Reshafting steel shafts is simple but practice on a old cheap set of clubs once first. Heat the head so you can pull the shaft out. (this loosens the epoxy) pull the shaft out and clean the inside of the hosel out with a wire brush, (golfworks 10 bucks for 2) then you have to tip trim the new shaft to flex, prep the tip and epoxy it in! dont forget the ferrule cus you cant add it later. Wait for the epoxy to dry and cut to finish length. add a grip and your done. Once yoru hooked you can get into swing weighting and all the other bs that goes with it then it gets expensinve lol!

Its funny when chops play blades.

wow this has truned into a hornets nest!!! Ok my 2 cents if a guys swing is that bad he is prob new to the game. If he is new to the game GI irons are the way to go IMO. At the end of the day why do you play golf? CUs its fun! how much fun is it when you cant get the ball into the air ever? Newbie becomes frustrated and quits game. Now if he had some forgiving GI he gets to feel some sucess earlier, works harder, decides to switch to a players club to help improve and be able to work the ball - now you have a golf junkie. I started playing the game 4 years ago with a set of TM oS, the forgivness was great and I built a lot of confidence. I got addicted, now I play a forged Muscle back. Why did I switch? Cus I was confident I could hit any club and I wanted to be able to work the ball a little more. I understand that blades were all you could get years ago, but I dont see anyone advocating persimon woods for the beginner? Isnt that along the same line of thought? -

I kinda know what you are saying. I was at the driving range a while ago and there was this guy who had all new clubs Clevlands if I rember, Driver woods Irons all brand new, Clevland staff bag, and everytime he would swing it looked like he was dry heaving, All I could think was buy a used set get some lessons then decide what fits your game. -
You dont have to swing weight if you dont want, Some people think swing weighting is way over hyped, first time i built a set I did not swing weight. Now I want to know they are perfect in every way. I weight sort componants spine alligne all shafts a(flo) swing weight and lie check, When I hit a bad shot it is me, no more excuesses lol. For me it was adictive I love golf and i love to tinker with my equipment, once I learned how to do it i was hooked.

Oh chad one last tip for ya, buy some shafting beeds. The are cheap and a jar will last forever! mix a small amount in with your epoxy and you will be assured of a centered shaft.

Hey chad I hate to wait a full day too try out a new club too!!!! I keep some tour set epoxy on hand with an hour cure time just for such ocasion. You can epoxy it and grip it and be at the range in about 2 hours!!!! But for most jobs I use the good old 24 hour stuff

Girlfriend....keep teaching or send her to a pro?
wigolffan replied to crissmillputters's topic in Golf Talk
I tought my wife how to golf a few years ago, or should sy tried too, almost ruined my marage lmao, send her to a pro!!!!!! She thought I was to critical, I could not figure out why I had to tell her the same stuff all the time. I finaly relized it was time for a pro when I was standing behind her trying to help her take away and she took a full swing and cracked me in the skull with a 7 wood. Too my credit I did not yell or cry all I said was wow that was a lousy Fin swing -
Chad and the other gentelman you never told us how you liked your self built clubs? I am curious to find out.

Is 1/2° difference that much on a driver?
wigolffan replied to ERC7.5's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Lets make sure we are not confusing Knock off with componant, Componants are made by ligit companies liker golf works and golf smith they have their own designs, but you may not recognize the name like Maltby or snake eyes, a Knock off is made to look like a Taylormade or Calloway but most often is of a lower quality. In my opinion componants are awsome sometimes out performing the OEM stuff, my experience with knock offs is for the most part they are junk. -
GPS - Skycaddie or Golflogix
wigolffan replied to Bruce-YVR's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
at the time I was looking at them they both had a yearly subscription, The both had the majority of courses maped. The price was about the same for an sg3 skycaddie and the golf logix but i think golf logix has droped. Sky caddie is mapped courses by hand, Golf logix does it from a satilite photo, sky caddie has the mark distance shot so you know how far (or short) your shot went, sky caddie has inteligreen, golflogix does not, if by chance your course is not on skycaddie you can map it yourself, you can not do that with golflogix. SO in my mind the winner was hands down skycaddie. I got my SG3 on ebay new in box for around 220. not sure what the prices are now as it was about 6 months ago I did my reserch. -
ATTN Skycaddie users: I'm terribly confused
wigolffan replied to SwinginCaveman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You get all the courses in your state, or you can buy the entire country for I think 10 bucks more. The fee is for an intire year less then the cost of a dozen good balls so its not a big deal. the playlists are just ment to make it easier to manage the courses that you play often. I have one playlist set up with all the municipal courses that I play in the area and another one with all the private courses I play in the area. so if I am going to go to a private course I just conect and put that playlist in. Playlist are more of a convinance thing that is all. If I am going to a new course I just move it onto a playlist and load it up. Dont worry the skycaddie only holds 10 courses at a time but depending on what membership you pick you have access to all the courses in your state or in the country. -

