Lucas Glover is not off to a good start. 3 over after 3. better hope he gets that straightened out soon.

Welcome aboard. I think you'll find the sandtrap an inviting place to hang out. How did the courses in your area fair in the storms down there? I'm sure there are probably some in much worse shape than others. I'd think the impact would have been pretty tough on some of them.

Whoa there. Lets not get carried away now. USC up by one. Hope the missed point after doesn't cost texas. I'm really ready to see usc go down. They are the only thing that has been on tv and radio for weeks. Time to crown a new champ. I'm really pulling for them that way when the buckeyes beat texas second game in next year that should about put us in the number one spot.
-
Now you and me both would love to see AJ go to the browns but I don't think that will happen. Would be nice though. I'm sure his family would love it too. Hey if Posluszny ( correct now ) makes it he'd still be a good pick for the browns.
-
Yes this surely isn't the game I've seen touted for weeks as the best offensive in years is it? I guess over a month off game the defense a chance to prepare.

Well I'll always pull for the big 10 teams in the bowl games. Got to support the coference at least. I really don't mind penn state. The president of our company is penn state alum so we usually like to get him fired up a little. Was a different story this year though. I think the big 10 should be pretty tough again next year. I really hope pusluzni sp? I know that can't be right but I really hope that injury last night was not serious. He was a big part of beating the buckeyes and I really hate to see anyone with that much talent get hurt in their last game. Best wishes to him.

I need texas and less than 60 points total. Then I'm 200 bucks richer in our bowl contest at work. There are 5 of us tied going into this game. 4 of us have texas. I have the least amount of points with 60 so as long as texas wins and the total score is less than 60 I'll be out shopping. Hook em horns.

Well I really enjoy Faldo and Azinger. Hopefully something works out. This brings up a good question though. If they are out and a new network picks it up what kind of golf talent could they get to help cover tournaments. Who would you love or hate to see on Sunday covering the final round? How about Trevino. That could be fun.

Anyone Heard of Javithon Golf Clubs?
kklick replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well I can't even find a reference of any sort to javithon and golf. Best I could find was a reference to them and tennis racquets and it said they were out of business. Are you sure of the spelling? Ok I take that back. I found the company who apparently made their logos but still nothing on the company. http://members.tripod.com/rh_efolio2...i_web/one.html -
Ok I knew I just read a bit about them a while back. Thanks cmarkmyers for reminding me where I saw it. Here was my favorite part of that little review.

I'm currently playing the titleist 990b irons. They are in the dci line but are definitely blade inspired. If you compare them to the 690mbs they actually have less offset in every club except the wedge I believe. I'm sure they push the limits of my abilities but as others have stated there is nothing like the pure shot that you can barley feel jump off the club. I'm set on getting the new titleist 735s and trying them out. Just need a few more side jobs to come in and were in business.

