  1. I have been playing Callaway HX Hot Bite's and they seem to be well performing balls, but still are a little pricey. I have heard that the Tour Deep's are as good as the HX Tour's but I have never had a chance to try them. I see they are $25 a dozen at TGW and I am thinking about buying a dozen there, or if I can find some at my local store. What do you guys think about the Tour Deep's? I like a soft ball that I can work around the greens that also has some decent distance. Thanks
  2. I have heard that the Tour Deep's are very similar if not exactly the same as the HX Tour's. I am going to purchase some Hogan Tour Deep's and see if they suit my style of play. At $25 you can't go wrong.
  3. It's the White Hot XG #9 but I believe it is customized specifically for him. Maybe the black series is more similar to his.
  4. Mizuno mp-57's maybe? They are semi cavity backs which give the control of a blade and the forgiveness of a cavity back. Try them all and decide from there.
  5. I would geuss that you are opening your clubface at impact and you are going too far inside-out. I personally like pushing the ball out a little bit and having a nice little draw on it.
  6. When I really want to hit the ball as far as I can, the main thing I think about is taking a swing about parallel and keeping my head still throughout the swing. I tend to unfocus when I try and kill the ball, but by taking a decent swing(never past parallel) and keeping my head still I seem to have good success. I never really try and kill the ball on the course, because I tend to swing short and slow. Also, working out is not going to increase your distance much if at all. There is a kid at my range that drives the ball on average about 300-310 and he is one of the skinniest kids I know. It's a proper weight transfer and proper swing mechanics that will get you to drive the ball extremely far.
  7. I personally use the Odyssey White Hot XG #9. I had my doubts about it but I finally realized that it's not the putter, it's the putter. In my opinion a putter that has good balance will perform well with someone who is good at putting. I would rather invest in a putting training device than a new "Cutting Edge" putter.
  8. I have callouses just below my right and left pinky's and all across the top of my palm. I got blisters my first few months of playing and then finally formed nice callouses which stop bad blisters from forming. I believe a study showed that 90% of all golfers hold the club too tight which will also form blisters. My recommendation: Form some callouses and hold the club looser, but not too loose.

    Cleaning Grips

I have had my clubs for about 8 months now and I have yet to actually "clean" the grips. I have heard that you use warm water, soap, and a towel and lightly rub the grip and then wash and dry. Is there a chance that my grip would come off being very slick and almost slippery from the soap? If anyone has cleaned their grips please tell me what I should expect. Thanks
  10. For fundamentals, work with a pro. For mental game, it doesn't get any better than Dr. Bob Rotella's Golf is a Game of Confidence . I have found this book to be shaving strokes off my game by listening to his tips about how to think while playing. It is really a great book, and I recommend it to anyone that is a moderately high handicap, because I guarantee your mental game is not perfect. Mine wasn't, and still isn't, but this book is helping a lot.
  11. I appreciate the replys. I was out at the range today and working on this with approach shots, and I realized that with my new cleveland wedges I could almost make the ball stop. I don't want to really "suck" the shot back, which seems to be very hard, but I was hitting approach shots that would bounce and then really slow down and only roll a few feet. It worked out well, now I think I have some more control on my approach shots and I can play the ball where I want it.
  12. When I start having problems with pushing the ball or hooking I go to position 1, which is just less than a half swing and try and get my feel back. If you work your way up and align correctly, you should have this fixed in one outing to the range.
  13. I doubt that you would be drives because you don't have a stiff shaft, but I suppose that could be a problem, unless your swing speed is substantially high. I personally use a regular shaft driver and when I begin hooking the ball it is generally because I am turning my hands over too much. Think of driving a car, the more you turn the wheel to the left the more you will turn the car. I have to dial-in how much I want to turn to make the ball draw slightly, just how I prefer to hit my drives.
  14. Simpac golf... They aren't really underrated, but they are a new company that is nearly unheard of.
  15. Never used the #4. I have the #9 and I am actually not crazy about it. All I can say is don't rush into purchasing a putter because you may regret it in the future.
  16. Simpac S-Cube ST58 is what I find to be the longest 3 wood I've hit. I hear the exotics are the best out there, but never hit them.
  17. A sleeve of HX Hot Bite's and some tee's.
  18. Either: A- You're teeing the ball down too low B- You're playing the ball too bar back in your stance C- You're lunging at the ball and throwing your weight ahead too fast These are the three problems I have personally had and generally just by thinking about keeping my head still and teeing the ball up decently works fine.
  19. I already posted, but all I can really tell you that you "need" at this moment would be a hybrid(s). You should go to your shop or a demo day and try out all the hybrids they have. Decide from there. I have a cobra baffler dws 2007 model and I love both of them. Always straight, high, and far.
  20. In my opinion the best hybrids I have used are the King Cobra Baffler DWS. They have the best feel in my hands, and I play graphite shafted hybrids. Not sure why I choose graphite, but I got a graphite 3,4 hybrid and I love them. I would, however, like to try steel shafted hybrids and see how they work out.
  21. 290. This was on a flat, downwind par 4. No downhill courses where I live =(.
  22. Both of you are correct, and I do not plan on using this shot frequently, but in situations where I am going over a bunker with a close pin, I might use it. Even my golf pro says that he doesn't play a "spin back" shot because even he finds the rewards not as good as the risks. I would however, like to limit the roll on some super fast greens I play, that are extremely hard with a low rolling shot.
  23. For the most part the 2 iron is obsolete, and I haven't played with anyone that would consider putting one in their bag. I personally use a 3 wood, and start my irons at my 3 hybrid. I don't see the need to have a 2 iron, and would probably rather have a 5 wood. In my opinion, get the 3,4 hybrids and sell the 2,3,4 irons. You could probably get $50 for those three clubs and pick up some reasonably priced hybrids. I find that hybrids are really hard to mis hit, and even if I do I can still get the ball flying high and far. I will say though, it's very hard to punch a low line drive with hybrids, but thats what my 5 irons for.
  24. Thanks a lot Jkilgore44, that is exactly what I have been looking for. I am going to see how my dads Cleveland 588 RTG wedges work, and consider putting them in my bag. Only thing is, I don't think they have the forgiveness of my Cobra FP's.
