2. I'm 6'5", and have a very similar swing speed...I was fitted at 1" over and 3° upright... stiff shaft, works well for me. Might want to consider a midsize grip also, depending on hand size, but with your height I figure you'll need them.
3. 16º and try to get it close, then scramble from there, likely a 4 or 5.
4. Confidence in my woods has really been shot... never have I ever pulled a drive left... currently battling the pull hooks for the first time.
Oh come on... Where's you confidence (or sense of adventure)?
5. looking at it quickly... 175, 175, 150 assuming I'm playing from the forward tees.
6. Really I should play it 5,5,7... two putt for par...
7. I see it here as get there in 3, probably 4, two putts. On the tee I'd probably hit driver, pull hooks lately... attempt to get out with my 16°... screw that up... miss third into green... flub the pitch... twice... then three putt... so... 8ish.
8. A little off the current topic, but reading the last post reminded me of something that's really been helping me. Aiming for the green, and not the flag. Obviously when the pin is in prime position, I aim for it, but if it's anything but in the middle I've been consciously aiming for middle green... before I'd always be aiming for the pin. Reducing my misses I guess you'd say.
9. short game, short game, short game. My ball striking has improved considerably, so my emphasis has been on chipping, and putting. In the past I'd roll a putt too far past then miss the comeback putt. So I've been working on consistent putting. I've also been trying to play smarter. Why break out driver on the 4's that a 5 iron off the tee will work out well...
10. That grip works... for putting.
11. Aren't most club contracts a minimum amount of clubs, plus logo bag?
12. I've done this with 34 inseams but a hemmed pant looks so much better, lol.
also we have enough material left in the hem to let it out and achieve a better length for you
13. Oh, the slice. I've always been a major slicer. I've now tamed it down to a reasonable fade. Proper sized grips, a slightly stronger grip, proper setup, and the big key for me... clearing my hips...
14. Welcome to the club! Just picked the game back up at 37 after a long layoff, haven't played this regularly since high school. I'd agree with leaving the driver out. Short game, short game, short game. 150 in is where I'm concentrating. I've personally found a very short muni course, 11 bucks a loop, where you only need irons. I have pretty high ceilings so I hang a sheet in a door way and hit foam balls into it. YouTube, and the library. I try and read as many golf books as possible... I figure the more info the better... I'd also suggest getting fitted if possible. I'm very tall, so a proper sized club was a must.
15. I'll wear Dockers when it's cold... but I'll stick to my khaki cargo shorts pretty much all year... North Texas. I'd wear those khaki shorts made for golf but they are too short for my taste and too tight in the crotch for my junk... and yes I mostly leave my polo shirt untucked... don't think anyone where I play cares a whole lot.
16. Played a Srixon Soft feel my last 2 outings... lost it today. Was a really nice ball, although it had more of a thud coming off the club than I like. Cool thing about my course is that they keep their buck a ball bin stocked with a wide assortment, so I usually experiment often. DT SOLO is my ball of choice though. The z-star I finished with today seemed to scuff essily.
17. Playing my par 3/4 muni course today... 60.4/94 par 66... I'm going to shoot 72.
18. you could do it yourself with a protractor no? Trace the iron on paper, then measure? Works in my head at least...
19. Great info fellas! I did find these exact sentiments among my limited research yesterday. By no means did I take anything personally... Did learn quite a bit in just a few hours of poking around the intrrwebs.
Sorry to be so long responding. The Wilson "Blue Ridge" clubs were more of a dealer or sporting goods store line as opposed to Wilson Staffs and Hogan Apex and predecessors which were more of a professional line. The Blue Ridge woods were usually laminated maple as opposed to solid persimmon. The perception of most is that the persimmon is a little better, but some of the Staff and Hogan woods were also laminated maple, and some professionals did use laminated. The Blue Ridge irons were probably forged and of better quality than the Wal-mart stuff you see now., and probably had real leather grips. I did not mean to sound like a club snob, which I am not- look at my sig, LOL. Those are nice looking clubs.

These were clubs that were sold in discount stores of the time for a lot less than $100.00. The Blue Ridge was the cheapest of the Sam Snead store line. Cheap shafts, bad chrome on irons and the cheapest leather grips available. Strata-Bloc was the same as ply-wood. Not the same as a one piece persimmon . If there were golf forums in those days, one of the topics of which is better ,. Today, cast v forged not Strata-Bloc v Persimmon
20. Does make me still wish I had some of my grandfathers blades from the 60's and 70's. Learned to play on his hand me downs.
21. Are these not of the Staff or Hogan quality of the sam Era? And are these not "real" persimmon?
Those are nice to look at. If I wanted something similar to play, I would probably spend the money on something else. For around that money, you could get a decent set of Staffs or Hogans and a couple of real persimmon woods. As for the wife, when you get to a certain point, your golf closet looks like her shoe closet. Then just like I don't notice another pair of shoes, she doesn't notice another club or two.
22. ttp://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id;=151144313316 Saw these just now... no not my auction. Wish I could convince my wife that I need another new set of sticks..
23. If you're describing a forward push of the hips instead of a lateral slide, then I'd say yes. That simple fix basically cured my slice. I actually trained myself to start my hip push forward, toward the target, as I complete my backswing... I visualize a coiled spring, where the bottom half starts uncoiling just as the top reaches its maximum tension, which pulls my hands through, instead of where I used to lead with my hands.
24. Since this filming I've taken to standing more upright, and more of a vertical takeaway...
