  1. I have 2 sets: 1) Z Model 2's (Ping Zing 2 Knockoffs).....it's the set I played with in college 2) Ping G 5's ...I used the G5's, and can't get rid of the Z Model for sentimental reasons. My wife can't understand holding onto something I don't ever use. I between, I played a set of Ben Hogan CFT's.....I sold those to a pal of mine who hits them MUCH better than I ever did.
  2. It probably has as much to do with the mental aspect as anything, but I purchased a 58* a year or so ago, and I am MUCH more consistant with it than I ever was with the 60*. Anytime I'm in that 50-70 yard area, I don't hesitate to grab the 58*.....I tended to skull the 60.
  3. I've had a couple of irons re-shafted after I've snapped or bent the originals. I think as long as the person doing the re-shafing knows what they're doing, the performance should be as good, if not better. In a sort-of-related note, A pal of mine had his x-18's reshafted because he didn't like the feel of the "uniflex" steel that Callaway's come with. He's hitting them better than ever now.
  4. Merry Christmas! It seems you have a bit of a Callaway fetish, doesn't it? I would recommend steel in the hybrids. I tend to beat the snot out of my rescue clubs, and I think that the durability of steel is preferable over what graphite has to offer.
  5. After hitting dozens of drivers, I settled on the D1 a month or so ago. I used to have a huge problem with slicin the ball, and have tried just about all of the "correction" drivers (R7, Burner Draw, ect), and the D1 seemed to be the best at keeping my shots straight. I've been pretty happy with it, and the price has come down a bit since it was introduced.
  6. I'll echo what Island Par has mentioned. I have been thrilled with the Rescue Dual. It produces a very neutral ball flight. It's also great off the tee if you are on a short or tight par 4. My only complaint would be that it does tend to produce a pretty high ball flight in comparison to the other hybrids I've demoed in the past, so if you play in pretty windy conditions, it may not be ideal for you.
  7. I made the switch to the Ping G5's when they came out.....I absolutely love them. The only complaint I would have is the fact that they do have a built in "high launch" that can make hitting a low "stinger" pretty difficult.
  8. Hi Folks, I'm pretty new to this site, so forgive me if this has been asked before: After smacking nearly every driver on the market, I've become the proud new owner of a Titleist 907 D1. I'm really enjoying consistency with the driver for the first time, probably in large part due to the fact that I got fitted for the right shaft. My question is: Does a driver lose distance and/or performance over time? With thinner faces and lighter shaft materials, will a diver lose it's "pop" after I've played with it for a while? I can imaine that a shaft can lose some of it's torque after time but would the entire face of the driver likewise lose the "trampoline effect" after a couple of years?
  9. I think that at this stage in the game (with an 18 handicap), you would probably want to stick with the game improvement technology that the X18 has, and not try to move to a players iron just yet. Don't take it that I'm ragging on your game......I'm right there with you. The G5's that I play also have a "High Launch" tendency, and I had to adjust my swing and ball position a good bit when I wanted to hit a low screamer instead of a regular shot....much more-so than I had to do with the Ben Hogans that I played prior to the G5 purchase.
  10. I hope this doesn't come across sounding like a "Tiger Hater", but I don't think this is a record he could break. There are times where it seems that Tiger enters tournaments with the focus being on fine tuning his game for an upcoming major more-so than going for the throat every weekend. As he gets closer to Jacks record of 18 majors, I think we'll see less and less of Tiger in the "regular tournaments"....and when he DOES play, he'll be playing against a stronger field in the majors than anything Nelson played against.
  11. I reall like the Nike Mojo...but they're kind of hard to find. I don't know if they make them any more. I'll echo the sentiments about the D2, however. It really is a pretty good ball for not a lot of coin.
  12. How interesting! I literally have spent the last month hitting every driver under the sun to determine which one I thought would be the best fit for me. My final three came down to the Burner Draw, Titleist D1, and the Ping Rapture. I initially had my heart set on the Ping, but I couldn't justify the extra $100 or so for a driver that seemed to perform (forgiveness and distance-wise) the same as drivers that were around $300. In my opinion, the Titleist was the easiest to keep in the fairway.....which is ultimately what my main goal was. I'm not exceptionally long off of the tee (averaging around 250 or so on a good day), so the staight ball flight that the Titleist gave me was more important than launching it 20 yards deeper into the woods.
  13. Sweetwater 420 They're hard to find sometimes outside of Georgia, but if you're a fan of IPA, it's my personal favorite.
  14. I love how the SQ feels, but MAN is the sound annoying! It's a little too "tinny" for me.
  15. I'm kind of a gear junkie, and enjoy going to the local PGA Superstore just to smack the irons and blow off steam at lunch. I hit the Burner irons, and I wasn't horribly impressed. I'll admit, of course, it's hard to judge an iron's total perfomance off of a 6 iron hit a few times off of astroturf.
  16. The first set of irons I ever owned were the Ping Zing 2's.....Bought for me by my folks as a high school graduation present. I hacked up courses all over the southeast with those things, and they still look brand new. I guess I missed the Eye 2s......They're obviously the overwhelming choice of Pings here. What made them so special?
