  1. It can definitely be done! Personally I do not have a putting green but my friend has one, probably about the size you mentioned (about 10x25) and he said it was a few thousand. I've putted on it a lot and I can say that the quality is amazing. He said that when it was put in he was able to choose from a couple different speeds, and small contours to put in. Anyway its definitely worth it in my opinion.
  2. Thats true. Having all your weight on your right side can be a problem. For us right handed golfers, generally if the weight stays there, it will cause a block the right because you dont release the club. However in Phil's case he may miss left, but for him it's still a push.
  3. Sorry, maybe I used the wrong terminology however, "While the r7 425cc Quad driver still features the ultimate in ball flight customization with four weight ports and four removable weight cartridges, the larger size also promotes exceptional forgiveness for longer, straighter shots — even on off-center hits. A slightly closed clubface alignment is pleasing to the eyes, further increasing confidence and accuracy. " http://www.golfsmith.com/products/TM7425 The driver may not be offset, but when placed side by side with the r7(400cc) it appears to have a slightly closed face. That is all I was meaing to say. Personally I've never played either driver in the 905 series. I've hit the 905t on the range but I dont know whether I "could play" the 905s or not. Once the 905r comes into my local shop I'll demo it and see what I think. Thanks.
  4. To help getting your weight onto your right side you can pre-set your weight by practicing with a ball under your left heel. If you elevate your left heel(for right handed golfers) it will help you make a better turn onto you right side and get more weight on that right foot. Players have gotten away from it, but back in the day, many players, would slightly bend their left knee to a point where their left heel would come off the ground. This allows for a greater hip turn. These days players are more about the "X-Factor" turning their hips less in the backswing, while turning their shoulders past their hip plane.
  5. I would have to call myself an amatuer when it comes to attending PGA events. So far I've only been to a couple, US open at Shinnecock, PGA at Baltusrol, and a handful of Buick Classics(now Barclays) to name a few. I've experimented with techniques on achieving the full tournament experience. I've followed my favorite players their whole round, I've found a spot in a grandstand on finnishing greens and stayed there all day, and I've picked a par 5 tee box and sat their all day to see everyone hit their drivers. What do you find is the best way to get the most out of the experience??
  6. So much for the Tiger/Phil showdown at Doral. Did Phil break 80??....haha.
  7. I am having the same dilemma as I said in a different thread. My problem is the offset of the new r7(425). It's hard for me to compare the drivers because I've never played a round with the new r7(425). I've only hit it on the range and on launch monitors. However, from what I've experienced, I think the new r7 is a little longer, but not by much, only about 5-10yards. The big difference was forgiveness. I found the new r7(425) to be much for forgiving on off-center hits. As for my choice, I dont know yet. Like I said the increase in offset of the new r7(425) compared to its original is a turnoff for me, but I'm interested in getting the newest technology possible. I think I'll end up waiting for the 905r.
  8. As soon as you take the clubs off the rack, they begin to depreciate. With every hit, a club is subject to normal "wear and tear"(assuming your not hitting of the cartpath, rocks, etc.). But do clubs "wear out" to a point where its worth it to replace them? In my case, if I had the money, I would replace my irons every season. Not with a different set, but just replace them with the same model because I like the look of a new iron. However what I do replace yearly are wedges. I'm not saying I hit as many balls as Vijay, but after a season the bounce and grooves on my wedges have noticible wear, enough for me to replace them. Anyone else feel the same way?
  9. I agree. I wear contacts for normal vision and sunglasses while outside. I was very interested when I saw an advertisment for these however what happens when it gets cloudy? I tried to find info on the Nike site but I couldn't find anything about whether they can be worn indoors, or in cloudy conditions.
  10. Hey, I'm not saying I'll buy the TP version, in my mind, its not worth the actual $400 more at all.
  11. I would agree for the most part that there are certainly more new drivers and putters on the market to begin the 2006 season. Myself, I'm in the market for a driver. However, Titleist looks to open up the season by introducing a few new sets of irons that look promising.
  12. I've recently looked into the r7 425 myself. I'm torn between that, the Sasquatch Tour, or waiting for the 905r. Anyway one major turn-off for me is the offset. I dont know how the actual numbers compare, but when you set the r7(400cc) down next to the new r7(425) its noticably more offest(at least it appears). Now this is the regular version, the TP has a slightly open face at address which looks more visualy appealing, to me anyway.
