  1. As far as I know, it's standard length with a stiff shaft. Last time it was measured, my swing speed was in the 95-105 range.
  2. Releasing the wrist cock too early makes sense now that I look at it. However, today I practiced holding on to that angle longer and then took another video. I definitely hold onto the angle longer, but the final two frames look almost the same as yesterday. Holding on to the wrist angle that long also makes me feel as if I am going to swipe the ball from the side with the face wide open. I have not hit any balls with this swing yet, so I am just going by what it feels like.
  3. Decided to video tape my golf swing just to see what it looks like and discovered what looks like massive deceleration about a third of the way down from the top. Here is the full swing: And here are the 4 telling frames from the video: After seeing this, I went out and consciously tried to accelerate more slowly from the top and still ended up looking the same. My driving for the past couple months has been sporadic at best and if this is not an optical illusion could explain alot. How do I correct this, this just looks so wrong!!!!
  4. I was introduced to the game of golf almost 2 years ago at the age of 31. Since then I've played more than 250 rounds of golf.
  5. I have a set of Adams by Tom Watson that I've used for about a year. I just recently replaced the 60 degree in that set with a 58 degree Titleist Vokey Spin Milled wedge that I am expecting to preform magic with on the close shots.
  6. I've always gotten an annual membership at a public course because I break even on equivalent green fees if I play more than once per week on average. For instance, to play at the nicest 18 hole course in the Newton, KS area is $39 on weekdays and $49 on weekends. The annual membership is $1650 which if you divide by 44 (average of 39 and 49) comes to the cost of 38 rounds. I easily play 100 rounds per year, so a membership is the best deal for me.
  7. Of the 250+ rounds I've played over the last 20 months, I'd say about 50% of my rounds were solo rounds. It's a good time to experiment, and it can allow you to focus more on your game.
  8. Play with my kids more Work more diligently (make more money) Practice and/or play golf 4X per week (weather permitting) Play in at least two amateur golf tournaments Lower my handicap into single digits
  9. 33, started playing less than 2 years ago.
  10. I played for several weeks this fall without taking my driver out of the bag. It really depends on the length of the course and the obstacles whether it is advisable though. The course I was playing is relatively short, so I had no problem reaching greens in regulation, it was just a matter of using a mid iron instead of a wedge for my approach shot. The course that I played my most recent golf round at is significantly longer with few trees on the side of the fairway, so using a driver was necessary to reach the green in regulation on most of the par 5s and a couple of the 4s. Now if you are not hitting your diver well at all, then the extra shot you are taking to get to the green using only irons may still be the smartest choice if your driver is going to cost you more shots.
  11. My main "technical" problem prior to this book was blocking, or not releasing through the ball. Visualizing a throwing motion and throwing At the Target has all but corrected that. The second thing and probably more importantly in the long run is the mental or emotional reaction to consecutive mishits. Previously, when my focus was on the scorecard and I hit 2 or more consecutive mishits, I was boiling which tended to help create more mishits. Now I have learned to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, conversation with friends or new acquaintances, or just be grateful to be out for some exercise and sunshine. Being able to play each shot without the baggage of the previous shot has made the whole experience much more enjoyable. Having only finished reading the book for the second time last week, and the first time about 3 weeks ago, I don't have dozens of rounds to bear witness that these are lasting changes, but for the rounds that I have been able to play, not only did I enjoy the outings more, but I hitting the ball much more freely and longer consequently.
  12. And there it is: THE TARGET, that should be the focus of every golf swing, NOT THE BALL. As long as the ball is the target and the mechanics of the swing are cluttering your mind, you will never hit the ball consistently. Sure, it's great to be able to analyze the mechanics of great ball strikers with our modern high speed video cameras, but that is not the way to teach a good golf swing. If you have not read it already, the book Extraordinary Golf by Fred Shoemaker has made a world of difference in how I think about the golf swing and the results are phenomenal.
  13. Hmm, weird, I could have sworn I posted on here yesterday evening. Anyway, until playing golf pays the bills, I work as an ecommerce developer, helping small business owners sell their products and services online.
