Any idea when they might upgrade the 3 wood 915? -
Ping I20 vs. Titleist 714 AP1 vs. TItleist 714 AP2
mtnbiker5 replied to RFKFREAK's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had the 712 Ap2 and recently upgraded to the new 714 AP2. Totally different club. The I20 I also was on the fence on. I went with the AP2 because for me it was a much more forgiving club. All I can say is see if you can demo both on Trackman or on an outdoor range even better. You want to see the ball flight and what its doing. Now is the perfect time to be fitted. You never want to be fitted in early spring. If you play alot do it now while your swing is still in "mid season form." Trust me. You dont want to be fitted for new clubs early spring when you havent really been playing. The new AP2's are solid. I'm still trying to put down a review of the differences between the old and new models. Need more time. The weight is different on the 714's. Seems much lighter and balanced well. Solid ball strike. I love the new clubs. -

Perfect thanks.

Looking to get a new travel bag for my clubs. Heading down to DR in a few weeks. Any feedback? Sunmountain looks like they have a nice setup but I think close to 20lbs, little heavy. Titleist? Thanks.

Is the Golf Equipment Business one big scam?
mtnbiker5 replied to Rick Martin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Great thread here. The manufacturers need to move product every year. They come out with the "latest and greatest" every year. They make you think that by buying THIS years new technology you'll play better than last years technology. How else are they supposed to move products? Yet, when you look at who the club champion is or the person you just got paired up with who shoots a 65, I bet they don't have the latest and greatest. Does new technology work? Perhaps. In the end it comes down to the player. Same thing with skiing, tennis, etc. Every year the ski companies come out with the newest skis that will make turning easier, better than last year! How else are they supposed to move products? My opinion, just find clubs you like whether you pick them up on eBay, last years models, whatever. It ultimately comes down to the players. -
I think Shooter's points are accurate. I have a good friend who works at Golf Galaxy. Once these hit the shelves I'm gonna pick these apart with Trackman. As I mentioned earlier, I get it, the manufacturers need to do everything they can every year to move product. I'm not saying these clubs don't "work," I'm just saying I really want to sink my teeth into these this year and just compare apples to apples. Something doesnt smell right...

You guys are dead on with this. Nice. To say I was pulling the ball is an understatement. I never pulled my shots with my old Callaways. End of last season it got to the point where if I were around 215/220 away from the green, grabbed the hybrid to land on in 2, I was nervous. I think some serious re evaluation needs to be done on these clubs. I'm not disputing the extra distance when you really hit the ball square but the whole issue with pulling, ease off fairway, I'm not sold anymore. I would happy going back to Callaway or even just get a Ping/Adams/Titleist hybrid/3 wood and stick it on the green in 2 any time. I dont need this aggrevation. Golf can be hard enough. Ahhhhhhhh!
-
I'll check that out. I knew there was something up. When I bought these clubs, I think it was back in July, the guy was telling me the Tour versions were easier to hit off the fairways. After a couple of rounds with them I wasnt hitting them as solid as my old Callaway 3 wood and hybrid. Yes, WHEN you hit these clubs the ball does appear to at least roll farther but the consistancy at least for me wasnt as good with the Callaways I had. I'm not giving up on these. Definately going to check out the new Stage 2's in Feb when they hit the shelves. Worst case I just trade in my RBZ from last season and just go with the regular Stage 2's over the Tour versions. I had a couple of friends hit these as well and everyone said the same thing. Not the easiest to hit off the fairways and the 3 wood has a wicked draw.
-
Yeah thanks I saw that. I guess I have to wait until Feb to just demo these new clubs to see what the ball does. Its actually pretty funny the things sport manufacturers do every year to try to sell their products. Whether its golf, skiing, tennis. Amazing...

I've been reading up on the new Taylor Made Stage 2's coming out specifically the 3 wood & hybrids. I dont doubt they've figured out a way to gain additional yds however I find my RB's hybrids Tour clubs I bought last summer not all that "easy" to hit. I almost am thinking of going back to a Callaway. Has anyone else found this? I think they said the new Stage 2's are going to be easier off the fairways than the RB's now? Maybe I should demo the regulars and not the Tour versions? Just curious.

Go with the ones that are right for you. I went through this process not too long ago. Ended up with the Ap2's but only because out of all the clubs I tried these were the ones for me. Everyone has a different feel for clubs. Every manufacturer wants to sell you the latest and greatest technology that they have to offer. They have to. Their trying to move product. Just find a set that you and only you really like and pull the trigger.

