I installed a ring doorbell a few years ago. It’s actually quite nice in terms of being able to see what’s happening at our house while we are away. Obviously, you see Interesting things. I have many examples of things that were amazing, but the craziest one was watching a fox maul a squirrel in my front yard. I had to dispose the remains of the squirrel so I could mow my lawn. I was shocked when I saw the video. What interesting/crazy thing have you seen on your home camera?

Thanks for the response. I mocked posting a score, and it showed an X for a GIR on a hole that I left blank. i have an email to them to see if my GIR numbers will still be out of 18 holes, or 17 holes. I’m guessing your suggestion to leave it blank will do the trick.

Bumping this thread. I started entering my scores with all stats last year and am currently doing it. I think it’s nice, because I don’t keep a computer spreadsheet of all my rounds. I have 1 complaint about the GHIN stat tracking…. I think my GIR stats are skewed. If I hit a drive OB, I have to indicate why I missed a GIR (short, long, left, right). What do I put? A more common example is if I hit a drive into a terrible position and have absolutely NO CHANCE of going for the green. I then punch out and go for the green at that point. Well, on my stats, I just indicate my GIR was missed short. That’s where my stats are skewed. My GIR % right now is 46%. It shows my biggest miss is short (26%). I wish they would add a category for the drive. As well as left and right, add a button that says something like “no chance for GIR”. That would do 2 things. First, it would tell me how many drives were SO BAD, I had no shot at a GIR. Second, it would more accurately give me my misses for a GIR opportunity.

I have golfed for 20+ years and have never had a HIO - been close many many times, but it has never happened. I witnessed a player in my group that hit a low screamer from 120 yds. It must flown 80-ish yards , bounced, bounced, rolled, rolled, and went in. We all yelled and tried to give him accolades. He was beside himself and said he didn’t deserve it, and just kept saying how bad the shot was. It was his 2nd HIO. How many of you have gotten a HIO that was obviously not deserved based on your shot? And, do you poo- poo it? I now (if I ever get one) want to have a great story about how it happened. Just hitting a beautiful shot is a boring.

This is very personal and likely not relatable, but I play with a group that usually has 6 to 12 people show up on any given weekend. Most of them ride, but some of us walk. If I end up as a 3-some with certain people that ride (very specific people) it can be weird. We will all hit drives. The other guys hit their approach shots before I even get to my ball (my club allows them to use separate carts). I then hit my approach shot. Let’s say I hit the green…. The other two players will have already chipped and putted out before I even get to the green. So I am just putting with them standing next to their carts, itching to get to the next tee box. We usually play 18 holes as a 3-some in around 3 hours (2:45 to 3:15). So, I generally like to have another walker with me. The funny thing is, I am the low handicap in my group by about 5 strokes. Even though it’s not kosher, I’ll sometimes putt out on the green when I get a chance while they are getting ready to hit their 5th shot from 100 yds. Tit-for-tat, I guess. I’ve suggested to them many times to just play as a 2-some, but they never do. Nobody else likes to play with them, but I am the only other player that plays from their tee boxes. None of the other cart riders in our group are that rude. They usually respect a walkers pace and are not sprinting in their carts to finish as fast as they can.

It’s all good, but you are a hypocrite. If someone plays against the rules of golf, in your opinion, they are playing something other than golf. On real world topics, YOU define what theft is and you stand behind it, no matter what the true definition is. I knew you would not retract calling me a thief. I get it. You run this place.

Ok. I am out. The next time I am there, I will give them $.54 and not take advantage of them not asking me any questions in the future (this is the only time I’ve ever done this). I would appreciate an apology for being called a thief and accused of stealing. I mean, come on iacas, you say golf is not golf if not played by the definition of the rules. This situation is not theft based on the definition. I’ll bet your ego will not allow you to apologize to me today for calling me a thief.

I do appreciate the principles involved. Two people disagree, call me a thief, and accuse me of stealing. I’ve never stole a thing in my life. I gave you the definition of stealing (which, BTW is the definition of theft), but you can’t even recognize that what happened in my situation is not that. Hell you thought it would be “stealing” if you got $20 from someone at a gas station. iacas won’t recognize he was uneducated on that topic, either. So now, no member dare say anything different, so who cares.

Your first question is an obvious no. You’d be a panhandler and anyone that gives you money is doing it without knowing you drive a Mercedes and live in a modest house (not necessarily you, but many panhandlers). Here’s the definition of stealing: the action or offense of taking another person's property without permission or legal right and without intending to return it; theft. "they argue that copying licensed software is a form of stealing” I own a business as well. I understand how expenses work. I appreciate you trying to educate me on that, though. I literally didn’t go in there to “steal” from them. The employee handed me two packets and waved on the person behind me to take their order. If I lose this poll (I.e. voted unethical) I will go to the McD’s and give them the $.54. Not for nothing, but I have a wife and 3 girls. A $60 trip to McD’s is not uncommon once a week.

Stupid debate that I will set a poll up for. The other day, I bought fiery chicken nuggets at Burger King. I don’t like any of the BK sauces, so I then drove next door to McDonald’s, went inside, and said that I have nuggets but no sauce. They gave me two packets of spicy mustard sauce (which is my favorite). My wife said I was unethical doing that. I debated her. At McD’s, I never said I bought THEIR nuggets or that they shorted me sauce. I simply said I HAD nuggets and needed sauce. If they simply ASSUMED they shorted me and did not ask any clarifying questions, who am I to argue getting the sauces for free? What say you?

This is spot on! It’s frustrating having no broken tees laying on a tee box and then you just proceed breaking a new one anyway.

