  1. So finally Sabbatini pulled one through, impressive it being over Furyk and Langer. Personally I couldn't watch any of the rounds, but a 62 on the third round has GOT to be impressive. Not the most well-loved pro on the course, I count as one of his fans. A final 15-footer drained dead-center to take it, and I missed it! Aaaargh!! But wouldn't it have been funny if he was in the playoff with Ben Crane...
  2. It's a new habit I've recently developed, seems to be helping me ease my swing, as I feel I am (was) trying to crunch every ball lately. It's quite simple actually. Right before I start my swing, I whisper one word to myself. "... Ernie... " It works for me ;-P
  3. Do sucky golfers count as well... ? If yes, count me in! Living in Vereeniging, I've played some courses in and around Jhb / Vaal. Glenvista, Riviera CC, Crown Mines, Maccauvlei, Royal Oak, Kempton.
  4. ... give up snowboarding... ;-P
  5. I hope any such a choke will be accompanied by a back 9 of -7 to take the cup, by a young gun... ok, this is fantasy league stuff, but it would be great if it's Tiger choking, and Sergio Garcia burning the course.
  6. Schlyer, thanks for noticing another thing I did not. I went through the rest of the recording, and you are right. As you said, another quirk to think about Sharkgolf, something you said about my golf buddy's swing struck a chord, it was the long arm extension on the backswing. I had another look at my recording, and it seems I'm trapping my right elbow on my backswing badly! Popped in at the driving range quickly last night, hit 50 balls just concentrating on that, and I definitely feel more comfortable with my *new* elbow positioning. Improved distance too. So this weekend I'm gonna try some of your tips. What you are saying makes sense. Might be a while before I get it right though Uhhhhhhhhhhh... that bit about sending you money... you'll have to settle for a christmas card...
  7. First off, thanks for the advice! Ya know, I had two video ports open on my PC, one with my swing, the other with his. I can tell that there are differences in the swing, but I can't pinpoint them, I am simply not technical enough. I realise that my weight shift is a HUGE problem at the moment (this week ) but I never saw the flatfoot impact position. It's as if I'm unbalanced after I made contact. What you are saying makes sense. As for the right knee going past the left knee, I didn't see that as a "positive" in my swing, I am trying to get rid of that (aaaaargh!) I think it's a result of too much movement in the shoulders through to the finish. **grinding of teeth** Ditto on the straight right leg... **more grinding** As for my golfing partner's swing, yup... does look good... Have to admit, he never gives advice unless I ask for it. Never. NEVER! Now THAT takes some doing wth a swing like mine (hehe). Golf etiquette anyone? Besides, he's married to my sister. If he beats me at a round, I have her beat him UP. So I always win
  8. Ok, so here goes, driving range, 7 iron, see for yourself. Wayyyyy too much movement in my opinion. Advice welcome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOXNS5PzTXo And then, just to finish with a happy thought, as opposed to ruining your day with MY video, here is my golfing partner with a driver. Sometimes I hate this guy purely for his swing . And his scratch handicap of course, but mostly his swing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pORtxUtI4-I
  9. *grumble grumble* ...Ernie, what were you doing... *grumble grumble* ... I oughta hngnhhngnggghhh... I certainly did not expect that one. Seemed Ernie was picking it up nicely again.... *grumble*
  10. In SA we play golf all year round. I know that is NOT what you want to hear right now , but I've been listening to all grumbles about the daaa-yum snow, and I now appreciate the fact that we have some awesome weather. Took it for granted previously, not anymore though... I got my Mizuno driver on a day that it rained. Rain kept up for two days, nearly drove me out of my mind! And that was only for TWO days! And I see no problem with a 10 hour roadtrip...
  11. We're kind of screwed here in South Africa. Our telco here is called Telkom, and they basically have a monopoly on the industry. Our bandwidth is capped at 3GB a month, at a cost of roughly US$65. Oh, and I should mention that this is at a speed of 512kb. So how much bandwidth do you use on average in any given month, and in which country are you? At what price?
  12. Being a high handicapper, I buy what suits my game, primary concern being to reduce spin on approach shots. I can't control the spin on PV1's or the like. Lately I've been alternating between Callaway Big Bertha Red and the Nike MoJo's. Nice soft feel to the ball, but not as much spin off the wedges. The BB Red lasts a bit longer than the MoJo's though, not as easily scuffed, but my driver is a bit longer with the MoJo's.
  13. Gotta be my 8 iron. It's the club I'm most comfortable at adress with. Lot of players favour their eight iron it seems? Maybe it's just the right length to be comfortable with?

