  1. You are right, I do know him and he offered before hand to give me some tips. I already told him I don't like people giving me swing advice during a round, so he said it would me more pre shot thoughts, etc. He will play from the blues (7,100 yards) I will play from whites (6,200 yards) but he will still be ahead on most holes as he averages 288 with the driver, while I average about 230 or less depending on the hit. He supposedly wants to turn pro in the near future so I will make the most out of it.
  2. Thanks for the answers guys. I think mostly I will focus on routine, tempo, course management and recovery from disaster shots(not that he will have many). I am really excited to see what it takes to shoot a round in the 70's or possibly 60's!
  3. Yesterday dogleg right. 356 yds. Driver a bit wide but in the fairway. 7 iron 150 to the flag, hit and stop about 2 ft below the hole... that is why I keep going back!
  4. First time in my year and a half in which I will play with someone this good. I generally play with my buddies who started with me but I always beat them by 10-15 strokes. Any tips on how can I make the most out of this experience???? I am really excited to see him play. Hopefully something will rub off and I break 90.
  5. I a friend of mine had it. I hit it twice and thought was a good driver for the money. Just make sure you get the correct flex and loft. I hit the 10.5 regular flex and hit it perfectly, my SS is about 92 with the driver. GL
  6. Depending on the day and my swing. Sometimes a full 56 and sometimes a smooth 48 PW. I just got a Vokey SM 54 which will most probably become my 70-105 club.
  7. Jaggy can you tell me exactly why you use your 56.14 for full swings only, what happens on short pitches?
  8. Oh another thing on the Vokey site they recommend 54.10 for a slider and 54.14 for a digger, and the 58.08 for either. I am more of a digger so I was thinking of following their advice. I can get each wedge for $98 shipped to my office with labor day discounts. Decisions decisions
  9. Thanks guys. Any info on the new grinds for the Vokey line?
  10. Thanks for the response. Can you expand a bit on what you feel is too much bounce?? That is the part I am unsure of, since my current wedges are $5 Walmart clubs.
  11. Guys, I am set on getting two Vokey SM wedges, a 54 and a 58. First question is the bounce. I tend to hit divots so I am thinking of going 54.14 and 58.08, is this TOO much bounce? Especially the 54.14? Will I be blading everything? The other question is if I should go with 54 and 58 in high bounce or the sand wedge in high and the lob in low or medium bounce. maybe 54.10 and 58.08 or 54.14 and 58.12? And finally should I wait for the new Vokey's till end of October or are they basically the same wedge with different finish? Thanks for the help guys, don't want to drop $200 for two clubs and find out they are not the right bounce or something. TIA
  12. Playhouse did you get to playing the new ball? Want to really give them a try as many people in the golfing world. TIA
  13. I have the most fun on courses around 6200 yards I play anything from 6000 to 6500 so white or gold tees mostly, even though I play a course where the tips are 6100 yards so I play the blues there.
  14. Wondering the same thing as this happened to me last Sat only trying to break 90 for the first time. Shot 43 / 48 (sort of got the yips when I knew I was gonna make it) And the funny thing is the front 9 is tougher for me! From now on I just want to relax and let it happen!
  15. WOW I feel lucky to live in SFla now where there are like 2000 courses to chose from. I play the weekends on a very nice course for $24 twilight with cart. On the mornings it is $40 Weekdays I play a nine hole course for $8.50 walking.
  16. Sat I played a Prov1x, and the most noticeable difference with the prov1 was a lower trajectory with my driver, therefore ending with shorter drives. I am assuming the lower spin off the driver will cause this so I need to experiment with more balls and see which one gives me optimum trajectory off the tee and holding power on the greens.
  17. Thanks for the responses guys. I played Saturday and shot a 91, and broke my personal best for 9 with a 43 from a 44. Drove it in the middle or just entering the right rough on most holes. Unfortunately I went into the drink on the 17 with the driver, mostly because I tensed up knowing I would break 90 for the first time... I will work more on that tension free, range swing! What confirmed this theory is on 3 holes I teed up a practice driver after I hit my first one. On the 3 holes the drives were about 15 yards longer and more accurate!
  18. Shot 43 / 48 for a 91. Been playing for 1 year 9 months, almost broke 90 for the first time, but got the yips because I knew I was close. Missed a short putt for bogey on 16, went into the drink from the tee on 17 had another double, finished with bogey.... so close yet so far the funny thing is I played the back 9 again for practice, shot a 46, live and learn.
  19. Another thread got me thinking between the difference between range balls and playing balls. I generally play the prov1 for feel with irons and around the greens. I have been searching for lower spin off the driver. I go to the range and hit it perfectly straight, then on the course hit a slight push slice. So what gives, when I think I am hitting well at the range is actually the ball that doesn't spin and fly straight??
  20. Yesterday I played 9 holes after work with a NXT tour. I didn't get any slice off the driver, but was generally pushing from the tee. I was pleased though because a push is easier to correct. Nice flight of the irons and a couple of 50 yards chips one hop and stop. Shot a 45 which is good for me right now. The slow greens hurt me because it had rained all day, left a few par putts an inch short. I will keep comparing high end balls and report back, hopefully u guys can add to the discussion here. I haven't tried the prov1x but will report the difference with the prov1 I am used to playing.
  21. Drop and stop for me. More control on length, bump and running can get me way past the hole.
  22. I actually played the tour ix I got on the mail. I noted the spin difference of the driver, but also noticed somewhat of a lower flight. Could have been my swing that day. Overall a nice ball but somewhat clicky on the putter. I have to give the prov1x a try and report back. Also looking forward to playing a nxt tour.
  23. I am about to get them as a 21 hdcp, I don't see why you wouldn't like them. I am very consistent with my irons, and routinely practice with a set of 1970's Spalding blades. I love the risk / reward of the blades, only if I could get dial my driving I would be in the mid teens regarding hdcp. Anyway, I am getting them with DG R300
  24. I would suggest looking for a practice green which simulates your course. ie a faster practice green, more breaks, etc. I know that when I come from a fast green and putting well (32 putts) and then move to another course with slower greens, which would seem to be easier, I move to around 38 putts. The long ones kill me on a slow green because you really have to hammer it for it to get there. GL
  25. Thanks for the answer. The NXT tour seems like a popular choice. I have on in the bag so I will play it on my next round and see how my driving goes. Never heard much of the Callaway, will look into it also. You mention the E6 wasn't as spinny, would you rate both the nxt and callaway with more iron spin than the bridgestone?? I was focusing on the E6 so I value your experience.
