  1. Outstanding post. /global warming discussion.
  2. From the 'Dirty Dozen' that included his transgressions during his marriage, his type was 'most things with a pulse'. I'm guessing the Perkins waitress wasn't drop dead gorgeous/hot.
  3. Yeah, but Vonn hasn't swung a 2 iron stinger at his head.
  4. Better yet; keep putting your club in the same bag.
  5. I wouldn't dump my 60° LW for anything. As with all your clubs, it's knowing when to use it and when not to use it. If you have little green to work with use the LW. If you have plenty of green to work with, use another club to get the ball on the putting surface and get it rolling. Using the same chipping stroke and just change the club. I've chipped with every iron in my bag.

I agree with the fitting benefit. I went into Edwin Watts here just to get my MP-59s I purchased off of Ebay checked for authenticity and lie/loft angles and they confirmed they were real as well as standard lie, loft. Then they had me swing them with impact tape, finding me hitting them towards the toe of the club. Then they checked my measurements and found I should be at +1/2" and slightly upright. Instead of dropping another $300 on reshafting/regripping them, I chose option #2 of getting them bent a little more upright. They went with 2° on the 4-7 and 3° on the 8-PW. After doing that, the impact tape showed me hitting everything right in the center of the face. What a difference. My biggest tip (and it's relevant to your post given your statement about chipping) is to pick a spot you want to land your ball when chipping/short pitches. Be exact when picking it then focus on hitting that spot when you're making your shot. Nine times out of ten, by focusing on that spot instead of mechanics, you'll make better contact and your chipping results will be much better. You'd be surprised how often you come close to hitting that spot too.
  7. I would think if you got into a habit of watching the putter go back, you might be inclined to swivel your head at times unconsciously. Head movement during putting doesn't sound good, does it? Mr. Desmond's post about Stockton's tip on focusing on a spot in front of the ball is the first I've heard of that and sounds interesting. I'm inclined to think that also might cause you to have your eyes misaligned (aimed left of target line). I think I'll stick with keeping my eyes on the ball and try not to move my head.
  8. 79 with 3 double bogies and 2 birdies. Was on the green or fringe of 11 greens and only had 27 putts (putting from fringe doesn't count as a putt). Front nine I had 10 putts which was a new low for me.
  9. I had my first two last year. Hit a par 5 in two with the second barely clearing the water. Playing partner then holed out for eagle from a greenside bunker, making my 8 foot eagle putt look all of forty feet. I still drained it though. Second one came weeks later. Holed out from the fairway from 172 yards into a real stiff wind. One hop and dropped it. I don't feel robbed but I have come close to acing a couple holes.

