  1. Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I had a great round going (4 over after 9) and at the turn the guy whom I was with, his son-in-law showed up. Talked like you wouldn't believe. I let it get to me pretty good and blew a potentially momentus round. What I took from it was, I have a plan of action with my game, others don't. My game isn't about making friends. There will be a next time and I will definitely say something. They treat the golf course worse than the driving range. Personally, I would rather play by myself. I played yesterday with a couple guys I go to church with. Neither of them broke 100, but their attitude and level of respect for my game, and each others, was very "professional". I've heard it said that if you want to get better at golf then play with people who are better than you. The flaw in this thought is, if you want to get better - practice. I shot an 87 and I'm sure somewhere between the first tee shot to the last put my "game" was an encouragement to these guys. Back in February I started playing again after 20 years off. I would play with guys I work with. I don't play with these guys anymore for a variety of reasons, mainly, these just don't care and I do. It's a tough senario but we all have to deal with it. Better luck next time
  2. I look forward to being able to utilize all this knowledge of quadrants, ball flight laws, and other stuff like that. It would stand to reason that before any of this stuff gets applied one would have to have a consistent swing. Personally, I like all the science kind of stuff related to golf. I've said and I've heard quite often about the amount of "luck" involved with golf, but isn't all the "luck" just really a very complex matrix of timing, angles, velocities, and other variables?
  3. I know I've had a few "tin cup" holes, A few weeks ago I gave a water hazard 5 balls of the tee and carded a 13 on that hole. My question is, when playing a round, at what point do you quit putting balls in the water and go drop one?
  4. Shot an 87. Had 4 penalty strokes and choked on a few approach shots. I can deal with penalties, but setting yourself up with a great drive to just turn right around a flub your 90 yd and in approach shots to the green is absolutely unacceptable. I know what I need to practice on .....
  5. I usually play in the morning, so, breakfast comes about 30 minutes before the round. At the turn I usually have a chicken salad sandwich or PB&J;, but I always have a small bag of almonds and a protein bar or 2. If I'm playing in the afternoon (90+ degrees) I bring a cooler with about 8 bottles of water, some wet towels and all on ice.
  6. At the courses in my town sleeveless shirts, beer drinkin, and yelling at your playing partners are pretty much the norm......hooray for southest Oklahoma...
  7. What is the difference in the D2, D3, and the F?
  8. I grew up in Atlanta, GA. In the 80's my dad joined Druid Hills, a private club where you had to "sponsored" in. That's where I learned to play golf. I loved the private club atmosphere. These days I play anywhere I can, mostly public courses that can't afford to really keep up the course. It's a real treat when I can go play a better maintained public course. There is a private club about 30 miles south of where I live and my wife has said the next raise I get we can join !!!!! I would prefer a private course, even though I've played a few pretty well maintained public courses.
  9. I heard Ricky Fowler once say the issue of gripping down so I tried it. Honestly, I'm still working some things out in my swing to notice......but I have heard it from other places as well.
  10. I'm glad this was brought up. I've devoted this year to getting my game in order. Next year I plan to join it, by that time I will have been able to look at which tournaments I want to play in and how much it will cost for practice round, travel, and entry fees.
  11. You could have her come with you when you are not playing with others and constantly talk to you about hair styles, shoes, make-up and other woman stuff. That way you can get a stronger mental focus on your game.....
  12. I broke 40 last week for the first time too on a course rated much the same. It DOES feel good. What a confidence booster. Way to go....
  13. Played at the Hugo Golf Club - white tees - 117/34.4 - Scored a painful 47. I'm not real concerned with the score today. This has been a tough week, physically speaking. Between working in 95* heat everyday (8 hrs.), playing drums at a 2 hour band practice on Tuesday night, playing drums for an hour on Wednesday night (Church), work outs on days off and only practicing twice this week I was really just wanting to swing a few clubs to get stretched out. Had 3 bad holes. Wasn't real comfortable over the putter. Left several putts short. I'm gonna play tomorrow (18) I believe I'll have a much better score. I love this game
  14. I had an instructor tell me the exact same drill. His purpose was to help me feel my weight on the instep of my right foot. I still use this drill. Excellent drill !
  15. At the driving range I go to the farthest distance sign is 250 yards. I use this sign as my aim point. Whenever I hit my driver straight at it, 9 out of 10 times I will carry the full 250. I usually have to guess what the distance is off the tee. There has been a couple times where, off the furthest back tee spot, I have ended up on the green. The scorecard says 330yds. When I ask if the distances are correct I get told yes. I'm sure, because the ground is so very hard, I get a lot of roll. I think I really drive the ball, on the carry, 250-275. Truth be known, I prefer accuracy.
  16. I would like to say "yes", but I know I'm very inconsistent right now. I played last Friday and the only thing I really kept thinking was " I can make this shot". Shot a 39 on the front 9. Best I've ever scored on 9. I'm really hard on myself a lot of times and I'm beginning to think all the "grinding" mentally is causing over thinking therefore resulting in an inconsistent swing. I practice more than I play and when I play, I do my best to put into play what I practice. Even if I have to tell myself, "this is just the backyard" or something like that.
  17. I do the same thing. Had a problem at one point with my weight shifting to the right side too much and not being able to get it back, causing a slice
  18. I completely understand. Just recently I've noticed they don't fit the same across the thumb.
  19. Hello friend. If your shooting from 95-105 your handicap is probably anywhere from 25 to a 35. If your home course is affiliated with GHIN (Golf Handicap Index Network), or if the state you live in has a golf association, then you can get in touch with them to start posting scores to get an official handicap. You will probably have to pay a fee but it won't be too much. Basically, your "handicap" is about what you would shoot off par. I shoot anywhere from 87-93 and my handicap is a 20.4 (through GHIN). This is also an official USGA handicap. Up until about 5 months ago, I might have played 15 times in 20 years. Back in February something just kinda ignited in me and I played probably 20-25 times. I try to get out at least once a week and play 18 and practice at least 3-5 days for a minimum 1 hour. I've dropped 6 points off my handicap in these past few months. Yes, I'm a golf "freak". Look forward to seeing your video....
  20. This next week I'm gonna take my camera to a different spot and take a few more shots. Hopefully someone has some helpful tips. Thanks
  21. Lionel Richie w/ Tina Turner opening. I think it was 83 or 84.

    Pet Peeves

I'm guessin' these kids aren't a part of any "First Tee" program........
  23. I heard somewhere that the straight shot is the hardest in golf.....
