  1. My favourite swing has to be Raphael Jacquelin, it looks as though he is only trying to hit it ten yards, poetry in motion My least favourite has to be JB Holmes, it is just hideous to watch and just looks out of control. He just looks as though he cant do anything but swing very hard!! And when you consider that for example Paul Casey does not hit it much shorter than him, and his swing is controlled and lovely to watch!!!
  2. Here is a very quick explanantion of a square headed driver, In short, yes they do make you hit it straighter, on off centre hits, but they will not make you hit it longer generally. The reason for this si that the square design allows the manufacturer to put weight in the extreme back corners of the club, as far awayf from the fgace as possible, what this does is increase the moment of inertia ("MOI"). MOI is the clubs ability to resist twisting forces. For the player this equates to: When the ball comes off the toe or heel, the club will twist less on impact, reducing the side spin imparted on the ball, equating to the ball going straighter. When the ball is struck out of the middle of the clubface, the result will be little different to that of a regular "round" driver as the MOI has considerably less effect from the centre of the clubface. In terms of distance the USGA and R&A; set limits as to how far a golf ball can travel off a driver travelling at a certain speed, this means that for example any driver swung at a certain speed is not allowed to hit the ball further than x amount of yards. Since all modern manufacturers make their drivers to absolute maximum limit of this rule, square, round, hexagonal, octagonal, triangular etc etc drivers should hit the ball a cery similar distance (on centre strikes) Whether you should buy this club or not you have kind of answered this yourself and only you can decide whether you actually want it or not. It is always worth bearing in mind what i call the "excited" effect. It is easy to swing a new club, hit a good shot and be very excited about it and produce good results for a couple of rounds. However once this excitement has worn off it is common to go back to your original problems, but a couple of hundred £'s/$'s worse off! If you are considering buying a new driver the best advice you can ever get is to go and get a PROPER fitting for it, no one can tell you what loft and shaft to get unless they see everything about your game. And remember there is no such thing as a magic club, if you hit a big slice normally, you will still do so with a square driver, but to less of an extent!!
  3. Heya guys I have had a problem with my left hip not clearing since taking up golf a number of years ago. The best way to describe the movement is that i get to the top of my backswing, where i get into a good position, i start back down with my hips (as i have been told and read you should) but then instead of clearing away and behind my left hip just shunts towards to target and my spine angle alters (does this make sense?). Although my path is from the inside this leads to me either pushing the ball out to the right or hooking it (tends to be with longer clubs). Has anyone got any tips, advice or drills that will teach me how to clear my left hip properly? I have tried throwing to the left at the start of my swing but then it clears waaaayyyyy to early and i lose all swing momentum!! Any help is greatly apppreciated! PS I have got a video of my swing but i really dont know how to go about posting it!!
  4. So he won in europe, the "inferior tour" yet the field was probably the best field seen in the world this year, the current playing world number 1 was there, including world class players such as paul casey, henrik stenson, robert karlsson, lee westwood and justin rose, most of which came in the top 15 of the tournament and yet he still has to prove himself as a player?? Would you be saying differently if he had won the FBR where phil mickelson and geoff ogilvy were the two best in the field, and mickelson missed the cut by a country mile? As far as im concerned winning the Dubai championship (which Tiger woods won last year) is as good an achievement as winning most if not all PGA tour events, and is probably just shy of the players, and WGC's. But getting back on topic, i feel that this statement is not being read in it's correct light, Mark Omeara said Rory's BALL STRIKING was beeter than Woods was at 19, more than ,ikely true as Woods often said himself that at that age he was out of control and just trying to bomb it as far as possible every time. Rory's mental game and putting game at this age though is no comparison to Tigers was, however i dont think there can be much argument that he is a great talent and someone who is more than likely to do extremely well in the future and probably win majors!
  5. I have to admit, i am completely and utterly fed up with taylormade releasing driver after driver after driver after driver. it seems life 2 months cant go by without a new driver coming out. In recent memory these are drivers that taylormade have released or are soon to release: r7 Superquad r7 Superquad TP r7 CGB max r7 CGB max limited Burner Burner Draw Burner Tp Tour burner Tour Burner Tp r7 Limited Burner 09 As far as i am concerned this si too many. i do appreciate that if people are stupid enough to buy the new taylormade driver everytime one comes out, they will keep doing it, but do people not realise that it will not improve their game that much if at all!! With regards to the R9, it looks like the R7 limited and sounds very much like the nike dymo that is coming out. I would much prefer to go and have a club fitting and pick a club mathced to me rather than buy one that has 24 settings for me to ruin my game with. R9
  6. I do think that Henrik Stenson is a great player, i do not think that he is the hottest player at the moment though!! For that title i would look at someone like Sergio Garcia or perhaps Robert Karlsson. And Stenson has got a weakness, a major one, he cannot hit driver at all well at the minute, and i know he can hit his 3 wood further than most, but this is still a weakness. With regards to him being boring, i think the complete opposite, he is a real character off the course, being a practical joker!! And his play is brillianty to watch, surely the whole point is to hit fairways and greens??????
  7. With regards to the driver, i remember a little while back when Woods cracked the face of his normal one, he used his backup and couldn't handle it as he said it span too much. I remember reading later on (cannot for the life of me remember where) that flight stats showed his rpm to be up about 100 on usual, and he could feel/see it! UNREAL
  8. I suspect this is another example of something that plagues golf, A USELESS INVENTION! If traditional ones are so bad there would be signs on courses saying "Please don't use traditional pitch mark repairers" much like there are clubs that request spikes aren't worn. From the looks of it, a dessert fork would be more than ample at doing the same job! It reminds me of those inventions like the "Bald Eagle Golf Ball" or the "Golf Ball Balancer", as far as i am concerned these make a TINY difference, and due to clever advertising when a ball does miss the hole by 1mm, it is because of the "dimple effect" or an unbalanced golf ball. I used a zero friction tee, didn't make any noticeable difference, and how are you supposed to tell? In my opinion, don't waste your money on this crap, buy a traditional one for next to nothing and learn to use it properly!
