Good on you and good luck with the swing changes. As has been said you can use your irons well into single digit handicap no problems. There are tons of guys playing the likes on G25 on single handicaps. Its kinda reverse cool, to see guys with what looks, in many peoples opinion, a hacks bag full of SGI and hybrids pocket the cash from the tour wannabes. Used to play with a little guy in his late 40s, that used to float on a 2-3 handicap, with a bag full of stock Adams A3OS irons and hybrids, did he ever make some $$$ with those that didn't know him when we travelled!

looking for a square head driver
Mozgolf replied to djcs1204's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you really want square, check out the Nike Machspeeds they were pretty hand, I just got rid of mine in the last couple of months, gamed it for years (the first one) seemed to suit me. Mind the replacement Cobra Fly is just if not more forgiving. If you can find one it will be pretty cheap -
LOL, good luck in your search. There is plenty with more offset than your Rocketbladez in the market, unless you are well into a lower single digit handicap you probably don't really "need" more of a players club. Wanting is something else. I would have a look at Pings i25 for a blend of minimal offset and foregiveness

Oh lordy, assuming it is not my swing! Just admit you want blades and buy them and stop trying to justify it on some pseudo techno babble. It is not the offset that is making the ball hook 20 yards.

I have always had a good run with 3balls.com. I normally buy new or open box, but even the few used items have always been in better condition than what they rated them. Fantastic deals IMHO on new/ open box deals on last seasons stock approx $120 for new driver from a major OEM is pretty good going

Nike Covert Driver head dented in
Mozgolf replied to Doodaddy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was not implying anything. I am just surprised at the extent of the damage. I have hit my fair share of stinkers over the years and seen some absolute dogs of shots and never seen damage like that. Well, except one buddy that collected the tee marker! -
Early season Fedex points are now a qualifying criteria, news to me. All know the criteria well in advance, get on with it. The invite to past champs is perhaps why the tourney is held in such high regard by the players; adds to the charm of the tourney the first few days; and its arguably tougher to win because its tougher to get into and get experience on the course. Its just different, not necessarily worse. The other majors have their own quirks Kevin Na, thankfully is not there to slow everything down.

Damn you are right, the Masters is just so easy to win! While they are at it they could rename it the Augusta WGC. The current best players are always there. If an Ernie or whoever has a form slump that's life. In reality his omission probably motivated him to get his game in order and win the next Open!

Errr, very different reason would be that he is South African and ineligible to play for Europe or the USA!

Fowler in the mono colour outfits and then formerly it used to be Sergio, when it looked like his mother was dressing him and she still thought he was 8 year old, or he should have been behind the counter at McD (all yellow or yellow and red ensembles spring to mind). For me some of Poults stuff was OTT, but he was pushing the envelope a bit and still looked pretty stylish IMHO. I tend to run by the mantra, if you wouldn't wear it to the pub on the way home don't do wear it on the course!

Its their own tournament and its nice to see something a bit different in terms of qualifying. Its the only major always played on the same course, should they take it on the road as well?

Nike Covert Driver head dented in

That must have been a muppet of a shot! One of the worst I have seen in the history of metal woods! -
Still a few new driversavailable at $299, Nike Covert 2.0, Cleveland , Cobra Bio Cell, Cleveland Altitude, latest Wilson or Powebilt offerings have all tested well in various tests. Or the likes of last years Cally X hot is well under your budget now and would leave you change for a number of boxes of balls. By most tests I read last year, this was the hot rod driver last year in most tests/ reviews and will have lost little or anything to the newer offerings and will be a decent advance from your old Bertha To stick to your budget, I think you can go and hit a number of clubs in the store, and they will do a basic fitting for your. At least get you into the correct flex shaft and the chance to compare how the various clubs work for you.

Xhot2 or Big Bertha...SLDR or JetSpeed
Mozgolf replied to Shane Hansen's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yeah I get where you are coming from and I am not buying into the whole TM thing by any means. I am tossing up with the Ping G25, Covert VRS 2.0 or probably the X Hot 2. For no particular reason I have always steered clear of TM. Perhaps I like to have something slightly less common in my bag- they are just everywhere (aaghh, that likely why I am still having troubles getting my old original Machspeed out of my bag some 4 years on!). I like the comments the old MS gets- OMG that thing is ugly etc.... normally followed my WTF that thing is long... my you haven't missed many fairways today! -
Proper way to trim down driver shaft
Mozgolf replied to groovezilla79's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Not dead sure on SW, its at 45.75" standard on an old (2010) R Flex Nike SQ Machspeed (the original yellow and black one). I guess its about D2. The stock shaft just seems to work for me UST AXIV Core whatever it is. Seems to play a touch firm for an R FLex which is probably why it suits me floating at about 95mph SS I just can't get that old dog out of my bag. I have always found the shaft a bit long and have always just gripped down a bit, but would like to lop it to 45" -
Xhot2 or Big Bertha...SLDR or JetSpeed
Mozgolf replied to Shane Hansen's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Tests I have seen elsewhere but the SLDR on top for just about every swing speed, closely followed by the Ping G25 and believe it or not the Covert 2.0. Callaway seemed to be top dog in tests last year but seem to have dropped off in performance with the new models this year despite all the hoopla. Xhot 2 seems to be the hottest of the Cally offerings -
Proper way to trim down driver shaft
Mozgolf replied to groovezilla79's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So how do you reduce the length without doing in the swingweight? Will cutting form the tip not increase/ strengthen the flex? How much will the average player notice the change in swing weight? What does it mean to your average Joe? -
I doubt you will wear any club out in 10 years, unless you play obscene amounts of golf. The wear spots are normally just the chrome plating not the actual iron itself.

Tried out those cheap grips on Ebay
Mozgolf replied to 0ldblu3's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Come on 'fess up you bought them 'cos you thought the spiders were pimp! -
I am also a bit surprised at the results. I got across the board recommendations to play a stiff flex shaft. I have played about 30 years with r Flex shafts, down to as low as a 5 handicap. I am wondering if the stock Ping shafts play soft to flex. I even went back and re did the fitting dropping the yardage for the respective clubs a bot in case my numbers were a bit exaggerated (we can all be prone to that). I had run the 7 iron through at 145m and 135 and driver at 240m and 230m, always came back wit S Flex. I was pretty comfortable my numbers were about on the money. I am not overly scientific about the measurements, but I am very comfortable with the iron numbers and playing on the course I routinely have about 140-160m left to the pin on a dead straight 400m par four. Any thoughts on how the Ping stock shafts play to flex compared to other OEMs. I have done a pretty thorough fitting years ago, and more recently in big box stores and have always come away with R Flex. I am feeling like its time to treat myself to a decent PING bag and I am now in a quandry re this flex issue and don't really have access to a pro shop. There is no golf shop at all in Mozambique, so it needs a trip to SA to get a proper fitting!