Be aware also that the best of companies accept a 1 degree variation on there heads so your 8degree mabe only 7 or it could be as high as 9. Who knows what standard your knockoff is held to it could be anything. If you want to know the true loft you can check it with some devices, prob just easier to take it to your pro shop they should have the tools to check the actual loft for you. -
I hate to do this cus I am kinda pissed at golfworks for doing this but you can go to their site golfworks.com pick a head shaft and grip total the cost and they will put it together for 10bucks. As a club builder I think it kinda screws us when dealing with people but the M series wedges are sweet. forged and great feel. I use the Blacks wich are 24 bucks for the head I use True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shafts(about 10 bucks) and golf pride tour velvet grips 2.80 so your looking at 37 bucks for the parts 47 bucks for the wedge assembled, its a steal.

question about old clubs
wigolffan replied to speedymcfunland's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I hate to disagree with the guys above me but it bothers me when people say that. Why if you want to learn the game would you make a hard sport harder by using outdated less forginving equipment? I am not saying buy 1100 dollar set of clubs but a used set of recent irons and last years driver model all told could run you what mabe 400 bucks? money well spent if you ask me. I have seen many people try to learn the game with old sets of clubs and most of them just give up on the game. -
Do you use a rangefinder?
wigolffan replied to StrayCat's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
When I am paying to play a nice course that I have not played before I dont want to spend that 160 bucks to learn its idio sencrecies (wow I cant spell sorry) The game is challenging enough on a good course. Some places they have caddies for you but now your talking close to another 100 bucks with tip. Also my sky caddie speeds play, I dont pace off from a sprinkler head, I dont just guess I am 20 yards behind the 150 and hit the wrong club cus I am 35 yards behind. I walk to my ball look at the sky caddie, take wind and elevation into acount, look for trouble spots I want to avoid and grab a club and swing. -
Vokey Spin Milled Swing Weight Issue
wigolffan replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Larvell sorry to make you angery with information. You asked I told you. The fact of the matter is that 2 grams equals one SW grab a club that is D6 and one that is D2 you will be able to tell the diffrence and that is only 8 grams, A pro who makes his living playing golf can not tell one SW diffrence but 2 he can at least thats what I read in golf digest a few years back. By the way have you ever seen a pro pull a club out with a clump of dirt on it? No they clean them off after every shot so it wont effect SW. -
WOW 44 degree pitching wedge? that is a strong loft! Game imrovment clubs have gotten streonger over the years so we can all say I hit the same iron into that green as a pro!!!! when in actuality there is a club if not more diffrence between Game improvment Irons and Muscle backs or blades. I just started using a set of Muscle backs and the PW is 47 9 iron is 44 I cant say I hit my 9 iron 150 anymore but I also dont need a gap wedge anymore. Why not go to a 50 and a 58 wedge to help close the gaps?

Vokey Spin Milled Swing Weight Issue
wigolffan replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
2 grams of head weight equals one swing weight. a difrence of one swing weight is not noticible to even tour pros but your talking about 3 or 4 sw wow!!! I build clubs as a hobby and kind of a side business and make all of mine within 1 swing weight of eachoter, wedges are heavier on the SW scale for better feel you are correct. rember if you have a super heavy grip that will lighten the SW as well. If I rember corectly its 1 sw lighter for every 5 grams of butt weight. -
Ok I live in wisconsin and we are about to get 8 more inches of snow on friday. SO my question is I have a few days off next week how far south do I have to go to find open courses? anyone in Ill with open courses around ya? I dont need to play a great course I just need to play!!!!!!

Is it the equipment or the athletes?
wigolffan replied to SwinginCaveman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
the comparison between the TP Mb and the r7 is flawed his five iron is actuly a 4 iron if you look at the lofts and your 5 iron plays like a 6 iron in his set. The game improvment clubs have been getting stronger lofts so people can say they hit the same club as the pros into that green. The fact is they cant, the pros clubs are way higher loft, that being said I worked at the GMO for a few years and I can tell you the irons they tell you on TV are often not the irons they are hitting. -
You have got to be kidding me. I consider myself a lower handi and I play golfworks maltby MMB irons, with Black gold shafts, I also use a push cart. OMG I must suck cus my irons dont say Taylormade! I also must be cheating cus if tiger could use a push cart he would be so much better!!! Oh wait Tiger has a caddie and I dont. humm real advantige for the push carts.

Any club can be bent. That being said I would never do it for you because there is a big chance that it will break. The previous poster is almost right, they can be bent but it is very touchy. I know that you can buy a ferrual with a shim built in for TM drivers and woods but they are .350 tip diamater were I think all the Titlest stuff is .335 not sure might be worth asking golfworks or golfsmith if they have somthing for Titlest

The point of the article was that no matter if it was sitting out for a short time or a long time all used golf balls showed some negative affects, for the most part referbished just means they painted them. And god forbid it should have been sitting in a watter hazard. But I will be honest 8 bucks a dozen is a good prize. If I was new to the game I would go for it. I dont know your skill level so it may or may not be worth it to you to have new. When I started I lost a ton of balls used balls were awsome then, now I mabe lose 1 or 2 around so a dozen can last a while.
