  1. 103 today. Completely blew up two holes, 4 putting one of them........... On the plus side, I had 3 pars and should have had 3 more. I swear putting was killing me today.. Oh well......... Just gonna keep trying.........
  2. I agree. Call 'em what you want, but the lofts of the second two are like a semi-strong 3 and a weak 5.
  3. I forgot to add, I also had those clubs gripped with Lambkin Crossline jumbo grips.
  4. I bought a set of Callaway Razr X irons (5-PW, SW). I only started playing last October and had been playing a set of cheap clubs I bought just to see if golf was really something I wanted to do. Since I am now hooked like a trophy bass, I decided to get a set of decent irons. I am definitely glad I did!
  5. Probably. If you go to Callaway's website, they list the following balls: Hex Black, Hex Chrome, HX Diablo Tour, HX Diablo, Solaire, Warbird Plus. There aren't any versions of the Tour i series balls on there. You can still get the Tour i(s) on Callaway Pre-owned though and they are listed as new.
  6. Congratulations!! I don't blame you for being psyched about that!! Sunday, I shot my best ever score, an even 100. That was a 53 on the front 9 and 47 on the back. Prior to then, I had always been in the high 50's on the front 9 and mid 50's on the back, so both were personal bests for me so far. I have set a goal of getting to where I am consistently shooting in the 90's this year. I realize the 90's is not really a good score but I also realize I will get frustrated and never start shooting good scores if I set unrealistic goals for my first year. I look forward to the day I can come on here and say I broke into the 80's..
  7. I don't carry one but my wife does. She had real problems getting any air under the ball, even off a tee. We recently got her a 13.5* driver, and the extra height fixed her distance on drives. Since she had the same problem multiplied off the deck with a 15* 3-wood, we got her a 17* 4-wood to replace it. She has been having real good luck with the 4..
  8. I shot 100 even today. My best game so far (I've only played about 12 rounds since I took the game up last October). It was also the first time my wife and I have played with another couple. I wasn't specifically keeping track but know I hit at least 50% of my fairways off the tee (that is being conservative, I only actually remember missing the short grass on 4). In another thread, I said I was going to be working this year on my short game and I have been. I've been hitting pitches and chips in the yard nearly every day. Today, the practice paid off. I have never had such good fortune chipping..
  9. Just bought 6 dozen Friday on that deal myself.
  10. Figures....... I am a moderator on a diesel truck website and we see this same kind of thing. I guess some folks don't realize what site admin can see "behind the scenes."
  11. I have been playing the Callaway HX Diablo ball exclusively. I bought that ball because it was supposed to be a decent distance ball (it is). My Dad uses the Gamer V2 and swears by them. He gave me a sleeve of them when we played together the weekend before Christmas. I threw in my bag with the thought that I would try them someday. Well, that someday was today.. I alternated holes with it and my Cally ball, just to be sure that any differences I noticed would not be because of the way I was playing. I found that I got just as much distance out of the Gamer V2 as the Cally ball but had better response/control with it off my irons/wedges and putter. Considering the performance I experienced and fact I can get the Gamer off of ebay for about half the price of the Cally ball, I now have a new favorite ball!
  12. When you buy from Callaway pre-owned, you are dealing with a part of Callaway Golf, not individual buyers. So, yes, they are reliable. They grade their clubs as "average", "good", "very good" and "like new". To be fair, I have not bought anything that was not at least in the "very good" category, so my experience is with the last two grades but those have been in excellent shape and several have not shown signs of ever having been used at all.. If you read their trade in policy, I don't think they will take a beat up club. Certainly, they are not going to give you anything in trade for it.
  13. You are constantly changing the story, the difficulty and the results. None of that makes it clear or possible for anyone to understand. I certainly hope you do a better job of explaining things to your students than you do here..........
  14. The definition of alter: al·ter /ˈôltər/ Verb: Change or cause to change in character or composition, typically in a comparatively small but significant way. Make structural changes to (a building). So the definition of alter is change. By inserting the definition into the quoted statement above, we have... "By the way, I am not proposing to change the rule, I am only opening the discussion, "Should the rule be changed?"" Do you see why everyone else is in agreement that you are proposing to change the rule? It's because you are!