Do you play better with better players?
kklick replied to Maverick's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Guess I can go both ways on this. Two summers ago I really started playing alot with really good golfers. I was probably 20 or higher handicap at that time playing with with a scratch, 2 and an 8 handicap. The first summer I really seemed to struggle when I played with them. I tried to put so much pressure on myself to play well and not hold them up. I'd also tend to get really upset with myself if I hit bad shots. I didn't go around throwing clubs but it was the anger that I kept in that killed me. Always took 3 or 4 holes to get over a bad shot. The turning point came on the third hole of a weekend outing early last spring. The first two holes were the usual overly tense swings that led to over par scores. We came up to a short par 4 will all kinds trouble everwhere. I think the hole played about 315 over a bit of a gulley with bunkers everywhere. As I awaited my turn to tee of LAST I watched the first three tee off before pulling a club. All of them hit an iron with only one staying out of trouble. At that point I decided if I was going to get in trouble it would be deep trouble. I pulled driver and left every thought I had in the bag. Went up and put freewheeling unihibited swing on it and rolled it up about 20 feet from the pin. At that point I finally made myself believe I could hang with these guys. After a two putt tap in birdie I headed to the next tee with alot of confidence. Well after promptly duck hooking my next drive into the woods I was brought back to reality. That one drive was a changing point in my game though. I knew I had the ability to compete with them. Maybe not on every hole or every shot but I could win a few holes. Now I am pretty competitive with them on a regular basis. I love being the underdog and having the opportunity to compete with better players. We very seldom play with handicap so the urgency to play well is always there. There are two types of bad players. Bad players who have a passion for the game and are striving to get better. These players I can handle because they typically pay attention and know the basic rules. The other type of bad players are the people who go out and hack it around and don't care. I work in the lumber industry so I see alot of this in outings. The perfect example was at our company's outing last summer. The outing was for our vendors and customers. I must have ticked off the guy setting the teams because I got paired with 3 guys who couldn't break 100 if they only played 9 holes. It was a scramble. We ended up 5 over!! We only used 5 shots that were not mine. 4 were chips from around the green. One was a tee shot on a 158 yard par three. My partner who's shot we used hit driver to about six feet. They came for one thing free food and beer. Believe me they took advantage of that. That was a miserable round for me because these guys had no interest in golf. I don't know that any of them could have name more than 3 members of the pga tour. I enjoy playing with anyone who has a love for the game and wants to play good or bad. Sorry for the rant. -
I've seen them a few times and played with them at the golf store. Never really got to swing it for any period of time though. Its been around for awhile and definitely looks like it has potential. There are also alot of imitations out there now. They say imitation is the best form of flattery so there may be something to it.
-
Hey you got to get out and play though thats always a good thing. If you've played less than 10 times making par is a big step. Keeping those big numbers out of the picture is the best bet. Bogeys won't kill a round but get a few doubles or triples and then the trouble starts. Looks like its supposed to be snowing again here in ohio this week. I don't think we'll have many chances to get out around here for a bit.

After watching penn state last night I still don't know how we lost to them. That was one of the worst offensive bowl games I've watched. I don't really think it was because of spectacular defense either. Neither offense could really get anything going. Then at the end when they all started missing field goals it was kind of like a train wreck. I just couldn't turn it off. I was glad to see penn state pull it out but that was painful to watch. I'm really looking forward to the buckeyes season next year. We lose some big defense so that may hurt a bit but our offense should be top notch next year.

Well I watched the infomercial and while it looks like it could have some potential I don't think I could put that in my bag. I'll be interested to see how you like it though. Be sure to let us know

Here is a video link that has some tips on warming up before your round. e59d0b501bff264233943e617f38f21e-42406a85.spl.asf The league I play in during the summer does not have a range either. I usally try to get there a little early and get in some chipping and putting. Then I'll just stretch and try to get as loose as I can before firing away. Our course also has a few cornfields close to the first tee so if you have some junk balls you can sneak a few swings in that way. Not good advice for a crowded course though. Hope you hit it good tomorrow!

