Want to Upgrade Irons from Callaway X12 Pro
hacker101 replied to dpsmith22's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My son got them first after hitting everything in RD, it came down to the Apex that he really liked and I would have spent the money on or the Cobra Bio Cell. At the end of the day and spending about and hour or two on the monitor it came down to the Cobra. About 3 yards more average and better grouping. I can say that they want to go straight and they have a high launch with the 85 shaft on them, they come off the face hot but that is most of the new clubs. The look at address is nice the back you get used to and look better then in the pictures. They have shaft, lie and grip options as well as you can change the configuration of the set when you order at RD, and you get a 90 day play, bring back if you don't like them. My son had them in reg flex but has taken them back for stiff, they are on order with a different grip he wanted. I was able to play them a little in PS this past weekend , I liked them so I ordered a set with 4, 5 hybrid, 6-lob. I only have a loner set that I took to the range yesterday. I can say they swing nice are a little light or feel light not sure, holding them to other clubs they all feel about the same? But that also seems to be more across the board with all the new GI irons, I don't know if one brand is better then any others at this time so I would think it comes down to what you like. All the brands seem to have a really great iron out, all seem to have a hot face other then Ping and Mizuno, again in MHO and all have the lofts jacked up a bit. Talking with Lihu last night I don't see this as a bad thing some may but it comes down to how you control your irons as I see it. Again coming from an 18 HCP person take it for what it is worth. Will my son still opt to get the Apex not sure at this point but he has 90 days to make up his mind. Good luck with what ever you find I am sure you find what you like. -
Ha-Ha mine always says better out then in.

JPX 825 Pro's vs JPX EZ forged?
hacker101 replied to Jakester23's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I feel you there, I was on a slow road to playing in the mid 80's consistently then my swing went to shit and I am back to low to mid 90's. It was like a light was turned off so I am back at GI irons that will just give me a bit more push. I know 10 plus yards my not be a lot for some per iron but it is for me, it is the difference in getting me up around the greens with an iron I can control. I also don't believe in buying a club I can work my way into. I play clubs that will get me to a point and change the set out, for a small amount. I have a goal to get to a point I can play an Apex or I25 iron but that is not today. -

I don't have the swing for the Apex my son does now, but he was just getting more out of the Cobra irons, not a lot but some so at $400 more it did not seem worth it? But he really liked them and still may go back and use the 90 day return for them, his swing gets better every day. The X2 Hot are nice and really grow on you, my father in law tried a 7 iron reg this weekend in PS and really liked those. So as I said I don't think you can go wrong with what ever you decide you like at $500 or $1000. I wish I could swing more a players iron, I like the look so much more. -

JPX are running $899 so if you are going that high check the Apex, very nice. My son and I have no cap on what to spend at the end of the day it is what you like. -

There are a lot of really great clubs out on the market and it sounds like you have enough to spend on most of them if you are looking at the JPX line. Good luck on what ever you decide and have fun! -

I did not try the JPX 825 but did the JPX EZ Sunday when I was at RD trying new irons out. That club is what is states very easy to hit, what I found it was not the longest club out on the market (it was a bit short for my swing) but it did have a very nice balance and feel IMO. If you are going to get fit for a new set why not sit and hit every club they have and narrow it down? I believe it should not matter the brand, you should go by how you like the clubs/shafts and what the numbers show. The club you may not even think about maybe the club you like the most. I was in PS this past weekend and was playing my sons irons a new set of Cobra Bio Cells, these were not even on my list but after playing them and noticed how much further and more consistent I hit them over my Pings went in to RD to put them through the test along with a dozen others, in the end I ordered a new set. Take it for what it is worth, I am only an 18 HCP player. -
I like to grab a dog and a soda most of the time, will call it in so we don't hold anyone up. But it seems right now the courses are so backed up it really does not matter if we stop and order. Last Sunday 50% of the course had min 2 groups waiting on every hole, we played 16 in a little over 5 hours and finally had to leave.

Speedbladz, RocketBladz etc. Can they be flattened?

