  2. Great commercial - you can sense that these guys are going to compete like h*** with each other and let one another know about it, especially being with the same company now, let the games begin!
  3. I would pull my 5 iron for 170-180 yard shots, or 155 dead into the wind knockdown shot (pulled it off a few times this summer :) )
  4. Adam is continuing to play great today, controlled and aggressive at the same time! But tired of hearing how "Tiger just isn't the same as he was a few years ago" or similar comments every poor shot he makes.....we know!!! Say something new, we've been hearing the same thing for nearly 2 years now.....how about some "constructive criticism" for Gmac since he is +4 for the day in the final group and Tiger is "only" +3 on the day. (I am a Tiger fan but also having nothing against Gmac either , just an observation!)
  5. Just had a question for all you fine golfers about playing in a tournament and how the course handles lightning/weather delays. Here is the scenario: today I was playing in the 2nd day of qualifying for our local city tourney, had 2 weather delays due to lightning/rain but there was zero organization/communication really about when it was "ok" to resume play (everyone had come into the club house b/c the storm blew in, hailed for 5 min lol), some guys took off on their own and started skipping through groups b/c another cell was on the radar for sooner, I did not think this was fair at all b/c if we had used a full 36 hole score (they ended up not using the back 9, figures, I played much better that side! ha-ha) then it would not have been fair for a group or two to have finished out of turn but in "nice" weather and everyone else had to finish in the rain. What is you all's experiences, is their usually an "all clear" time given so people feel like they know what the heck is going on or is it kind of fend for yourself? Sidenote : I work as a college athletic trainer so I am no stranger to weather delays or the appropriate rules for them (NCAA is 30min after last lightning sighting "if you see it, flee it") Thanks all!
  6. Played a "practice" round this morning with some buddies at a course where I could potentially be playing in a tournment in 2 weeks, shot 92 with 5 penalty strokes and only hit 1 fairway....it was hot but my swing was not good today, but 3 of the 5 penalty strokes were on balls 5-10 yards max off the fairway that we could not find - dang cow pasture course! An outing behind us kind of kept us on our toes, other guys in my group had the same issue, oh well, its only 1 day!
  7. I agree Costas really wasn't that great - but geeze Johnny Miller just seems to get grumpier and more negative with each passing year.....maybe because less people give a s&*t about his 63 at Oakmont 30 yrs ago now......I don't mind being honest about a player making a bad choice/swing but he just seems to be so condecending like "oh the great johnny miller NEVER made a bad swing or decision"......get over yourself seriously, apparently you were a good player 30 yrs ago and yes you may have been a member @ Olympic but that doesn't make you the earthly version of the golf gods, ok , rant over (I just played a scramble in 90 degree heat , need a cold one to cool off - haha :) )
  8. Quote of the day "Enjoy your jail cell bud" - good call Webb - LOL
  9. Tomorrow is gonna be fun to watch , NO clue who is the favorite after today!
  10. Phil is STRUGGLING (fatigue maybe..... sorry had to say it :) ) - but its great to see Tiger is piping his tee shots pretty well.....Bubba's driver off the deck.....I know thats how he plays but didn't the commentators say that he said "hit 2 drivers as hard as I could yesterday and was still 60 yards short of the green", so not sure what the point of that was............I did hear 1 "Get in the hole" on Bubba's bunker shot a few holes back, I bet these guys are glad the weather is cool , this course looks hilly!
  11. I color over the number with a red circle on both sides no matter what brand ball I am playing
  12. Erik, Good debate - but I do think that when teams "rest" their starters......it is a strategic thing that is pre-planned (starters NOT playing the whole game, only playing 1/2 of it), it usually is NOT dictated by a game going poorly to start with. I get that the majors are the most important to him, but if he drops a 70 yesterday, he somehow sacks up and manages to deal with the mental fatigue and we're not all having this debate today. If you are burnt out, fine - but then don't even start the tournament and none of this is an issue. In athletics, I get that when you lose a game/play poorly, athletes report more injuries/complain more when things are NOT going well....being a college athletic trainer for the last 9 years has solidified this "theory" to me.......but how someone responds to adversity is a good measure.....just saying......he has dealt with MUCH worse in the past (his wife's health, his arthritis) so to most people, his reasons sound like excuses compared to the previous "reasons"..... I don't care if he doesn't have a history of this - unless you have a family emergency/injury, I don't think you should quit after a bad round, but that's just this 16 handicapper's opinion.
  13. Driver - ~225-235 (250-265 if I make a great swing/transition and everything feels perfect LOL ..........maybe once a round.......a few weeks ago I hit 8 250 yd drives in a round, and I can't get the feeling back!) 3W - 215-235 2R - 210-215 (if I carry it) 3R - 205 4R - 195 5i - 175-180 6i - 165-170 7i - 150-160 8i - 140-150 (my favorite club) 9i - 125-135 PW - 115-125 GW - 100-110 50 Vokey - 95-100 (haven't been carrying this in the bag lately - hit the Mizuno GW more consistent as far as 100 yard club, I feel like I have to swing out of my shoes to hit the vokey 100) 54 Vokey - 85-95 58 Vokey - 75-85 I'm not a long hitter but I do hit these "new to me" irons probably a good 5-10 yards further than my old ones!
