  1. This is exactly what i was going to recommend. I second the suggestion!! and great job lowing from 114 to 94. Keep it up.
  2. Sounds to me like you need better balance. I can swing my driver upwards of club-head speeds around 120 mph and a 320+ yard drive is not out of the question; in my regular shoes on a mat have no problem with slippage. While i recommend golf shoes on the range (if you wear them on the course) so that you have a similar height and feel to your shot, it is not needed on a mat for grip if you have proper balance and weight shift during your swing. Side note: Probably around 7 years ago a pro at a golf course was taping my swing to show one of his other students who had told him "you can't swing hard and keep your balance", when we played back the video in slow motion, at the point of contact my feet were off the ground...it was weird to see. I have since slowed my swing a little for control, but increased distance due to better contact (and probably better tech in the clubs).
  3. I was playing a round at Seascape GC in CA this weekend and had been hitting my driver pretty well all day. Came up to the 12th hole (a par 5) and decided to really lay into one... This hole had an elevated tee shot down into a narrow valley (treed hill on left, natural grass up to a fence then houses OB on the right). I hit the ball and it takes off down the center of the fairway...for about 2 sec. Then major slice up into the houses (probably about 50 yrds right: at least). The guys i was playing with started to laugh and said "wait for roof" and listened for contact. Bang! Well thats OB, but i call a provisional anyways and hit another one right down the center. We head down to our next shots and low and behold, there is my first ball sitting in the middle of the fairway, in front of everybody else i was playing with. So not only did my ball hit the house OB and bounce back in, but i still had longest drive on the hole and only a 4i to reach the green.
  4. MackJL06, no Disrespect intended. I have never played hockey myself. I picked it because they don't have to be able to run fast, throw hard, or or jump high (as people seem to think are the only things that make people athletic). I was trying to us it as an example that may compare to golf of alternate sports.
  5. That is a very useful link. Thank you.
  6. Driver: Control shot: 240-260 full smooth swing: 275-290 all out: 290-340 3-wood: 250 2i:215 3i:205 4i: 195 5i: 185 6i: 175 7i: 165 8i: 155 9i: 145 pw: 130 52*: 110 62*: 70 These are my full smooth swing distances, but as of late i have been utilizing the punch shot more and more often for control. My theory is select the club i would normally hit with a full smooth swing, then drop 3 and punch it. Has worked pretty well. (do keep in mind when/if trying this that when you punch it wind will not effect it as munch as would the full swing so into the wind i typically only drop 2).
  7. Nobody ever said they wanted more adjustability...we wanted to know exactly what the effect of club set up was for each notch since it was not abundantly clear in the original documentation provided with the equipment.. P.S. I hit the R11, and it goes consistently shorter that they RBZ (at least for me) by about 10 yards. I am curious though - once you got the club set up the way you liked it, how often do you change the setting on the R11?
  8. Dictionary.com: Sport - an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Sounds like golf to me... The main argument i hear from people is how "out of shape" some of the golfers are, or that old people can still play. I have taken people to the driving range that are gym junkies and by the next morning they are complaining that they are sore in spots that they didn't know they had. Golf may not require you to be a body builder, but it does take a lot of body control, muscle memory, endurance, and hand eye coordination to play well. I would like to see some of these people even try to swing the club hard enough to generate the club head speed attained by these so called out of shape people and if they can even get to 80% of this power, can they hit the ball at the same time? Then do it over and over again.... Baseball is a sport right? Nobody argues that....DH hitters (has to bat what 4-5 times a game) ? Relief pitchers (1-2 innings they they are spent) ? Heck even regular pitchers have a pitch count limit around 115 until they get 5 days off. Hockey goalies stand there blocking a net barely bigger than their pads. What is their skill? endurance to stand there the whole time, reflexes, and hand eye coordination (sound familiar?) do i really need to keep going?....
  9. Sales Manager for TEMCo - an Electrical Power Conversion Equipment supplier. In other words i can help you get a different voltage, phase or frequency to power the equipment in your building if it is different than your utility supplier offers. We also sell electric motors, capacitors, magnet wire, motor starters and other such items in our industry. My side job is taking money off people i know out on the golf course.
  10. I totally agree. When i really want to crush the ball i always tell myself to "swing for right field". Same thing your saying...
  11. I used to have this problem as well. I would have to aim as far to the left as possible without being in trouble if I accidentally hit it straight. That was back when I was a 20 handicap. Since then I have dropped to a 5 (would be lower if i could putt). What i have done is a combination of a few easy things i suggest trying 1 at a time and in varying degrees before combining them as you don't want to go from 1 extreme to another. 1) Option 1: Take your normal stance and address the ball. Now take your front foot (nearest the target) and move it forward (towards the ball). Take your normal swing. This will feel awkward, but it helps to influence a Draw and therefore will lessen the slice. 2) Option 2: Grip the Club as normal and address the ball. Now take your lower hand and roll it away from your target so your palm faces up to the sky. This will make you flip your wrists more and encourage a draw, again will help lessen a slice. 3) Option 3: Take your normal stance. Now take a small step back away from the ball (0.5" -1" at a time). Swing normal. Moving back will hopefully cause you to hit the ball a little more on the Toe of the club with should draw the ball. (it will also allow you to fully extend your arms and may gain you some distance). 4) Option 4: If in your normal stance, while at address, there is an angel between your arms and the shaft of the club (i.e. your arms are more pointed to the ground while the shaft of the club is pointed at the ball) try raising your arms so that your arms and the shaft are in a straighter line pointing down to the ball. This should help create a draw. 5) Option 5: My last suggestion is only if you can't manage to do it any other way, but you can always purchase a club that has a closed face. I am against this because it makes it difficult to switch clubs later, or if you do end up fixing your swing the club will become just as big a problem creating a hook. Using a small combination of these tips has made me move to a club that is actually 2* open and hitting it further than most people i play with. Hopefully one of these (or a combination) tips will help straighten out your ball flight as well. Good luck. see you at the 19th hole.
  12. I recently purchased the TaylorMade RBZ driver and while it advertises 8 settings for lie, loft, and face angle with the shaft, only 4 of them are labeled. I have been looking around online and cannot find anywhere that gives a breakdown on what each setting specifically does. I would prefer not to have to just experiment with each one. Is there anybody that either knows what each setting is, or a site online that shows this? This would be very appreciated. Thank you. Current set up is: 9* Tour head, with X-Stiff Matrix Ozik HD6 shaft set at "Lower -1.5*" (for the one that is labeled at least). Drew
