  1. I did not have the privilege of playing junior golf (didn't start til Senior year of high school), so take my advice for what it's worth. I did play many sports from grade school on up, and I would imagine that the coach's are all looking for the same thing. They want someone that has potential for growth and a good attitude. Based on the fact that you usually shoot in the mid-40s, it sounds like the potential is there. You just need to make sure you take a good attitude with you to the course. If you hit a bad shot, just shake it off and hit your next one better. Also, it sounds like your golf coach is confident that you have what it takes to make it, so don't make yourself sick worrying about it. Just let you natural ability take over and keep the positive attitude.
  2. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a marshal actually do his job. Many of the courses I play seem to have given up the concept of a marshal altogether. At least that of a roaming marshall.
  3. Can you back up your claim that Tiger is obnoxious? I mean the media that covers him is extremely obnoxious, but I don't think he has any control over this. I guess he would probably lose some of the coverage if he quit winning everything. The Daly comment makes me think your reply was sarcastic.
  4. Blasphemy!!
  5. I'm was not questioning your knowledge of the course. I was simply saying that there is no need to call anybody out in this thread. This should be a happy place. (Yes, I see the irony that the last few posts have been a bit pointed)
  6. Cause this weather is pretty sad...
  7. Is the trolling really necessary? Even if it is an easy green to hit, you are killing the vibe of this thread by questioning the greatness of any of these shots.
  8. I joined the Bham tour last night! It looks like we are going to be different divisions, at least to begin with. It seems like I remember reading somewhere that they are going to adjust handicaps based on tournament scores. That said, I would expect there will still be some sandbagging the first few tournaments. Hopefully by June that won't be an issue.
  9. I root for Tiger because the things he does are simply magical. He is also a positive role model, so it is easy to root for him. As fanboyish as this sounds, I'm just glad that I have been able to watch the first half of his amazing career play out. I barely missed out on Michael Jordan's domination in basketball. My memories of him have been watching him try baseball and the second un-retirement.
  10. My fiance's grandfather got a hole in one this morning! Here is the wording from his email...
  11. What kind of prizes do they give for winning your flight? Are we talking about a dozen Pro-V1s or $100 pro shop credit? More, less?
  12. Tennesse will probably win. They are more battle-tested than Memphis. Don't get me wrong, it is very impressive that Memphis is still undefeated. I just feel like Tennessee is a more mature team based on the competition they have faced (even with the SEC being down this year).
  13. What do you think the best kind of hole in one is? I've never had one, but I hope that if I do I can watch the ball go in the hole.
  14. I've gone 26 holes without a triple bogey. By the way, the knocks on wood are implied; you can't use this thread as an excuse when your streak is broken.
  15. I think that golf is always going to be one of the first things to be touched when the economy slumps. It is a luxury that people really enjoy. However, when the money gets tight, putting the clubs down can save a ton of money ($50-$100+ per month for many people). Personally, I would never give up the game, but I would definitely cut back to playing once a month if my wallet was aching.
  16. The wet turf is a good point. It may be ideal to just pour a little bit of water on the turf when you start hitting.
  17. I've noticed that hitting balls fat on driving range mats have a minimal effect on the ball. When I chunk it, I might lose 15yds and still straight at the target. In real life (or on real grass rather), my chunked shots rarely go halfway to the target. I think the plastic mats just let the clubhead slide right over them, while the grass likes to grab on.
  18. I haven't seen any threads regarding this tour, so please direct me if this is a duplicate thread. Do any of ya'll play in this Amateur Tour? If so, what do you think about it? I've been playing golf a few years and I'm interested in the more competitive experience. The GCAT is pretty pricey, but it sounds like it is pretty well run.
  19. I have never heard of any ettiquette rules regarding this per se, but I would say the way you handled it was ideal. I believe this would fall under the respect your fellow golfers umbrella. You showed respect by "politely" resolving the situation, and they showed respect by allowing you to play in your rightful position on the course. This situation may not have worked out as well if ya'll had come out swinging, or if they had taken an aggressive mentality to it.
  20. www.eaglepointgolfclub.com my first real home club. Might be able to graduate to a private club later on in my career.
  21. On the 18th hole, I had 119 to the back right pin location on the top tier of the green with water on the right. Wind was coming in off of the water so I hit a little knockdown 9 iron with a little bit of a cut into the wind. The ball bounced once about 6 inches right in front of the hole and checked about 3 feet behind the hole. It had looked good the whole way, and I thought I was going to get my first eagle. I was able to kick in the birdie putt to end the round on high note.