Driver shafts and swing speeds
kklick replied to Clubswinger21's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Got to say I agree with iacas on this. If you want the best then you really need to get fitted for your driver and the rest of your clubs as far as that goes. Now unfortunately it looks like the titleist van may be a bit hard to come by. I don't think it should be all that difficult to locate someone in your area though. Here are a few links that looked good that I found. Not sure how close they are to you but it may be worth a look. Just scroll down a bit here. Its about the third item down. 45 bucks but its applied to a purchase so thats not bad. http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/park...ras_prices.htm It appears this is a pretty large retailer in Canada. May want to check them out. http://www.golftown.com/storeLocator/ Looks like they offer a pretty good shaft fitting lab. May want to check it out if you're still wanting to reshaft. http://www.golftown.com/academyProSh...omFitting.aspx Ok here is some info I found on golf.about.com. Pretty much in line with what NM golf said but a bit more detailed. Some General Guidelines The degree of flex in your club shafts is something you control. You can choose to buy stiffer shafts, or softer shafts, depending on your needs. But how can you tell what you need? Here are some general guidelines: • Take a look at the distance you hit your driver. This is a good, but very general, indicator. If you carry you driver 250 yards or more, go with Stiff; 230-250 yards, Regular; 200-230 yards, Senior; less than 200 yards, Ladies. Only the biggest of the big hitters is going to need Extra Stiff. For most of us, Extra Stiff isn't even in the picture. • If you have a very smooth swing, you might benefit from a softer flex even if you swing very fast. A swing that gets jerky at the top - when transitioning into the downswing - will probably need a stiffer shaft. • If your drives go left, you might benefit from a stiffer flex; if your drives go right, you might benefit from a softer flex. If Your Flex Is Too Stiff What effect does a too-stiff shaft have on your golf game? 1. The ball will probably fly lower and shorter for any given loft, compared to a properly fit shaft. 2. The ball may tend to go to the right, or fade side, for right-handed golfers because with a too-stiff shaft the clubface is harder to square (the clubface is more likely to be open at impact, in other words). 3. The shot may feel less solid, more like a mis-hit even if you make contact on the center of the clubface. If Your Flex Isn't Stiff Enough And what will happen if your flex isn't stiff enough? 1. The ball might fly higher for any given loft, compared to a properly fit shaft. 2. The ball may tend to go left, or to the draw side, for a right-handed golfer (because with a too-flexible shaft, the clubhead may tend to come into the ball closed). 3. Shots may tend to feel more solid, even when they aren't. Hope something in there helps out. -
Good thing he gripped down to account for that uphill lie. HOLY COW!!!! Sorry but I don't really think I'd put myself in that position drunk or not. That could have been pretty ugly.

Managed 13. Nailed the match play but didn't do so well on the first part.

Well that turned out to be a great Fiesta Bowl. Well for the Buckeye fans at least. I think ND may have underestimated the talent they were going to face. Now on to next year. My first pick for the Hiesman. Troy Smith of course. What a great game he had today. He really progressed throughout the season and finished with a great performance. All I can say is bring on Texas. We play them second game of the year next year. I can guaranteed we won't give them another game. Looks to be an exciting season coming up. Best of luck to any of you who have games left. Looks like early in the georgia game west va. is up. Should be another good game there.

Looks like a pretty slick idea to me. If you know what you're looking for in your swing then it looks like you'd be able to analyze it very quickly and easily with the system. I'd definitely like to have access to something like that. I know for a fact I'd have my swing on their so I could check it out.

If you can hit your driver off the deck then sure. I'm pretty sure I hit driver, 3wood, 6 iron. Pulled the 6 iron left of the green chipped on and 2 putted for par.

I think some of you guys may be overlooking the obvious here. Stopping the club after impact is not all that uncommon. Now I agree it would never work as a normal swing but should be beneficial in practice drills. Need some examples? Ok here you go. http://www.practicerange.com/detail.aspx?ID=620 Impact bags stop the club after impact. Impact bags are used by alot of instructors. Therefore stopping the club after impact is suggested by many teachers. I'm not trying to argue with anyone but I think the original point has some validity. Now I'm not sure how easy it would be to try and stop a full speed swing after impact but I can see how a half speed swing or something may work. Essentially he is trying to do the same thing an impact bag would do. Show where the club should be at impact. Now I'm not a golf instructor or teacher by any means so maybe I'm way off base. Thats how I see it though.

Well it seems to me that by tring to stop the club after contact it would keep you from pulling up and catching it thin. I'd also guess by trying to stop the club you probably don't see youself falling back away from the ball. If you have a problem finishing on your back foot or the reverse pivot that can also cause you to pull up and catch it thin. Make sure that someone standing behind you could see the sole of your back foot when you finish. Another common cause of a thin shot is tension. Hold your club out in front of you at your normal address position with your arms and shoulders relaxed. Now just tense your arms and shoulders and your grip and you'll see the club pull up from the ground. Tension can make the club pull up from a half inch to an inch. Now if your club is an inch high on an inch and a half ball you can imagine what shot you'll get from that. Keep your grip light and your arms relaxed and see if that helps any.