    Driving Distance

These threads always crack me up........... The internet is full of guys hitting it 300+ yards and nicknamed 'the human tripod' when naked.
  11. Since this thread has been resurrected, so should this absolutely funny quote. http://thesandtrap.com/t/62750/whats-your-avg-drive-swing-speed/18 Looking at the above thread, I see several examples of what TourSpoon is referring to.
  12. http://thesandtrap.com/t/54229/trackman-figures-from-some-tour-players Just thought I'd throw out the link to the Tour players trackman info to keep things in perspective and to hopefully qwell some of the outlandish claims usually seen in these threads. Funny quote from TourSpoon in that thread talking about the Pros average swing speed.... "I learned that most of these guys would have a hard time keeping up with the typical Internet drive average." Rory was averaging 111 mph I believe. His average carry distance was 279 yds as well with average total distance at 290 yds. I'm 6'1" 220 lbs at 44 years old and do well to get 100 mph consistently. I'll catch a hold of some drives and get them out there 270 or so (including roll). I'm a little hesistant to believe some numbers given at Dick's or Edwin Watts since they're trying to sell me stuff.
  13. Well, you're spot on with it being selfless. IMO to truly love your spouse means commitment; throw the parachutes out of the plane, cast off the lifeboats and commit to the ride you're on. If you don't have an escape plan, you'll try as hard as you can to make sure it works. And yes selfish bastards/b!tches can change. But if you want to truly start with a clean slate, find someone who hasn't seen that old persona.
  14. It's presumptious to assume they got married because they were in love. She may have been but I'm not sure if Tiger knew/knows what love is. If you love someone, you don't go whoring around; especially without condoms. For Pete's sake, even one was a porn star. Way to risk your life and the life of your wife for the pleasure of sticking Tiger Jr. in a human petri dish. That isn't love. That being said, Tiger could change if HE wants to; I'm sure if he puts in half the effort that he does to change his swing into getting help with his problems, he stands a chance. The point I was trying to make earlier is that he's done what appears to me as irrepairable damage to his relationship with that particular woman. She was publically humiliated and unless she's completely stupid, she'll realize this will always be a story and the whispering behind her back will continue for years. It's unlikely he'll ever be trusted again and she'll always be waiting for the other shoe to drop. He'll be under constant scrutiny and always be looking over his shoulder. How long do you think he'll be willing to endure that? IMO, he should just get counselling and therapy but find another woman with whom he can start with a clean slate. She should find someone out of the public eye and live off the money she's already gotten.
  15. CANNONBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANNONBALL COMING!!!!!!!!
  16. So giving her half your sh!t wasn't good enough? Have to open the door to losing half of what you got left?!!! Not to mention she'll never let him live that down. Any argument they have, he'll be nailed back to that cross or she'll question him on everything that doesn't seem right. Just move on and find another bikini model. What a dumbass. And to her...........A Tiger can't change it's stripes. He'll continue getting more tail than a toilet seat but he'll just be better hiding it now. Another woman that thinks she can change a man. Hell, she's got more money than she knows what to do with AND great looking. Just leave that trash by the curb and move on. What a dumbass. Maybe they deserve each other............
  17. Whatever's working............ I've owned 3 putters over the years. A Bullseye, an Odyssey Two-Ball putter and now an Odyssey White Ice. I switched to the White Ice last year because the Two-Ball felt like I was putting with a brick. Still not putting great but I'm not practicing much either. More than hitting it where I want to I need a lesson in green reading. Over reading breaks consistently........
  18. Dropping the club in the slot has always been a difficult thing for me to get. For some reason I start hanging back and dropping my left shoulder down quite a bit with my arms (I'm a lefty so think right shoulder dropping) and causes a plethora of mishits. When solid contact is made it's usually with added loft and fighting the dreaded 'flip'. One thing I've found is that I haven't been swinging one way for quite awhile. Either I'm working on too many things at the same time or I'm not putting in enough practice to hone a change. So my New Year's resolution is to work on one thing until it's grooved. I'm now focusing on letting my left arm fold easier on the backswing which seems to allow me to get on plane and stay on plane easier. I'm hitting my clubs much better but it's still a work in progress. The first round focusing on that had me hitting 10 fairways and either on or on the fringe of 13 greens. I carded a 79 though as I putted like crap. The two double bogies didn't help either.............
  19. I'd agree with that considering most amateurs that are guilty of this aren't hitting the sweetspot on all their shots. The ones that do hit the sweetspot but underclub, let their ego get in the way. For Pros, I assume they don't do this because their livelyhood is on the line. They could care less whether or not they use a 8 iron when Tiger/Rory just hit the green with a PW.
  20. My brother and I used to and called it 'ball 1 ball 2'. We always made sure the 'agressive' shot went first. The thinking was subconsciously you may make a smoother stroke knowing you've already kept the 'safe' shot in play. Play the agressive one first every shot to simulate taking a big risk. Almost always did the safe shooting ball win.
  21. Exactly. That's part of the problem; speculation is another. $80 is what they've determined to be the max sustainable point. They've developed a foolproof system. Make sure the politicians are getting rich at the same time and you don't have to worry. Death of a thousand cuts.....
  22. I'm not talking about those that can easily afford golf. I'm referring to those people struggling to make ends meet these days. At once per week, that 'bargain' of $140-$200 per month (not counting all the rest of the smaller expenses associated with golf) may be the difference between someone keeping their home or losing it. If you've ever been there, recreational activities are the first to go in tough times. I went through a layoff at Delta Airlines years ago and the first two things to go were Golf and beer. As far as your second statement, the price per barrel of oil doesn't always equate to the price of a gallon of gas. You see runups in gas when oil goes up but when oil starts dropping, gas doesn't always follow suit. Then you have the price of oil and gas are being artificially kept high to keep those with oil interests in record profits. Oil companies may still be keeping their margins at 10% or so profit but 10% of the price these days equals RECORD profits. It seems pretty elementary to me but if you lower the price of gas, the price of most things SHOULD come down. Then people aren't spending as much on gas or the cost of living therefore they have more disposible income to dump into the economy. Business have more cash flow therefore can expand and increase hiring putting more people to work. More people working increases the tax base, input into the economy, etc. Sure, it isn't that simplistic but saying '80 per barrel' isn't sustainable is off base IMO. Americans are being bled dry by the price of gas.
  23. which is nice. Great Caddyshack reference man. I spend about $200.00/month in membership/greens fees which covers range as well (covers walking 4 times and 1 cart fee). Canongate golf here in Atlanta is a pretty decent deal. Just started back in May after about a five year hiatus so I spent about $1300.00 on equipment (new bag, used clubs, regripping, range finder, balls, shoes, etc). So this year I've got about $3k in this year. I'll probably get new irons for my birthday but keep the budget at about $600. But I'm going to get some lessons this year so figure another $400-500 on that as well. So about $3,500.00 for this next year as well.
  24. Hard to justify spending $35-$50 a round with the higher sustained cost of living. Higher gas prices, higher food bills, higher unemployment rates so companies can require higher education for jobs to get the pick of the litter in this job market AND pay less, couples have to work more hours or travel more to make the same wages as several years ago, etc. Higher fuel prices are almost as much responsible for the economy as the mortgage debacle. Most people can't pass off the extra cost of filling up to anyone. No reason why we should be paying over $1.50 a gallon. Lower the cost of fuel and you will see economy slowly recover. People will have more $$ to spend.
  25. You just need to train yourself to reverse everything if the instructor/instruction refers to right or left. As a lefty as well I can assure you it gets to be second nature.
