I have been doing a bodyweight training routine from the book convict conditioning for a while and are seeing great results. Mostly in flexibility and body awareness so far. Finally I understand and can feel what it´s like to be on the swingplane, feels like cheating :). Played this seasons first 9 last weekend, hit 6/7 fairways the one I missed was straight but too long. In the sequel CC2 the author has some pretty interesting theories about streching and how to achieve range of motion. Kindle version of the books is under 10$ each on amazon, money well spent.

Thanks for the reading advice, will read those books. It's the outside of the left hipjoint that hurts. I think it is when I push my left hip too far forward and get blocked in the follow through but I'm not really sure. Get the sensation that the hip isn't turning correctly in it's socket. Is my posture ok? I'm not a hunchback...

I've been Playing Golf for: 14 years My current handicap index or average score is: 9.0 My biggest concern is that my left hip hurts when I play. I'm guessing there is something wrong in the way i swing. I have always had a short/blocked follow through, can that be the cause of my problem? Any help is much appreciated. Hello, I just found his articles and they really made sense to me. My swing is what he would call a stall and flip. Too much arm action and to much flip in my release. Have had a really hard time to get my sving on a proper plane. Last three rounds I've tried to implement his thoughts in my swing. Now when I try to keep the clubface square to the clubpath through the impact zone I'm improving in a big way. Somehow my intuition seems improved, out of nowhere I can work the ball in both directions on purpose. I will definitely keep trying to implement his thoughts in my swing. How about you, have you tried it since you wrote your post?

Overspeed swings has helped me in a big way to stay more relaxed. Swinging a shaft with no head attached helps me to identify parts of the swing where I need to stay more relaxed to be able to swing at my full speed. Have read people claiming that overspeed work is so great because it activates fast twitch muscles. That might be true but I think the big thing is it helps groove a faster movement.

I have a Cleveland Classic no. 3 and had the tape at the back of the putter at first but now i moved it to the bortom of the club. Both positions changed the feel at impact quite a lot. Have been trying to hit a little bit higher on the ball so wasn't bothered by tape under the club. Dont know if it's placebo but already at 6 added grams it made short pendulum storkes feel smoother. Now i have 12 grams of tape, thing the club head weighs 340g. Yesterday I had excellent length control on short and medium putts but struggled with leaving long putts short. The added weight slowed down my stroke so didn't dare to make a long enough stroke for really long putts.

The I'd like 5mph more on my Swing Thread

In the video the Longdrive guy had two "clubs" for his overspeed training. An alignment stick with some kind of grip on it and weight at the tip, this was used for two hand overspeed work. Then he had a normal driver shaft with no head attached and he only used it for one arm work. Was there a reason for not sticking som weight at the tip of a regular driver shaft for the two hand work as well? Tried some overspeed work at the range yesterday with an old drivershaft where I removed the head and it really got me thinking. Swinging it fast required a lot more looseness and relaxation than I´m used to. Now I realised my regular swing is way to stiff to be efficient. In my efforts to swing faster I´ve been trying to muscle the club instead of slingshoting it. -
I´ve read the book and there were lots of new information to me. I would have liked a few more examples of on course strategy, he had one example and I would have liked more. As a 10hcp with subpar shot consistency every improvement in game strategy and course management is needed, to me the book was definitely a good buy. My take on the putting speed debate is that there can not be an optimal length past the hole, rather an optimal speed at the hole. As the book points out pros tend to hit downhill putts farther past the hole than uphill putts. But if a recall it correct they leave about the same % short of the hole. To calculate speed I think you need to compare effective hole size vs % of putts left short. Aimpoint says 9 inches past is optimal on a flat 8stimp green. Player A might leave 30% of putts short with that strategy. If hitting it so the effective cupsize shrinks by 20% it might be a good strategy for Player A if it also means he is leaving less than 10% short. Optimal length to strive for must be individual and depending on the players estimated scatterpattern on that very shot. A player with superb distance control but not so good aim will need a different strategy than one with good accuracy but poor length control. Maybe you are best served with different strategies depending of how much sideslope there is in the putt. That is if you agree with, lot of sideslope = broader scatterpattern vs straigher putt. A very interesting (and maybe obvious, but not to me) statement was that the higher % you think you have of making the putt the more certain you should be that you are hitting the ball past the hole. For most of us we dont need to be very far away when the best strategy is to try to die it in the hole. When probability of holing the putt is low your main objective should be to maximise probability for holing in 2 shots.

Yesterday I started wondering if I´m even striking the ball in the correct way when putting. Would really like to hear your thoughts about it. I use to have the putter resting on the ground behind the ball, make my pendulum and try to return the putter to the same position, kind of brushing the grass. Most of the time it works ok, but sometimes I duff it. I started thinking if it may be better to aim the middle of the clubface at the middle of the ball? I guess I´m hitting the ball more on the upper part of the clubface as is. What is the "correct" way to do it, brush the grass with the putter or trying to hit the equator of the ball? Hitting the ball a little higher gives room for more leadtape under the club :)

Hi, Why do you have a more pronounced reversed K with the driver? I understand why you do it when you want to hit down on the ball, but is it really good when trying to hit up on it?
-
After reading the hit up vs down thread it got me thinking about the advise to tilt away from target to hit up on drivers. To me that feels quite counter-intuitive as the more you tilt your spine away from target the further in front you need the ball to actually hit up on it. Am I missing something? When tilting too much the bottom of the arc comes below ground leading to very shamefull duffed drives. In theory, is there any differences between Closed stance, hitting pull fade Open stance, push fade Neutral stance pull fade Is the difference between a weak slice and a power fade that in the latter you hit it in-to-out but after the low point instead of over the top and hitting down on the ball? How does all of this relate to putting? I´ve often heard that I should hit up on the ball to get optimal roll. Is that BS? When putting I guess the best is to eliminate sidespin having the clubface in the same angle as the club path. To me that sounds like I should align my feet closed to the hole, is that correct?

@colin007 How do you do to make such a short pendulum? Are you holding the putter in the air when adressing the ball? I´m really struggling to learn to make a very short backstroke. To me it feels very jerky and not controlled at all. I even prefer to adress the ball an inch behind the ball, lift the club right up and only have a through stroke. @Golfingdad When facing a 2-3 foot putt you might want to hit it to roll 3-4 feet. Then you have a margin for error of approx +/- 1 foot. To hit it to hard or soft, then you are really in trouble. Whats most common in basketball, accelerating throws or pendulums?

One other thing, Beeing right eye dominant I see the line best if having the ball slightly to the right of centre in my stance when adressing my putts. How should I hit it to get the proper AoA? Get the sensation of hitting down on the ball, do I need a putter with more loft?

I think you are claiming more than you proved. Accelerating through the ball makes you bad at controlling your distance, but does that really equal that you are a bad putter? How does it affect direction, good or bad? You have quite a lot of putts where distance control dont really matters but direction is cruicial, 1-2meters. I´m not claiming there is anything wrong in your article just that different putts have different needs. Would love to se an analysis of how accelarating through the ball affects accuracy. A common problem with a big pendulum is that you make it too big and need to really slow it down before impact leading to a really poor shot. How would that graph look like and how accurate is the shot relative accelerating through the ball? Once a instructor told me, if you want to throw a ball a short distance (1 meter) you´ll be more accurate with a short accelerating flick of the wrist than making a big pendulum with your entire arm. According to him the same is true for short putts. Ever since i´ve missed most of my short putts so maybe he was full of BS :)