  13. Okay this topic was partially discussed in "Greatest Game Movie" Post before, but I want to hear from more people about what they think the best golf movie of all time was. There are so many to choose from, "Caddyshack", "Tin Cup", "Legend of Bagger Vance", "Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius", "Happy Gilmore", "Dead Solid Perfect", "Follow the Sun", and I'm sure many more. Myself: One of the funniest characters ever....Carl Spackler( Caddyshack )!!!
  14. It's hard for me make a decision in the pole because a lot of those choices apply to me. I would say I have a pretty good idea of whats going on in the golf swing, and work on a lot of things myself. However I do take lessons, and people ask me for advice. I wouldn't say I can fix any problem I see in my own swing, but for a higher handicapper I can generally point them in the right direction. Also, many people feel differently about the golf swing. For example, if you showed my pro Tiger's swing, he would say that Tiger has some work to do. And my pro is a well known teacher in my area, has caddied on the PGA tour, and qualified for the U.S. Open. My point is, that no matter how well people think they know the golf swing, almost certainly other people will have different thoughts/approaches. As for the pole I chose (7) and my handicap is 5.2
  15. Haha, I have to say that is a very interesting idea. However, Alan Shepard successfully smuggled a home-made collapsalbe 6iron in his suit that he used to hit the first(and only) golf shots on the moon. I think the first shot was a duff, but the second shot was calculated at about 300yards. Pretty good for a one handed swing. It is said that NASA was a little upset about the incident, however I say if this new guy can do it without endangering anybody, more power to him.
  16. I have to agree that niether Adam Scott, Luke Donald, or Sergio Garcia will win a major this year. Furthermore, I believe this years major titles will go to players who have already won a major, no first timers this season. Also , I think Tiger will take home two of those titles, the Masters, and the British Open, not only because I'm a fan, but both those courses, especially Augusta suit his game and he's on track for another record breaking season. As for Ernie, I really hope he can re-gain his dominance on the PGA tour. I know he plays a lot of events on the European circuit but I would like to see him more in the U.S. this year(I'm not sure of schedual). However, I dont expect him to have a good showing the majors this year. Just a prediction.
  17. I have to wear a glove. I dont know what it is, but without a glove my grip feels off, and I never feel comfortable in the swing. Even on short chips from just off the green, I wear the glove because I feel a better connection with the club. However, I do remove it for putting.
  18. My favorite time to play is in the early moring for many of the reasons posted prior. However I rarely get to do so because the course I play mainly is very crowded in the mornings (I guess a lot of people share the same feelings about playing early). Anyway, because of this I play whenever I get an open tee-time.
  19. Thanks guys!
  20. I didn't mean to put them in any particular order. I only put Titleist first because its the first name I thought of. Now that may be because its my brand of choice however I didn't want to effect the results. Also, I was asking mainly to see what other players use and why. I understand its tough to say which is the best car maker for example. I was more asking what your favorite company is and why. Thanks.
  21. Yea Jeff thanks for clearing that up. That is what I meant when I said "pound for pound". Thanks again.
  22. There are so many brands out there claiming to be the best in the golfing industry. In your opinion, which company is right?(considering all products in general, balls, clubs, etc.) But more importantly, defend your choice.
  23. Favorite Swings: Charles Howell III - Pound for pound the longest hitter on tour, wish he'd get the putter working though. Davis Love III - Very long swing although he recently has been working on getting a little more compact, its amazing the power and speed he gets simply because of his release, not strength. Freddy Couples - Effortless TIGER - When he's swinging at 100%, it may be closest to Perfection the golf world will ever see.
  24. I have to agree, reguardless of skill level, its essential to have a short game. Also, I think if you want the easiest way to improve your score, its to improve your play from 75yards to 25yards. Around the greens there are so many options and its up to personal preference, chipping with wedges, using 6 or 7irons, maybe a 5wood or a putter from the fringe. However, the "pitch" is constantly overlooked and its a great way to get yourself in scoring position or to recover. I found working with my wedges to gain distance and spin control on pitch shots took my game to a higher level.
  25. I would recommend finding a middle-ground. I've experimented with both steep and shallow swings, however I find practicing one, you tend to eventually get too steep or too shallow. There are pros and cons of each, but working in the middle will ensure that you never get too far either way, which is a good way to create consistency. However, its good to know what each swing will produce if the situation calls for a specific ball flight.
