. I agree, This is great info. Thanks Guys! I have my first match today and we'll see how I play.
  13. Thanks for the replies. I know I should be positive, but after repeating this process for the last few months I am getting pretty tired of it. What drives me crazy is that many of my birdie putts are around 10 feet, leaving me with a good chance. However, I can't get my putts close enough. I play my drives and irons better than most with my handicap, but putting kills me everytime.
  14. I had my last 18 hole qualifying round for my golf team today and I was not happy with my score. I ended up with an 88 which is far from good. I had a total of 41 putts, and 22 of them were on the front 9. I hit 12 G.I.R. and had many 3 putts to make bogey. Sorry for the rant, but I just don't know what to do. The course is not unknown to me, and I have been playing it for years. In the course of my last 3 years of high school, this year is by far the worst as far as putting. What do you guys do when you get into a putting slump? I forgot to mention that the practice green is nothing like the course conditions and probably only makes my putting worse.
  15. Thanks for the replies. I live in Maine, so it isn't exactly close to these schools, but that is what I would expect. I am currently employed on a golf course, which could possibly help me out.