Just sent you a PM with my number talk to you soon. -

Only person I deal with there is Benny, he takes the time and understands how to read the numbers, he gives you options and narrows it down. If you decide to see him tell him you know Justin and myself. Matter of fact we will be there next weekend Justin is looking at new wedges, he is only playing two a 50 and 56 time to revisit. -

Simulator, different heads with +/- lies, different shafts as well lie board. I know my swing is very steep and I have a problem coming from out to in some, so I drag the toe at impact. But what I like is I am working on all this and RD has a 90 day play and return if you don't like what you got or fitting is not correct. I only go to one person who has fit mine and Justin's with all our clubs over the last two years. Also put them up against my Pings on average about 10 yards longer much more consistent grouping. -
Anyone else been playing forever without a hole in one?

Never, been close, I have not even seen one. -

Hey iacas, it also have to do with how you come through at time of impact correct? This past weekend I was fit for a new set of irons I am at 2* up and only 5'8. -

I guess for me I play GI/SGI irons with offset so looking down at them and set up is much more easy and they swing close to the same. One day I would like to be able to swing an I25 or Apex style iron but it is not today, I need all the help I can get! -

hacker101 replied to Lihu's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Bummer, have you had your lie checked with the clubs you are looking at? I ask because when I got a fitted for my X2Hot last week they showed I was standard now, big difference from 1.5 up? I am still a bit concerned that is not correct and will have them check it again when they come in, had an added wrap on the grips. But you do get a 90 return or adjustment from RD. Not a big fan or working myself into a club golf is to darn hard as it is but JMHO of course. The good thing is you can change clubs now days with all the deals and coupons for very little in an up charge. -

Call the one in Santa Ana they have the equipment, I have seen them bend cast clubs there. I would also ask them about ordering from TM, I have never heard that you could not get a sale price on a special order before. I never shop at GS unless it is for balls, gloves or small stuff they are not very helpful. -

Lihu I know I was playing my Pings at 1.5* upright but went in and ordered a set of X2Hot that are standard. I would go back and find a different person and don't just go by what you have been playing. Like you my swing has changed over the past two years. Remember as we get older we shrink...ha-ha we are both old guys! -
Did you pay with a Credit Card? If so call the Credit Card company and have them put in a dispute/hold on the funds for this order. Not sure in Ireland but it is against the law in the US to bill a Cc until the order ships they can put a hold on the funds until the order ships but that is all they can do.

Share Your Personal Course Pictures
hacker101 replied to KingG's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
The course is built in a gated and guarded community. 18th Hole, top of the hill, you could swing as hard as you wanted the landing was as wide as a stadium, but dog legged right up the side of the hill. Here is a course call Vellano that is a private country club in Chino, we were able to play it, it was a birthday gift. All I can say was the view was great but the course was an a$$ kicker, as you can see my son way not having a good round. For the most part half the course had views, but narrow fairways, you could keep your ball in play by either staying in the fairway or playing to the side of the hill the hole ran. But anything other then that your ball was gone in the trees, down the opposite side of the fairway, this was due to being built on the side of the mountain. Still I had a fun day with my son, but not a course I would jump to play again, well set up for a low HCP person not one that is 18. -
My son now thinks golf is a waste of his time
hacker101 replied to Chanceman's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I think you are missing the point, (I am sure I will also at some point with my 16 year old son). It sounds like you and your son have spend a lot of time together, but this is how it should be. He is finding his way as a young man and as much as we father hate to come to the realization they grow up. I hope that at some point your son will see value in playing with you as I hope mine will also. My son and I have done everything together, Cub and boy scouts, now golfing every week. But as I said he is a young man and girls are becoming more and more important as is school if he plans to get in to Cal-tech or MIT. Like Lihu my son plays for the school so for now I am just enjoying the ride, knowing it will come to an end. Good luck as all us fathers who have time with our sons will need, be happy he is in to books and not drugs. -
X2 Hot Irons the good and the bad
hacker101 replied to hacker101's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks johnclayton1982, they just seem like a lot of fun, my Pings are feeling like a lot of work latly. I know my Pings are out of wake and need to be re-adjusted so that could be why I am looking to change. I had just heard about hot spots meaning there is no distance control, hard to tell on the monitor but they where going a bit further then my Pings and yes I know they are stronger lofts but felt nice when hitting them. I just hate changing clubs there is always that period it takes to break in new ones, but I ordered on a whim.
