I also have my UK ball marker with me every round and I have the titleist UK Hat with the magnetic brim so I can just put the marker on the top and not worry about it until I need it. I hate carrying anything in my pocket at all.

Dragons are much scarier. Dragons are huge, scales like armor, razor-like talons and BREATHE FIRE!!! Unless you're talking about those little bearded dragons from PetSmart. Large fire-breathing reptiles > stumbling brain eaters.

What do you consider the most stupid rule in golf?
kymonopoly replied to rstyle's topic in Golf Talk
Dumbest rule in golf is play the play the ball where it lies and here is my example: I decided to swing my driver as hard as I possibly could to reach a green in one and I hit it waaaaaaaaayyyyyy right (which happens to me when I overswing). It stayed in bounds but I was right behind/up against a 9000 year old oak tree. Personally, I feel like i should have had some relief from this horrific lie. LOL -
Any of you ever had a chance to play a Pro course?

When I was at the University of Kentucky, my friend Becky's dad was a member at Valhalla and I was privileged enough to play there. I felt incredibly intimidated for many reasons. lol -
I am looking at a pair of closeout Icon Waves but the regular width is just a touch too tight and because of that I would imagine that the Wides would be much too big for me. My question is...Does anyone have a pair of Waves or Icons in general and do they stretch a little after being broken in? Thanks everyone.

Has anyone made a purchase that your foursome looks at you and wonders "what is that?" or "why in the world did you buy that?" I don't mean any clubs or golf balls. If I'm not making any sense, here's my example: My friends all shake their hands and give me questioning looks when I use it. I admit that I rarely use it and I purchased it on a whim but am I the only one with a purchase that give pause to the others in your group?

Thanks for the input. Greatly appreciated.

Part of my concern was also the cost of the brush tees.. For the same price of the brush tees I can buy a decent amount of regular wooden tees and I wasnt sure how durable the brushes were/are.

Oh, I bought the r11s but I had been saving for that so I dont count it as impulse.

I am a big University of Kentucky fan so my impulse purchase started with a UK bag. It spiraled from there: UK MyJoys Two different UK towels UK Divot Tools UK Titleist Cap with ball marker 3 other UK ball markers UK Driver cover UK Putter Cover UK Hybrid Cover General Blue headcovers that match UK colors Within the last 18 months I've purchased: GPS 3 other pairs of footjoy shoes (Superlites, Icons, BOAs) and a set of on sale Adams a3os clubs for my dad who I thought "needed" clubs. I have the same issue when going into golf galaxy, it's like the Cheers for golfers. I also have a shoe issue as I am always trying to find shoes to match my various polos or shorts. If I can't play well, I might as well look decent. Sorry for the rambling.

Has anyone tried those "brush tees"? I use plain white tees and just haven't spent the money to see if there is a difference overall.

My grandfather took me to his home course when I first got interested in playing. I didn't repair my ball mark (since I was new I didn't know golf course etiquite) and my grandfather showed me how to repair the mark and told me that every time I fix my own mark, find two more and repair those as well. I have done that ever since and like you Dave2512, I will repair a few more that may be around me or in my line.

Congrats on the accomplishment by the way. It's the memories of firsts that keep one coming back for more

It was the 14th hole on my first time out and that's what started my love of the game. EXTREMELY dumb luck. I used to play baseball so my arms, hip rotation, feet were all in the "baseball feel" With the poor mechanics I hit the green and it stopped about 6' from the hole. Putted in from there. After that though, it took 3 years to get my second one. Stupid first birdie made me think that the game was easy. I love and resent my grandfather for that first time out. LOL

I hate the cigarette butts laying around the tee box and in bunkers. Just because the smoking stand outside of the mall has sand, it doesn't mean that all sand is for cigarette butts. Also, I chew sunflower seeds on the course and generally it's after the first 4 or 5 holes because my game has quickly taken a turn for the worse. I would hate to clean up the cart with seeds spit in it. I try to spit them into the empty gatorade/water/coke bottle that I just finished off or into the woods where my errant tee shot went. Golf is supposed to be the gentlemen's game and we (golfers as a whole) have forgotten that periodically. The way I look at it is this...I wouldn't do this stuff inside the house that my friend just built, what makes it ok to do it at the place Pete Dye built?

That being said, I ran into this guy last weekend that hit the ball into our fairway where my wife was fixing to tee off. He didn't wait for her before he came right over in front of her (about 60 yds down) and hit his ball again. It went about 10 yards and even further into our way. He lined up on it and hit it another 10 - 15 yds. He finally saw that he was being an idiot, picked up his ball and threw it into his fairway. The wife was then able to hit her shot. Those are exceptions. Thanks for that post. We had a group of 2 playing a few holes behind our foursome and when we were at the turn they were on the green at 9 so we waited for them to putt and told them to play through. We were playing at a pace for a 4 hour round. The two behind us said they don't mind and to take our time. So we teed off and all 4 of us were in the fairway (between 200 and 250 yards) and one of them drove into us as we were waiting for the shortest of the group to hit his second shot. No warning, no fore, no courtesy to apologize. I fully recognize I have a short fuse but that set me off. I teed his ball up in the fairway and blasted it 90 degrees to the right. Was it wrong? yes. Should I have done it? No. But don't tell me that you're ok with our pace and then hit into us. Crucify me. I know it was a d*ick thing to do.

On my way to the course I'll play Lil Wayne, Kanye West, 2pac, Miri Ben Ari or older hip-hop. If I am by myself and on the course I usually play, I generally listen to Yo Yo Ma on the cello with headphones. If it's a new course that I rarely play or have never played, I don't listen to anything because I want to take in my surroundings and enjoy every new thing that I can. I never listen to anything when there are others in my group.

Hello. I'm new to the forum and I'm glad I can find somewhere to read golf and discuss it as well. First, I apologize if this has been discussed anywhere and I didn't see it and also for the lengthy post but I am hoping to get some answers and feedback. Here is my situation: Every year i host a small (24-32) golf tournament and we just play and dont factor in handicaps. We have a few guys who can hit 250 yds on the drive and a few who can't hit the front of the fairway. I dont want to exclude the short and non-straight hitters because they have fun, but it can take upwards of 3 shots to reach the longer hitters. These extra shots also slow the playing group and subsequently every group after. Here's what I was thinking and where I could use advice: I want to implement a quasi-best ball format. I was thinking that I would have everyone tee off on every hole but on the par 4s and 5s the tee shots would be best ball. That way the short erratic hitters wouldn't play as many shots and slow everyone down. It wouldn't penalize the better players because every other shot per hole they play would be their own. I don't want o play a complete best ball tournament, mainly because I don't get how it would determine a single winner if the possibility exists for everyone to putt from 2 feet from the cup. Also, I am implementing a double par shot limit. Thoughts? I really appreciate your answers and patience while reading my post. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask as I am always looking for ways to improve the tournament. Jonathan