  9. What hasn't been mentioned is that he is world number one, and to replace him means that a person who wouldn't have been picked but for his injury now has to be picked, in essence somebody CONSIDERABLY lower in the rankings. Even though Tiger's record hasn't been great, it isn't bad, and he is pretty much guaranteed to get 2-2.5 points for the US, i doubt the replacement can guarantee that! Without doubt it is a blow to the US
  10. And i have empirical evidence you are an idiot, the fact that there have been NUMEROUS people already telling you why you are wrong! Unless you know the specific ins and outs of the specific injury and surgery that tiger had (i'm 99.999999999% sure you don't) then you cannot comment. End of story. Tiger Woods has had knee problem for a long time, and on this occasion the surgery may have been more substantial, i am only speculating, but i'm certainly not making outlandish statements and pretending they are fact! In football (soccer) a player called ronaldo (at the time the best player on the planet) had knee surgery and he didn't kick a ball for a year! Do you really genuinely believe that an individual like Tiger Woods would fake an injury? What is the point, there is none. You claim it was so that if he played badly he could blame the knee, surely if this is the case he would have been ranting about it himself, instead of saying "it is what it is, i've just got to get on with it." Again, he is often wincing on good shots, surely your argument would be stronger if he was wincing on bad shots, thus appearing to blame the injury for the bad shot. Or is this all part of the Tiger Woods conspiracy? Let me guess, you are going to start a thread about the moon landing being fake, and that Elvis is still alive, and that JFK was shot by russians, or the CIA, or even aliens? These are all about as accurate as claiming that woods has faked his injury!
  11. I bought a box of tour ix last weekend, and i was sceptical at first as i currently use the HX tour 56 and was worried i would losr control as the ix is the harder less spinny of the two. I played 18 holes with one ball, it travelled about 1/2 a club furher than i'm used to, but it still stopped very quickly. There was a little loss in short gme control, but it wasn't drastic and i soon learnt to deal with it. The most pesing thing however was that after 18 holes of good use the ball was still perfectly useable. It did have a couple of scuffs on it, but a hx tour 56 would only have probably lasted 9 holes of the same play. Overall i was very impressed. When the tour i comes over to england i will certainly give it a blast.
  12. Just because i didn't like it doesn't mean that it isn;t very good, on the contrary it is very good! I just didn't like it, nothing from stopping you getting it. I just feel that the looks of the dirver are way too radical, the original sq was just about ok, and i have got used to it, but a titleist driver suits my eye better, much like the mp600 or even the superquad, and i suspect when the time comes it will be one of these that i purchase to replace my current driver (not happening any time soon however!)
  13. The problem wasn't the hitting, it was the look, and as i am sure 99% of golfers would agree, look is of great importance, i hit my dad's r7 draw irons fine, but i don't like the look, why would i purchase something i don't like the look of? That's my problem.
  14. Thought i would create a thread to detail my experience and opinions of a free nike demo day at a local driving range. I went along, it was very quiet, only about 5 people there. I said i wanted to try drivers and wedges so was given a 56* to warm up with. I was actually hitting the ball really well. The real bonus was that all range balls were free! Warmed up through my clubs to my driver. I got called over onto the launch moniter and started with my driver. This was fit for me 2 years ago when i was playing off 20 so i was sure it wasn't correct anymore. After 10 good hits i averaged out at 14** launch and 4500rpm! Carry was 247, so not ideal. After this we went through the new sq round head (i hate square heads) with different shafts, all of which felt a lot whippier than my current one (more on this later). Again my stats were not great even though my ball striking was very good. Eventually he handed me a club and ssid, 'Don't look at it, just hit it.' My stats all of a sudden were 12.3* launch 2900 rpm, almost perfect and my carry was around the 265 makr with roll out up to 280. When i looked it was an aldila vs proto xs shaft and an 8.5* head! I really couln't believe it, the head and the shaft on my current club are absolutely miles out! Going back to the whippiness of the shafts, i discovered the reason for this is that the stock length is 45.75", and as far as i am concerned that is obscene! The Nike guy claimed it was due to the nfact that the clubhead was more stable so the extra length was controllable, i had to completely disagree! Overall it was great fun, but after hitting the new nike wedges (i have the original sv wedges not the sv tour) and the new SQ driver, i was completely unimpressed. The wedges performed no differently, and the driver looked hideous, made the worst noise in the world and was way too long! All in all, although my stats were great, any new driver i buy will not be a nike! I did get to hit around 150 balls for free though!
  15. I'm not trying to condone his behaviour in any way at all, it is unacceptable, but you must admit it must have looked pretty dodgy from his end when he looks at you and he sees you go, it wasn't me, and point to someone else. I'm not saying you were in the wrong here at all, but just saying from his point of view it may have looked a little dodgy. Alongside this, everyone has had their bad rounds when anything makes them angry and maybe this was just it for him. So what if he doesn't like photographers, just because he dresses like he does doesn;t automatically mean he loves the camera, and even if he does, it doesn't mean he loves it when he is playing. Surely the same could be said for people like woody austin who dresses in the most awful shirts, it is an extension of his personility, not necessarily that he loves cameras. I'm bound to get cussed for saying what i have just said, but hey! As i said, he was still way out of order in the way he acted