  15. If you sign up for their email alerts, you can get some pretty good deals on http://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com. I got my wife a set of RAZR X irons (6i-PW) there for less than $400. I've bought several clubs through them and all have been in excellent shape, most not even looking like they have been used...
  16. Probably a stupid question here but aside from the odd ebay ad, I never see balls in anything less than a full dozen. Where can a guy purchase them by the sleeve?
  17. Yes, I golf with my wife. She had been trying for 12 years to get me to take it up. Now that I have, we play together every chance we get.
  18. I am new to golf but not new to sports.. In nearly every sport, your skill level will improve with practice. I remember a kid on our basketball team that technically speaking had horrible shot form. Nobody else could emulate his shot form and hit the backboard, let alone make baskets, yet this kid consistently made baskets from all over the floor. The reason was, he practiced A LOT! Your daughter practiced golf in one fashion or another 5 days a week for 4 years. Thus, while I will draw no inferences into your skill as a teacher, I am saying that her success is more likely a testament to her dedication to practice than to anything you may or may not have taught her...
  19. Several have done just that.....
  20. The croquet style maybe. Although I believe what was regulated there was the actually the position of address (not allowing one to straddle the ball/line of putt).. The pool cue no. The rules define what a proper stroke is and jabbing the ball with the handle of your club does not meet that definition..
  21. I have read various reasons for why they should be banned, ranging from "it's not a proper stroke", to it's ugly, to it isn't in keeping with the traditions of the game and on to it's an advantage. Of the reasons I listed, I believe the one with the least credence is about tradition. I own the set of clubs my Grandfather played with. The heads of the woods are persimmon. If tradition is paramount, shouldn't the USGA also ban metal woods? If not, why not? Tradition would dictate that woods should be made of wood, as the name implies. Yet I do not see a move afoot to require a return to persimmon. The only definition I have seen of a "proper stroke" is that the club must be drawn back and swung forward to strike the ball. I believe the back and forward motion is still required in order to use a long putter, so by definition, the method of use for long putters does meet the criteria of a "proper stroke". The issue of advantage is a real slippery slope. Does someone using a 460cc driver have an advantage over someone using a "traditional" persimmon driver? I think so. What about "game improvement" irons? Should game improvement irons be allowed? Do they not give an advantage (over using blades) to a less skilled player? That set of clubs my Grandfather used were all hickory shafted. Don't modern, graphite/flighted shafts give an advantage over hickory? Now, I am not advocating that we go back to the 1930's (or beyond). I am merely pointing out that there have been many technological advancements in golf clubs (not to mention golf balls) that have given us advantages which were not available to previous generations. Most of us own clubs with at least some of those advancements. So it really boils down to whether that advantage is obtained fairly or not. Virtually every sport creates rules designed to keep the game fair. Since all of the advantages mentioned here (and including long putters) are legal for use by anyone that so chooses, they do not provide an unfair advantage and should that not be the real criteria? The issue of ugliness is more ambiguous. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So to me, it seems this argument is just another iteration of an age old problem, resistance to change.
  22. Having only 8 rounds of golf under my belt, I am looking to improve everywhere but in terms of scoring, my goals are getting below 100 consistently (currently, my best round is 110). To get there, I believe what I need to do is improve my short game and especially putting.. (That 110 would've likely been in the high 90's if I could putt worth a darn).
  23. I saw them today at GG. I thought it was very cool looking in much the same way the new Mustangs and Challengers do (old school look but full of modern tech.). The guy at GG said the gold stuff was paint and it was still up in the air as to how well that paint is going to hold up.. As a result, I am not interested in playing one. Since I am not flush enough to buy a $300 driver to have a conversation piece, I will have to pass on it...
  24. Hello everyone! I just started playing golf last fall (at the age of 51). Certainly not any good at the game but having fun nonetheless. I am hoping to learn a few things by hanging out here...
