  1. My home club is the Royce Brook Golf Club ( www.roycebrook.com ). I joined this year and I absolutely love it. It was built in 2002 and is designed by Steve Smyers. It has a really unique look to it (think inland grass/heathland) and is not like anything in NJ which is mostly parkland courses. It is a very difficult course if you find yourself in the bunkers or on the wrong side of the greens. The front 9 is very much like a links with no trees and lots of bunkers. Most of these holes require you to hit draws off the tee but they are not always necessary. The back 9 is very difficult to score well on and hold some of the bigger holes and bigger sand traps. They are not only longer but hold more of the property as well. The 15th hole is one of the most difficult par 4's I have ever played on. It is 440 yards slightly uphill and the fairway wraps around huge, deep cross bunkers the run up the entire right side and an environmental hazard runs down the firsst 150 yards to the left. Once you find the fairway your approach shot is brutal with deep bunkers short and left of the green and long and right of the green. A high draw is the best play here. I've only parred it a few times mostly scoring bogeys. MSchott..check out www.golfclubatlas.com for talk about design. They have write ups about many top courses as well as a discussion group with many top designers that regularly comment (Tom Doak for example).
  2. When I was a mid to late teen my father and I always butted heads with arguments based on logic or how we thought things worked. He thought he was right and I did too so that never worked out. My mother always told me that that is how all the men on my dad's side of the family are and that it's the german stubbornness lol. I went off to college and we both cooled down and I realized that sometimes it's just better to not get into arguments about nothing. Now that I'm in my mid 20's I sometimes catch myself being stubborn when talking to my gf and she gets very frustrated sometimes and I have to take myself out of the situation and calm myself down and not be like that. Now that I've just calmed down and not looked to prove my dad wrong our relationship has gotten better and he's very happy about that since his brother and son (my uncle and cousin) got very bad and they didn't speak for a few months.
  3. The seventh hole at my new club is the first course I've played with a driveable par 4. It is very difficult to land the ball on the green because of the deep bunkers in front of the green and the pot bunker behind it. Long and left is dead because of a very difficult pitch shot from rough or fescue. The hole plays 310 from the tips (blue) but I play the greens 1 ahead and is 290. It is also difficult to get the ball to fade off the slope at the same angle the green is set at. I usually hit a punch cut up the left side or a draw off the right bunkers that are 275 out depending on the wind. Birdie is never guaranteed because the green is fast with many slopes.
  4. If you play a lot of golf than the benefit of being a member becomes more of how much you enjoy your golf than how much it costs. Like OB said you have to know if it's a golf club or country club. Country clubs have other things to do besides golf too. I was a member of a place that called itself a C.C. but it wasn't anything close to it. I just joined because for the $$ it was a no brainer and I got a lot better. This year I joined a golf club that has 2 courses (one private the other semi). The private member's course is unlike anything you'll find in NJ. It definitely could host a PGA or Nationwide event and had held many NJ state amateur tourneys as well. I feel like I am going to play a tournament course every time I show up and the staff is very professional and calls Mr. They allow walking at any time and it is a pleasure to walk the course. My advice is to call up the membership director and tell them you are interested for the 2011 golf season. They might just let you play for the rest of this year for no additional cost or a small down payment toward the total dues for 2011. If you have family how much would it cost for them to play/ enjoy the other amenities at the club? Are there member tournaments? Is there a practice range? Can you make tee times or is it show up and get set up in a group? These are a few things you need to know before paying. Good luck!!
  5. This is my new home club www.roycebrook.com
  6. I have a Droid and used the 24 hour trial that GolfLogix was offering and loved it. I also tried nRange which gave you aerial views via Google Earth and you could touch the screen and it would give you yardages and the front/center/back of each green but when trying to get the cursor to certain spots it was tricky and cumbersome. It was more tedious and time consuming whereas GolfLogix, you just turn on the screen and you can see all the important yardages. I turned the screen off once I got my yardage and over 18 holes I had 55% battery life remaining which is pretty good. I bought the GolfLogix yesterday and will see how good all the other features are as well.
  7. I do P90X and that is a great leg workout. Ever since starting it my balance is infinitely better. I used to fall over my left leg because of atrophy from a year long surgery rehab when I was a kid (I'm 23 now) and I am in near perfect balance everytime.
  8. Denver, I played 45 holes this weekend and it's not easy at all. From the blue tees, it's just shy of 6600 yards (72.8/134) and from the black it's 7005 (74.8/137) and requires you to shape the ball both ways. There are lots of bunkers and hazards too, four consecutive holes on the back 9 play through and around a huge pond. The course was renovated last year but I wasn't a member then so I wouldn't know what it was like before but the older members say that the course is much better. Personally I love the course and so far I am very happy with my decision to join.
  9. It's $1500 and that's it. That gets you unlimited green fees and practice use (no xtra charge for balls). Only other charges are cart, locker and handicap service.
  10. PM sent. I joined this past weekend at Glenwood and loved it.
  11. I just joined this club last week and got a sweet deal since I'm only 23. Course is really difficult witl lots of doglegs and bunkers. From the blues it's 72.8/134 and from the blacks(tips) it's 74.0/137, check it out. http://www.njgolfclub.com/
  12. I used to use whatever grip came with the club but now I really love the Golf Pride Tour Velvet. I prefer a tacky, high friction grip.
  13. I absolutely love my FT-3. Currently it has an Aldila NV 65S in it but this week I just oredered a Mitsubishi Bassara 73S and loved it when I was demoing it over the weekend.
  14. Got a 56* Mizuno MP-R for free when I bought my MP-67's and loved it, especially the shape and that amazing grind on the sole. I recently replaced my Vokey 52 & 60 with the MP-R and love them a lot. The 56* is so easy to get out of the bunker with because of that grind.
