I got to play Pebble Beach today. What a treat. amazing course. Shot a 90 and it was mostly well earned. I doubled the first two holes mostly out of shear nerves and then settled down into bogies and pars with a few other doubles. The course is a amazing. Many holes have zero bail out - straight ocean cliff. I had a kick ass driving day - not one bad drive which helped because the approaches are no joke. Many bunkers have 6-10 foot faces and the greens are the size of postage stamps. the winds can be fierce as well. I thought the most interesting / difficult part of the course was reading the greens. We took a Caddy which I was the best decision we could have made. The breaks are hard to see and visually unbelievable...as in...you swear up and down your going down hill but you are in fact level or even going uphill. Made par on on 17 too which was awesome - stuffed a 7 iron but couldn't convert... great course! I'll try to post some pics Andrew

yea that makes a ton of sense to me. I played yesterday and hit some mega drives where I really felt my arms and and hands were really in front of my body thru and after impact...is that what you mean? It seems to be more about having my hands really in front of my body at all times that really promotes a sweeter contact that's powerful... this is what you mean right?? I mean, at least, it seems to lead to that extended thru impact feeling.

hi all - hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I have always thought holding your wrist angle stores power through helping to create lag. While I have heard Jack Nicklaus say many times that you can't un- cock your wrists too early with a driver - I tended to believe the other thought that holding wrist angle creates power through lag. Ok - so yesterday I was working at the range before playing and I accidentally discovered that releasing my hinge a little bit as I am unwinding created a much more powerful boring strike and draw. I usually carry the ball the about 245 to 250 and I went and played after this range work yesterday and was hitting drives that seemed to carry about 265 and a couple rolled out to 285 or so on a couple of holes. then on a par 5 that has a creek at 240 - I did my usual lay up with my 19 degree hybrid that up till now when well struck seemed to max out to about 215 -220. Well - yup I hit it to just the edge of the creek. I then had 240 or so left into the green and I hit it again two about 5 yards of the green. so.... whats up? can anyone of you better players verify that you DON'T want to religiously hold your wrist cock through the hole swing and that letting your wrists uncock a little on the down swing is a good thing for power? P.S. I am NOT CASTING - I know what that is and I am NOT doing that. Thanks in advance for your replies Drew

I hit mine between 185 and 190 - sometimes it goes farther due to conditions and sometimes shorter...but that's obvious of course. Definitely an "aim for the middle of the green club" for me. People seem to get very wrapped up about distances - it's totally pointless. Accuracy trumps distance - period. As well, most golf courses have between two and three sets of tee's. Hell, here in Sonoma/Napa many courses have up to 4 or even 5 tee boxes. there is no shame in playing from the front tee's - in fact it sometimes is harder.

Hey Sofingaw, without making any presumptions on the various aspects of your game - I would say no. You don't need to playing a high end ball. If you properly strike a mid range ball like an nxt tour or bridgestone E series ball.... it will spin some for you. By this I mean - hit down on the ball and take a divot AFTER the ball. The end balls do help a lot with partial wedges and also if you WANT to have some spin to work your driver etc etc...but the reality is that until your getting below the 90 or so range...it's probably not the best way to spend your money. If money is no option then go for it.

Cavity Backed Wedges vs. Blade Wedges
Sandwedge74 replied to Gaviao's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hey Gaviao, A couple things I would recommend. First , I would not mess around with those cheaper wedges you posted a link to. What I would do hands down is buy either the cleveland 588, mizuno mp series, Titleist Vokie or even the ping and taylormade wedges - but I give a plus one for the cleveland and titleist wedges. they are they best in my humble 9 handicap opinion. Also, dont let the absence of a cavity back scare you - you will grow into them and they will help your swing and especially short game which is probably the most important part. Almost every time I break 80 it's due to my short game and putting being on fire that day - occasionally I break 80 just from fairways and greens in reg. but usually it's the short game and wedges + putter. I do support getting lessons but I wouldn't get caught up in these famous teachers. **quality instruction trumps famous instruction. also - the used wedges I mention above are all about the same price as the new wedges your looking at - and there is are reason the wedges you are looking at aren't that much $$$ they don't look like quality - no offense. remember this - if you shoot an 85 - you know for sure 18 of those strokes were off a tee another 18 were into the green plus maybe an an extra 3-5 transportation/rescue shots - that's a total of 41 strokes - This means that 34 of those strokes in that round are around or on the green! get good wedges! hope this helps also I would recommend the Tom Watson book - "getting up and down" great read -
I have a black milled center shafted 5.5 "classic" collection Cleveland putter. To me, the Cleveland classic milled putters are some the best flatsticks out there...not to mention the price (around $80 new). I HATE inserts, and I have owned two scottys and these to me are better than scotty's- total sleepers in my opinion. here is what I ahve: http://www.clevelandgolf.com/US_classic-black-platinum-5_5-putter__classic_bp5_5_putter__viewProd_putters.html

