First, I would forget about the line of the putt and concentrate on developing your distance control. Your line will always be dictated by the speed of your putt. I'd rather miss my line by a foot than over shoot the hole by 4 feet. Try this: 1st- Assume your putting stance (I'll guess that your feet are shoulder width apart) 2nd- Count in your head 1.. 2.. 1.. 2.. 1.. 2.. (and so on) with a steady rythm like a metranome. Use this rythm to swing your putter back and through. Now if you use the same rythm all the time all you need to do is change the length of your putting stroke to control your distances. 3rd- For your different distances, stroke the putter back and forthe to the insoles of your shoes. Then to the outsoles. Then to an extra foot width out side of your feet. Etc. 4th- Record your different distances with each position on the practice green before you play. You now have an idea of how to control your distance. You will start reading greens much more efficiently when you can control your distances.

Which irons do you use?
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
All my clubs (except the putter) are from Golfsmith. I have built all my clubs for the last 10 years. I think I would go crazy if I wasn't able to tinker with my golf course weapons. I have consistently compared everything in my bag with the brand name "big boys" and have never come away disappointed with Golfsmith products. My putter is my own design (I have many). I have my own milling machine so I get to put my thoughts and ideas into a physical product. The one currently in my bag is a high MOI mallet with 1/2 degree negative loft with groves on the face similar to Yes and Guerin Rife putters. All my putters are within the rules of golf but have not been sent in to the USGA. So for tournaments I use a store bought blade. -
Have you ever recorded your swing?
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to Buschmaster's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I first started recording my swing in the garage a few years ago. The saying goes "what you feel isn't real". I think it was Butch Harmon that said something to that nature. It means that what you feel you are doing in your swing, isn't what you really are doing. Recording my swing helped me with certain positions of the swing I was trying to get into. (I would compare my swing positions to a photo layout of Tigers swing.) I would say my greatest leap in improvement came when I started recording my swing. -
Well... it was a little more than a week ago. I was playing a little par 3 course so my mother could try and pick the game back up after a long layoff. It was the first time I played the course and the 1st hole was a 195 yarder. Pured my 5 iron to within 6 feet (with 5 other people watching from behind the tee). I got "great shot" from about 4 people. Yeah... I was struttin' a little after that

Just forget about the birdies, they will come. The more you want them, the more nervous you'll be over the birdie putts. The next time you have a putt for birdie, think of it as a putt for double bogey (or whatever). Just train your mind to relax over those types of putts. Good luck - it'll come.

carry stand bag vs cartbag on buggy
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to michaeljames92's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Get yourself a good lightweight stand bag. Good for walking, sticking in the back of a cart, or pull-cart. Plus they cost a whole lot less. Unless you have someone carrying it for you, forget the cart bag. -
What do you hit from 200 yards?
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to nykfan4life's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It's my 5-iron from the tee or a great lie. Chokedown 4-iron if I can run the ball on the green. And I can carry a 6 if the wind is just right. -
Tired of People Hating on the 3-iron
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I switched out my 3-iron about a year ago for an original Cobra Baffler 7-wood of my fathers. I never intended on carrying a 7-wood before (I thought the next move would be wearing a skirt ), but after reshafting & gripping this thing, I was hitting the hell out of it. I loved the look of the small head, and the rails on the sole make it playable from ANY lie. I've been looking at replacing it with a hybrid, but I haven't found one yet that matches up to it. -
Swing Speed Question
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I agree with the other posts. Keep your swing consistent with all your clubs. (shorten it just a hair for the putter though ) The one problem I had with my swing was anytime I would try to hit a 1/2, 3/4, shot I would slow down my swing. To correct this I had to feel as though I was aggressively accelerating into the ball on the downswing. -
Work out of the house. Doesn't get me out to the course as often as you'd think though.

I wish more golfers would take the extra 4 seconds to repair their divots correctly. I'll fix mine and 1 or 2 more on every green. You'd be surprised at how many divots you can repair in only 30 seconds.

Thoughts on Golf Tee's
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to RangeHound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My wife got me a 50 pack of Zero Friction almost two years ago. Still have most of them (never had one break - only lost them). The ball does seem to come off those tees a little better than others for me. Placebo effect... maybe. But see results none the less. So if it's all in my head, don't tell me! -
What putter is Phil using?
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to Akers's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think it depends on the day of the week with Phil! -
newbie... Driver question
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to msujohn's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My suggestion is to take your driver out of the bag (this will lower your handicap faster than anything - trust me). If you're dead set on a new driver - get the highest lofted one you can find, not just what's being pushed at you in the store. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The last thing I bought was a Wilson brass blade putter (like the one Corey Pavin is using this week). I was sinking everything on the practice green with it and it was only like $25, so I said what the hell and got it. Haven't put in my bag yet though. -
My home course is about $35 for 18 with a cart. Beautiful course, well worth the money.

Focusing on dialing in my distance control with the irons.

Help! What can cause this?
WannaBeBogeyFree replied to weswilkes's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It's almost impossible to determine why this is happening without seeing your swing. The most obvious would be a change in swing speed, or the angle at which the club strike the ball. I would wait until the instructor can take a look at your swing. And then go from there. -
Shot an 84 two days ago. My putter was what let me down. Hit 10 fairways and 13 greens and then blew it all to hell with 3-putts. NOTHING bugs me more than a 3-putt. I can deal with a bogey from missing a green of fairway, but man, 3-putting from a GIR really gets under my skin.

What?... Those hotties in the little skirts play golf? Yeah. I watch it too. If I'm gonna watch a reality show it might as well have some golf in it.
