  2. The Wolf is the signature course at Paiute and deservedly so. Keep it in the green, as the desert will comsume any ball that gets astray. And yes, I'm a Ram living in the Cowboy State, which creates its share of bar fights! Go Rams!!
  3. Played Wolf Creek last spring. Definite bucket list course. Coyote Springs the next day was a letdown, especially considering the drive to get there, double-wide clubhouse with chewy sandwiches and ambivalent staff. Oasis and Conestoga in Mesquite were both nice, acceptable courses. Not awesome, but good values for the dollar. We played all 54 at Paiute in November. Loved them and would do it again in a heartbeat. Good value and memorable. Very well-maintained. A little remote, but an easy drive. Plane delay allowed us to sneak in Bear's Best the last day. Average condition, but my first "replica course" and we had a blast. I was shooting a career round when the sun totally disappeared on 16 and we had to quit. Everyone in our group ha a ball playing there , although the staff was kinda bleh. Hope that can help folks pick a course or two!!
  4. From my personal experience, I would advise buying a nice used set of game improvent irons. Pretty cost effective... Use them until your swing has some consistency. Set a goal. "I will get new irons when I break 90." Or something similar... You will learn, set a goal and feed your competitive spirit. You will also save enough to pay for three or four lessons! My $0.02. If it works you can buy me a beer someday. If not, I will buy you one. Can ya beat that deal?
  5. Just came back from three days in Vegas. All three Paiute courses were great. Bear's Best was also really fun. I'd play all the above again in a heartbeat, but for the $ prefer the Paiute courses. Played Wolf Creek last spring and it is everything you read about. Everyone's Bucket List should include Wolf Creek.
  6. Very, very helpful! Thanks:-)
  7. I need more info how this looks... Maybe I'm just having a brain block??:8)
  8. Weird phobia: I have to find a broken tee for irons and hybrids off the tee box! Anything else throws the earth off its axis!
  9. 305 yard par four, cart path starts about 225... Men's league night. Foursome ahead putting, but I'm WAY safe. Right?!?! I hit 3W, as I'm no big stick and just trying to get to the right yardage for approach. My slicing ball hits the VERY corner of the cart path on the fly, comes back across the fairway at an almost 45* angle and splits the guys at the flag shoulder high on the very long next bounce and clears the green by 10 yards. I apologized with all the vocabulary I have, but their version of the story remains that I hit through them with the longest drive ever. What are friends for if not to give you a hard time all the time, right?? I'm constantly reminded that it is a "drivable par four". Uhhhmmm, No.
  10. Colorado State University Ram!! I always have to cheer for Martin Laird
  11. Back to what I think was the OP's topic... Beech Nut leaf tobacco. I just find it relaxing. Oddly, two of my playing partners chaw the stuff too?!?! No spitting, etc... I'd be a huge hypocrite to spit because of how bad I go off on sunflower seeds and cigarette butts laying around tee boxes and greens. For some reason it helps me chill out. And has for 25 years and going...
  12. Thanks for the response. Confirms my suspicions. If it is too good to be true...
  13. Anyone buy from this place? Prices seem too good to be true..
  14. Age: 42 Height: 5'10" Where are your from: Aladdin, WY How long have you been playing: 3 years Best score: 89 Favorite club in the bag: 7 Iron Golf books/DVDs that have helped you: Ben Hogan's book, Tom Watson's "Lessons of a Lifetime" Where do you play: SD, WY, CO Best courses you've played so far: TPC-Scottsdale, Gold Canyon in Scottsdale, Powderhorn in Sheridan, WY Things you enjoy most about golf: Being outdoors, trash talking with other players and believing your next shot could be your best one ever. Goals for 2013: Break 90 on a more consistent basis and get my kids interested in this intriguing game.
  15. I was paired with a 9 Vandicap that played mid-teens... His partner was a 20 HC and was pushing him every hole. 'Vandi' tops about his fourth drive in a row trying to pound it 345 and his partner observes "You clubbed that one like a baby seal." I laughed until the tears ran. Timing is everything and this guy was Johnny Carson on that one.
  16. "Be the club!" I'm definitely adding that to my repertoire of witty/sarcastic observations.
  17. One of my playing partners has AP1's vs. my AP2's. Easier to hit? Yes, likely so. Prettier to look down at? No. Decidedly so. Mishits don't hurt with the '1's, while toed and thin shots (especially if it is under 40* out!!) will make your wrists tingle with the '2's. BUT- Hit one well with the '2's and you will walk taller and more confidently for a couple holes. You can just feel perfection when the ball is struck well. Get the AP2's. I predict you will love them. ps- We play a lot together and swing each other's clubs for the hell of it at the range or on the course, etc... There is likely minimal performance difference at my skill level with either set of clubs, but I certainly like looking down at the AP2's more. my $0.02 opinion. Pay me later-
  18. I'm very loyal. As long as a ball sticks with me, I'll stick with them! But that usually doesn't last too long... Sometimes I can keep a single ball in play for a full round, only to lose three on the next three holes?!?! I'm not sure if I'm making the decision or they are.
  19. +1 I was a 36 two years ago. Play, range time, play, practice and play have helped me cut that almost in half. I have awesome days now to help offset the really bad. We are ALL horrible at some point. Some people were horrible at 11 years of age. Some of us at 38. Put in the time, be patient, use your head and it'll get better and better. And it'll be more fun!!
  20. I rec'd my bag tag and ball marker FAST! With an extra bag tag!! They look great and I'll use them with pride. Thanks for the great product
  21. Yes! To both!
  22. Yes! To both!
  23. My goal is to play a round with Lauren Thompson.
  24. Count me in! I run in minimalist shoes and have become a fan. I'll be sporting these as soon as they are available for purchase . In black... and brown... and???
  25. Bahahaha... That made me spit beer.