  14. I was very surprised to log on line last night and read that Phil had WD from the tournament after a poor round. I think its safe to assume that 99% of us on here would be taken to the woodshed by our boss/co-workers if we pulled this at work, "I was on vacation last week and I'm so mentally fatigued from it so I am going to tap out for the rest of this week, besides, the big presentation isn't due for a few weeks so its ok, etc". IMHO - "unsportsmanlike" was a good choice of wording....Phil has long been lauded for being the consummate professional/fan friendly, etc etc, but this is going to go down as a teachable moment to your kids as what NOT to do. It is impossible to always have your A game , or to always have a great day, but showing up, working through it, showing some mental toughness is what sports is all about......because maybe that next day your swing clicks again. But then again, you are playing golf - on a beautiful course, at Jack's tournament, nice weather, apparently the best milkshakes anywhere......I can't think of a better place to be able to deal with a little mental fatigue than that, suck it up Phil.
  15. I think they are more durable overall.....but yes if you are playing on a "rock" tee box, it can be difficult if you aren't compressing them exactly straight down.
  16. Men, Any secrets to keeping the while collars on your golf polo's nice and white, and not yellow from sweat/sunscreen run-off! Any particular stain stick/spray/detergent work better than others for you? I know people say use white vinegar on white dress shirt collars.....but I'm hesitant to use that on a $50+ polo shirt that has stripes/colors on it too! Thanks for any tips! Justin
  17. Last year I played in my first City Golf tournament - for 2 straight weeks before the event my driver was TERRIBLE - poor contact, hitting big blocks/push slices, so I decided to try my 3w only (I had banished my old 3 wood the year before after it suddenly turned into a low hook machine - then I got my hybrids and fell in love with them)........anyways, play 2 practice rounds, hit my 3wood great, hit it 210-230 off the tee (occasionally get one 240+ if I get a nice draw and roll on it), but in my first tournament golf experience, I made it to the 4th round (16 guys left) and I got to play on the local CC......on the 2nd day of qualifying I shot an 82, lowest score ever , and was with a guy who shoots high 70s all the time and wasn't worried that he was hitting it 250+ every hole.......but now I have a new driver and I am in love with it (typical I know LOL)........but if it gets cursed, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the 3wood - its all about confidence for me!
  18. Shot 42/42 - best round at this local course of my life - I know its cliche but I really could have broken 80 today (haven't YET)......had 4 3-putts, not acceptable! But hit 7/14 Fairways, 6/18 GIR - that is much better for me, loving my new Mizuno Irons! Last week I shot 88 at my home course with 40 putts, UGH........but I am happy with how my game is coming along this year so far!
  19. I mostly play alone - it is easier to "practice" that way........but I have a Mon-Fri membership so in the summer when I am off from work (teach @ a University) - most of my buddies still work, and I play in the morngs to avoid leagues/busy times AND to keep the wife off my back from being "gone all day" - haha :) Or during the year, I get the occasional afternoon off at work so I can get to the course by 2pm and be done and home by 530pm and she will never know :) But I don't mind playing alone - since my dad passed away several years ago it does give me time to "think" about things, life............cheap therapy I guess! But I do enjoy playing with my friends as well!
  20. 140 yard 8iron - its my favorite club, most accurate, and I really can hit it 130-150
  21. Slow play/not playing ready golf/taking 8 practice swings, changing clubs, doing it all over again (saw this last week), my other pet peeve is when people improve their lie/don't properly take a penalty stroke and then talk smack about the 86 they shot to my 91. I try to play by the rules, I only move my ball if its on top of a tree root (but had to hit off one last year in a tournament I played in!). A few guys I play with are like this, I am no great golfer but lets play golf!
  22. I usually walk as well unless I am playing with a 4some and they all want to ride or if I have a good coupon. I also RARELY buy golf balls or tees, I have a Mon-Fri membership and in the fall I have several holes where I can spend 5min looking in the woods/deep rough for lost balls since no one is really out playing on a Monday at 3pm in October around here........last year I played 9 holes 2 different times in the rain and my main objective was looking for golf balls - the beauty of Gore-tex! Found over 50 both times. I NEVER hold anyone up ball hawking though, I am a fast player, just have to keep my eyes peeled! I also got all of my clubs except for my iron set off of ebay - easy to convince the wife when I show her full retail prize on TGW compared to what I paid - haha!
  23. Shot 97 today, had 4 bad holes (all triples), looking back, had 6 balls I hit poorly that cost me probably 10+ strokes overall. Moderately windy (10-25mph) but that didn't affect me too much, happy to have 5 rounds in already this year, just need to start working on my putting. Stayed after and putted for 15 minutes before I had to head to work this afternoon. I did make several great swings with my new driver on the back 9, just felt perfectly in-sync and didn't feel like I was trying to kill it.......now if I can just figure out how to get less R arm and more L arm into my swing....
  24. I will seconds the guys on the Asics running shoes - I have always been a Nike guy but I have run 2 half marathons (not a runner - former catcher here) and running in Asics Nimbus shoes felt amazing, and they were durable, I wear them to play racquetball in and do crossfit type workouts and they are still going strong. I am thinking about getting a pair of the golf shoes since I walk alot, I agree they dont look as classic as my usual FJ dryjoys, but we will see, my FJs seem to stretch out and now I have to wear 2 pairs of socks to make them feel snug.
  25. Hilarious - my daughter is about 20 months old and has been obsessed with golf balls for many months, there were times she would not get in the car without one in each hand, now her latest is to dump out my yard range balls and then put them back into a big milk crate i have in the garage.
