  1. For whatever reason I've always liked Golfshot more. I've used it for almost every round for two years. Golflogix provides more information, but the UX just isn't as good I don't think.
  2. Yeah it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 145 feet. I believe it was the 7th hole that Lee Trevino hit a million dollar hole in one on a few years back in a tournament - which has a 90 foot drop.
  3. @shihtappens Thanks for the thoughts on Gearhart - going to have to make it more of a priority now! Also kind of cool it's the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi. So far I've played: -The Golf Club at Black Rock -Blackwolf Run (River) -Whistling Straits -Arcadia Bluffs -Oakland Hills (South) -Olympic Club (Lake) -And all the Bandon Courses Arcadia Bluffs and Black Rock were probably my two favorites. And just a couple weeks ago I played Diamante Dunes down in Cabo which Golf Digest has at #55 in the world. Pretty cool to play a links course with cacti :) Will prob play Chambers Bay in the spring!
  4. Didn't play the Masterpiece at Treetops, but I did play Threetops at the same resort. This photo of #3 "Devils Drop" was definitely one of the best par 3s I've played!
  5. Bandon, hands down. It's a trek to get there, but its some of the most beautiful land in the country. Not to mention the only place you can play 4 Top 100 Courses in the US on one property.
  6. Started my quest this year and knocked off 11/100. In order I played: The Golf Club at Black Rock - About as fun as golf gets Blackwolf Run - Similar to above, but much more crowded Whistling Straits - Expensive, but worth it to do it once Medinah #3 - HARD. Grounds are amazing, course wasn't my favorite Arcadia Bluffs - Probably my favorite of all top 100 so far Oakland Hills - Liked it more than I thought I would, almost had hole in ones on both 3 and 9 Olympic Club - Should be called "Hillside" rather than "Lake" Pacific Dunes - I hate to say this, but overrated. Greens were in bad shape, but views still spectacular Bandon Trails - WAY underrated. MY favorite of Bandon Courses Old Mac - Some amazing holes, but the really tough stretch of 9-12 kind of killed it for me Bandon Dunes - Some really fun holes with great variety.
  7. I was pretty surprised to see 4 par 3s on the back 9 at Pacific Dunes when I was down there. Definitely not your typical routing.
  8. Curious to know what you find. I just played Astoria Country Club last week, and was blown away - totally exceeded my expectations. That said, I drove by Gearhart and have been wondering if it's worth playing - been on my list for awhile now.
  9. Aspen Lakes about half an hour from Bend, Oregon is still one of my favorite courses of all time. Beautiful mountain views, fun holes, and red cinder cone bunkers make it a pretty unique round.
  10. Fingers crossed this one actually happens. Played all the Bandon Courses in November, and was pretty blown away.
  11. This was hands down one of the most unique golf holes I played all year. It's amazing how much room is out there right of the tree. 7 was also another favorite on Old Mac.
  12. This was hands down one of the most unique golf holes I played all year. It's amazing how much room is out there right of the tree. 7 was also another favorite on Old Mac. Also sorry about the dual posts, cant figure out to delete one of them :)
  13. Just took this one at Diamante Dunes in Cabo San Lucas a couple weeks ago. #15 is on the right and 17 is on the left. Also took this one last month as well. This is #17 at Bandon Trails:
  14. Thanks for all the feedback man! I hadn't heard about all the blind shots, so maybe I'll rethink the idea of not having a caddy :) Really looking forward to it, I don't think I'll be able to go too far wrong with any of these courses.
  15. Good to hear from people who have played the courses at Whistling Straits. I'm playing all 6 of the Top 100 Public Courses in the Sheboygan area in a couple weeks, and couldn't be more excited. Has anyone played the other courses in the area (Blackwolf Run courses, The bull, Erin Hills) and have opinions on them?
  16. A couple photos from my round at The Golf Club at Black Rock a few weeks ago.
  17. I LOVE Golfshot for my iphone 5. It's head and shoulders better than the old 2.5 version was on my android. It's clean, not very intrusive on my round, and generally pretty accurate. I also really like being able to go in and check out all my stats from round to round. Golflogix has more tracking which I like, but the interface is pretty ugly.
  18. Keep the left arm straight and almost brush my hands against my thighs. Whenever I keep this in mind, I'm paying my best golf.
  19. Most people will go out to the range, bang a bunch of balls and never actually get much value out of it. Same goes for putting and chipping. Merely hitting balls isn't going to help much aside from maybe helping your contact. Practicing can be extremely beneficial if you actually setup goals for each session and focus on what you're doing, rather than just doing it to do it.
  20. My current goal is to break 85. Best score has been an 86, and I've been really close too many times to count. Longer term goal is to consistently hit below 80.
  21. I've been playing Nike SQ Machspeed irons and woods for the last couple years and love them. Nike has been known to make clubs for more athletic golfers. People who can get some club speed on the downswing. If you're a 70 year old whose driving it 150 off the tee Nike clubs are not going to be for you, regardless of the model. However if you're younger, and fairly fit and athletic Nike clubs are a real standout in my book.
  22. This, then you tack on Tiger's 2 stroke "illegal drop" and you have to wonder if there are ulterior motives behind the penalties. Both seemed a little outrageous to me...
  23. Second hole on the Greenback Course at Heron Lakes in Portland. Terrible drive, left me 220 out on a 403 yard par 4. 3 wood to within 4 inches. Now if only I could make birdies like that on every round :)
  24. Cant argue with that.