oh for cryin out loud.... this isn't a free speech issue. Of course this moron has a right too say and post whatever he wants..it's a free country and God Bless America... but shit man, he is just a tasteless bafoon telling poor taste jokes about someone who tragically died and left a family behind. Gimme a break, I would like to think our men and women in uniform are fighting for something more profound then this.

PRICE DROP -see below for price for both 3 wood and driver - $150 for both! For sale: Titleist 909 D2 Driver with upgraded aftermarket Aldila DVS shaft. Original Head cover included. I have used the Driver for one season, it's in MINT condition with NO pop up marks (sky marks) and no tee scuffing (I use soft epoch tees) The face has a little wear. The shaft has no scratches or bag wear (I have a divider bag) and the Grip is new as well (Golf Pride - Tour velvet) the driver is a 10.5 loft and the shaft is a 65 gram stiff flex. The shaft alone is over $100 to purchase. This driver has been wonderful to me - very long and accurate but also a nice forgiving driver as well. I honestly love the club but I upgraded my 3 wood I want to match the two clubs this brings me another point - I have in the classifieds a Titleist 909 F2 3 wood for sale. It also has a custom aftermarket upgraded shaft in it. I will sell both clubs for $150shipping included thanks all ! Andrew

Slow Play on the PGA Tour, Tiger Shares His Opinion
Sandwedge74 replied to mvmac's topic in Tour Talk
I don't see Tiger as being a particularly slow player. Slow play is definitely a real problem at all levels of the game. I like Tiger's idea about removing the warning and going straight to a penalty - some of these tournaments just drag on and I don't believe it's from reading greens too much. I may get beat up for saying this...but I am totally ok with the pro's or anyone for that matter trying taking extra time to read a difficult putt from more than 6 or 7 feet away. I do think though that watching the pro's stand over a 145 yard shot forever is not really good for the game and I think it's really unfair to the players in their group and the group(s) behind them. I see it at my local clubs all the time and myself have fallen victim to it. Here I am needing a par or to secure a personal best round and I am sitting on the tee box while I watch the group in front me that either waits for the green to be clear on a par 5 (280 out and a creek to carry) or going to everyone's ball one at a time and ladida da da.... and so forth. Showing no awareness of the folks behind them or possibly in their group. then I here I am, completely iced over last and important tee shot ....etc etc... is slow play a fact of playing golf - yes. does it suck.... **** yes it does. should something be done about it....probably ..but what?? at a least at the pro level they can enforce fines. the one caveat would be the final group on sunday....no need to speed them up..they have earned the time and competition they are enduring. -
I see - so lets do $100 out the door - we can split shipping which would be about $7 a piece... sound good anyone?? also *** I want to point out that on the picture of the TOP of the club - that is LIGHT glaring - NOT a mark - the club is perfect on the top - just normal sole & face wear

2 Must play courses near San Francisco
Sandwedge74 replied to adh241's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
hey - I live in the town of Sonoma. Chardonnay - I say no for the reasons stated above. Eagle vines is an awesome course - long and tough but fair. plus a beautiful island par 3. Hiddenbrooke is just an awesome Arnold Palmer course - def. a challenge. I would also check out this course: www.play callippe .com/ played it yesterday - awesome course rated at 71.3 and 130 from the blue (middle) tee's. I grinded for an 85 - (first time playing it) just a sick sick course with amazing views and great elevation changes. mare island while nice is public and has the shit beaten out of it - lots a of dead grass and bad lies from great shots. for your money though - these three courses would be at the top of my list (outside of San Francisco proper) Stonetree (Napa) Halfmoon bay (two courses) Silverado (Johnny Miller course in Napa) both extremely nice and golfnow has great deals pasatiempo is also top notch enjyoy your stay! I'm a musician and have toured to New Zealand three times - great golf down there!!! p.s. Eagle vines is tucked into the Napa Wine Vinyards...really nice views!!!