What's more important? Fitted putter or driver?
mtnbiker5 replied to Greg15's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Go with a fitted driver. I know so many people that play with very old putters and drain the putts almost every time. Putters are probably the most personal club in the bag. The old Billy Baru! I'd say find your niche, hit a bunch and narrow down to what feels right for you. You might be surprised what you end up with. Good luck. -
Wow. No. I've had mine for about 3 weeks so I'll keep an eye on it

How Many Hybrids Do You Carry?
mtnbiker5 replied to mtnbiker5's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Nice. Thanks guys. I guess I'm trying to figure out the "gaps" I might have by eliminating the 3 & 4 irons from my bag. Seeing more of this out there as well it seems. I've been blasting the new RBZ 3 wood, 3 & 4 hybrid probably longer than I would hit my 3 & 4 irons on a good day so I guess this makes sense. Totally have to re-calibrate my yardage now which should be interesting. Oh the buckets of balls......... -
I'm curious to see how many hybrids everyone carries these days. I'm "re-tooling" my arsenal. Thinking of just eliminating the 3 & 4 irons completely, replacing with a 3 & 4 hybrid. I basically will be carrying driver, 3W, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 5-p/w, 2 wedges, 56 & 60. Just curious of your thoughts. Thanks.

I dont mean to stir up the pot and I dont own (yet) any Taylor Made products, HOWEVER, I demo'd the Rocket Balz 3W the other day. Let me keep it simple: Had anyone out there noticed their balls traveling farther with this club or is it me?
-
I thought I loved my 4-5 yr old Callaway X 3W until I had the new Taylormade Rocket Balz in my hand. You seriously have to be kidding me......This also applies to their rescue 18 degree I was demo'ing. I say again, you seriously have to be kidding me. Can you say BOMBS!!!!! The 3W I've must have gained easily 10-15 yds. How do I know? On hole 18 at my local course, long par 4, straight, up to the green. Big green. Usually my 2nd shot is the 3W to the green which I have never, ever, made the green with Callaway. I usually break out my PW for an easy chip on. I had the TM for a demo that day. Same location on fairway, same weather conditions. I flew the green. I almost thought I miss hit the ball. I dropped 2 balls down just to be sure. Both solid hits. Both flew the green as well. It appeared one of them stuck on the back edge and rolled off with the others but all of them were off. Has anyone else tried these new clubs by Taylor Made? I cant vouch for the driver, I dont want to even try the damn thing. The 3W and Rescue I demo'd that day has totally messed my game up now. I have to completely re calibrate my yardage and club selection now which is amazingly good. WTF is up with these clubs?
-
Thanks guys. Was rippin the AP2's tonight on the range. Had the Razr X Forged as well. 6 iron, same shafts. AP2 for me was farther and just felt better. Pulled the trigger and should have my new sticks within a week. Cant wait. Appreciate all your help.

I think Tiger should just stop worrying about Tiger. Sick of listening to everything he and the commentators have to say about it. Its always all about Tiger. Rory makes an incredible 25 foot put yesterday and what did I hear Nance call it, "a Tiger putt?!" Wtf is that?! Tiger wasnt even in the game. The media makes everything all about Tiger. Tiger took a dump today, wow. Sick of hearing about Tiger and his woes. Rory spanked him along with the rest of the field. Tiger=Yawn.....
-
I know alot of this discussion probably comes down to personal feel/preference of a club. I'm trying to see if there are any main differences between the AP2 and Razr X Forged. To be honest I like them both. I appear to be hitting the Razr a little more solid and it has a nice feel. Any feedback on the two would help. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Callaway is tightening their belts now with all the press lately. They need to slim down a lot of their product lines in my opinion. Just focus on making 3-4 really really good sticks. I've yet to see one club other than the mb that is truly a beautiful club. I really like Callaway too but they need to re group right now.
-
Nice. I seriously would put a Quarter on the sweetspot, wrap some duct tape around it and let er rip. Probably crush the ball.

Titleist Irons - AP1 vs. AP2
mtnbiker5 replied to jd4vt1998's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Will Titleist be changing the AP2 at all for 2013 or will it be the exact same club? I know some manufacturers change the cosmetics sometimes. -
Thanks for the reply. Your setup looks nice. Yeah I dunno. I'm in the mkt for new irons and trying to do my research and for the life of me I cannot find one bad review of these clubs. If anything, I see people reviewing other brands comparing them to these sticks. Amazing. Have my radar on the new Ping Ansers that are coming out but I'm 99.9% sure I'm pulling the trigger on the AP2's. Thanks again.