    Golf or Sex?

Sex. No, golf. No, sex rather. No, I'm going with golf. Sex. Golf. Sex! Golf! ... AAAAARgh!
  15. ... and then I find out that I already have some bad ingrain habits Thanks for the advice!
  16. Should the hands always be behind the ball at address? I find that keeping my hands directly behin the ball works well for my 6-9 irons. For my wedges, I keep my hands above the ball, otherwise the bounce of the club prevents me from making crisp contact with the ball. For my low irons, my hands are a bit further behind the ball than with my mid irons. My wrists are not very strong, and I think this promotes the wrist snap at the bottom of the swing. Trouble is, with my low irons, I'm hitting a bit of a hook every now and then. Does this have anything to do with my hand positioning? Where should the hands be positioned with my driver? I have never been comfortable with my driver, and experimenting with the hands positioned behind the ball, seems to improve my contact and trajectory a bit. But I don't want to over-correct, or ingrain a wrong or bad habit.
  17. Best: Adam Scott / Tiger Woods Beautiful: Ernie Els (they don't call him the Big Easy for nuthin...) Ugliest: Charles Barkeley, hands down. Eugh...
  18. I popped in at our little pro shop, and ... the new Cobra irons were there, whispering to me. Simply because of the way they look. Be-eee-autiful!! So I lay a couple of balls down and took the S9 6 iron... and now I want them. These irons feel absolutely amazing! I like trying out different clubs, and do so whenever I am in any store that sells golf equipment, and these are the most enjoyable clubs I have ever hit. Granted, I'm not a professional by any means (18 handicap), but hot Dang! these irons feel fantastic! The Titleist influence can almost be *felt*. If you are in the market for new irons, and you seek forgiveness in a club, try these out.
  19. Don't get me wrong, I didn't say it was a beautiful swing. I enjoy watching it like I enjoy watching JD's swing: nothing spectacularly amazing to admire ito technique/elegance , but still interesting to the eye. Something about Sabbatini's swing is different than most players. Aggression maybe? I dunno, just enjoy it.
  20. *A lesson on how to get crucified on The Sand Trap forums * ... Rory Sabbatini! for being a determined, opinianated, egocentric, rude a-hole, who knows what he is and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks! Plus I enjoy watching his swing. Add in there Adam Scott: what a swing!
  21. I left golf alone for the better part of 5 months due to external factors, and only took it up again about two weeks ago. I'm a 18 handicap, and went playing with some guys in the single digits the past weekend. They all complimented me on my swing, while I felt like I had a shovel in my hand, two left hands and a bad case of Parkinson's I think this has to do with my tempo and rythm. I noticed my swing starts off too fast, and the majority of my power is generated very early in my downswing. This has the effect of loss of power and control as the clubhead reaches the ball. I now try slowing down the early part of my downswing, and accelerating right before contact. Am I doing the right thing? Is this what you guys always mean with "accelerating through the ball" ? Any thoughts/drills on this topic? One good thing about leaving the game alone for a while, is that I seem to have dropped some bad habits I picked up. But I'm looking forward to developing a whole bag of new ones!
  22. Some people are not going to believe this. Fact is, I'm not sure that I believe it. But here goes it goes anyway... Driving home from work (I would say two weeks ago, thus late July), our local news station carried the story. They are very credible, based in Johannesburg, South Africa, so I took what they say at face value. (Graeme Joffe is a sports presenter there as well, for those of you who don't know him, he used to present for CNN, he's back in South Africa now) I'll look around and see if I can confirm this story on the net. Some guy hit a hole in one, on the same course and same hole, in three consecutive rounds. Try calculate the odds on that one... Confirmed it, here's the link: http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/in...?id=1044512006
  23. Mozilla. I'm all for the open source platform, and IE irks me. Or maybe that's just Micro$oft in general. Saw some figures last week, Mozilla is gaining on browser percentage...

Hmmmm... Sabbatini is looking good (5 under after day 2) . There sure are gonna be some groans if he pulls it off... But don't worry, he won't, cause I just JINXED HIM! Good to see Adam Scott doing well too, but Tiger is looking mighty good (7 under thru 9, day 2)...

I agree with the " surprise winner" theory. Dunno why, but I do. Favourite: Goosen Dark Horse: Schwartzel (he showed potential, maybe at the right time?)