I agree with most of the posts so far. One of my biggest irritations (which may or may not be deemed an etiquette issue) is playing with someone that gets really pissed off at themselves while playing badly, sulks around cursing himself out, and just kills the vibe of the group. C’mon man, it’s just a game and none of us are THAT good to be so mad at ourselves for a bad round (at least none of us within the group I play with). These guys are the players that others cringe when they see they’ve been paired up with them.

40/36…... Golf is weird. On Sunday I shot +5 on the front (par 35) and -1 on the back (par 37) for a +4 76 round. I'm sure we all have those rounds where one side is dramatically different from the other. Why in the heck does this happen? I have no clue if it was just luck, or I "checked out" starting the back and stopped thinking too much, or what. I've obviously done the opposite, where my front nine was great and l've blown up on the back. I don't care if your scores are 56/42 or 32/38. But I would love to here others share their "tale of two nines" and whether you have any clue why that happened. I hope this is not a duplicate thread. I couldn’t find an existing one.

I don’t know if you are being snarky, but I’ll assume you were earnest. I do have an 8 handicap. I played pro v1’s for years. I have been playing the Vice all this year. In my experience, there is no difference in performance (spin,distance, durability). The performance and price has me convinced it’s just as good as the Pro V’s. On top of that, they ship direct to the customer. No retailer involved, so the prices are way cheaper. I was just hoping that Erik, or someone on his staff could try it and give their opinion.

I would love if the sand trap guys would test a Vice ball. All the reviews say they perform the same or better as pro v1’s. If you buy in bulk, you can get them $20 per dozen cheaper than pro V’s. Don’t know if the Sand Trap has a sponsorship with Titelist, but if they don’t and find out the vice balls are just as good, it might be something to look into.

Exactly. It is really hard to have the opportunity to do this, but since we can’t post a score while playing solo, I thought it was a good exercise. Kind of like when folks recommend playing from the most forward tees if you can, just to get the feel of scoring lower.

You might be surprised. Even par is one off of my personal best. I’m sure I could do this 10 rounds and have scores all over the place (anywhere from a 70 to an 80). It is kind of about being lucky. For example, on one par 5, I hit a good drive, had about 280 to the green, and proceeded to block a 3 wood lay-up into the trees right. I would have had to punch out sideways from there. I used a mulligan, hit the fairway, had 60 yds left to the flag, and birdied the hole. I figure that was at least a 1 or 2 shot gain. I know a lot of guys wouldn’t enjoy trying this because it’s “not real golf”, but to me it just felt good to see what could have been.

I saw a YouTuber (Rick Shiels) post a video where he played a round using 10 mulligans. I think his goal was to break 65. In my area, we got about an inch of rain overnight, but the rain ended at 9:00 this morning. No one I play with came out to the course because they were not letting carts out. So, I decided to play solo and try the 10 mulligan thing (I can’t post a score playing solo, so who cares). I was the first person on the course, so I had a wide open course. Results? I used 4 of my mulligans on makeable putts that I missed initially. That gained me 3 strokes (I still missed one). I used 1 mulligan on a par 3 tee shot, which probably saved me a shot as my initial shot was pulled and I would have been short-sided pitching over a bunker. I parred the hole with my mulligan. 3 mulligans on drives (two of those were used on the same hole). The last 2 mulligans were on approach shots. I shot an even par 72. Looking at the round, I’m guessing it would have been at least a 79 with no mulligans. Having an open course, it was kind of fun to do. It also showed me that if I could just eliminate some bad shots, I could score well. Kind of fun! Obviously, you couldn’t do this on a packed course, but I recommend trying it.

Just curious…. I use a push cart while walking. I am a healthy person. in your opinion, am I lazy?

The guys I play with are great! I have no complaints about that. You are correct, we still chat plenty, so it’s not like I feel like a total outsider. Not sure if it’s a good thing for me to have more time to think about my next shot 🫤 This is a good recap of what i feel. It’s weird, if there were a number a foursomes that went out before we do at 8:30, it’s rare that we ever get out of position (sans searching for a lost ball or something and have to catch up on the next hole). So, I know I’m not slowing us up, but mentally it just makes me feel like I need to speed up. Another walker with me, as you said, just makes me not worry about what the cart riders are thinking.

As I’ve gotten older, I have become the only walker in my group of guys (15 or so). I don’t hold things up walking, but it’s just different than before. It used to be chatting with a golf friend as we get to our balls, but now it’s just huffing it toward the two carts. We always play in 3:45 or less and never lag behind the group in front. I don’t know…. I just miss the times when we all walked. In a weird way, it makes me feel like the comradery isn’t there. I know some of the guys have to ride for health reasons, but golf is not as enjoyable to me now. Anyone else in my situation? Or if you ride and have a single Walker, does that frustrate you?

I know this is an old topic, but I would say “heck no” on a gratuity. I literally just re-gripped my clubs last week. I wanted to support my golf club, so I asked what they would charge. For a Winn Dri-Tac, it would have been $12 per club. I told them I put them on myself, but they said the charge was the same whether they put it on, or I did. I got the grips elsewhere for $7.00 and did it myself. Mind you, I already had grip tape and solution to use. I’m guessing they mark the prices up enough to cover their labor charges. On a side note, I find re-gripping my clubs to be satisfying. In a weird way, it makes me feel like I am taking care of my clubs. It’s fairly simple and I don’t even use a vice or an air compressor. Yeah, it might take me 2 hours to do it by the time I get all the old tape off and clean the shaft, but it’s just soothing to me.
