  1. No - just the opposite. Lower loft, shallow angle of attack = low spin Higher loft, steep angle of attack = high spin Just think of a wedge shot - high lofted club, steep angle descending into the ball = lots of spin......you want the opposite with your driver.
  2. I would look into a Titleist 975 or 983 or 905s. They aren't the newest, but since the 'newest' usually means 460cc, they are still legit and some of us still swear by them - the largest of all of them is the 905s and it's 400cc.
  3. Then why did you join a forum?
  4. I'm pretty sure you are joking on the full swing thing....I have all my short irons the same length as my 9 iron. Yes, they are heavier. No it doesn't make that much of an impact, in fact I am more consistent with my wedges. I feel like I can make the same iron swing on mid irons to short irons (on full shots at least). I would guess this isn't the cause of your problems (if there is 1 cause), but it may aleviate one of them, like it was stated earlier, it would only cost you the price of an extension and a new grip to find out.
  5. Go for it. I have a pair of FJ winter gloves that have the golf glove leather on the palms, with gortex for the rest of the glove, etc....anyways - they keep my hands warm on those below 40 degree mornings. I think they were $19 at Golf Galaxy. Get a pair that fits similar to a golf glove. I keep them on all round. http://www.footjoy.com/catalog/mens.asp?c=46
  6. Get to a launch monitor, if you hit a high knuckler, without alot of spin you will be the envy of most players :) I hit it high, like you, typically 2x as high as I should, with up to 4000 rpms if I use most stock shafts in stores (tried the new burner 09 - 4500 rpms??? Good Lord) Alas, I digress - a monitor session will be well worth it to confirm your suspicions of high launch/high spin or whatnot...
  7. Gonna head out to the local Golf Galaxy and try out a D3 with whatever low launching shaft they have available. Still trying to kick the 8.5 905s w/ Graf blue out of my bag......that low spin monster just keeps on gettin the job done...
  8. No honeymoon - I base my entire game around making sure my approach shots into greens are at my full swing distances with my Vokeys. Welcome to the club :)
  9. I, like many people, tried the 907s - and was left unimpressed. I've been through the 905S to the 905R to the 907D2 and then 907D1 (which I actually hit for a while unitl the super high flight frustrated me), and then onto TaylorMade's recent (and numerous) offerings. I am looking forward to Eric's podcast with Titleist, and further comments on the 909D3. I am still looking for the holy grail that will finally pull the 905s (and its low launch and low spin) out of my bag. I can appreciate someone who sticks to their 907 if they hit it well - although I someday would like to know the feeling of being totally happy with a driver :)
  10. Hit one out of curiosity at the Galaxy the other night. The stock stiff shaft doesn't fit me, I knew that before I hit it.....so 4500 rpms, the kick on the shaft and spin of the head are a bad combo for me.....more importantly the head didn't feel as good as the 07 Burner or the Tour Burner either. I wanted to like this club cause I like the Tour Burner, and this just looked like a slightly larger version of it, and I loved my 07 Burner - it just spun the ball way too much no matter what shaft I put in it. So, for me at least, the 09 Burner is a thumbs down.
  11. It may not be the sexy thing to do, but put some of those neoprene iron covers on them. It keeps the bag chatter down, the chrome finish stays intact, and if you re-sell them, they will be no worse for the wear. Typically a forged chromed set of irons won't last as long as some cast ones. Cast stainless steel just lasts a long time, and doesn't show tons of wear, while the softer forged steel will.
  12. I like my current gamer the Circa 62 #6. Not the best looking scotty, I'll admit that, but I love the feel and the stroke I can put on it.
  13. Now dont give me all the, go get fitted, i know i need to get fitted, but i have zero money right now -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps if you started out a thread in a different manner, you may get answers you would deem more helpful? If I was in the market for a different, used, cheap driver with a different head or shaft, I would try hitting a bunch of clubs in the used bin somehwere. As was stated earlier, typically the heavier the shaft the less torque it has, so you may want to try out some of the Aldila or Graphite Design offerings, the NV 65 or 75 and YS-6 both have 3.0 to 3.5 deg. of torque and are quite popular and playable. Once you find a shaft you like, do some searching on ebay or the for sale forum here. If you pick up a model from last year or the year before, you can probably pick up relatively cheap.
  14. One word for you - "offset" The pings have a ton of offset in the face, while the Titleist don't. Need to re-train yourself to square up the clubface at impact. This will account for the face being slightly open at impact, and thus leaving everything out to the right. Made that switch myself a while back - played eye2's and zings forever - then went to a more traditional style club, and minimal offset. Short term solutions : Agressivly turn your hands over more, or strengthen your grip - both will eventually turn your shots left, and too much left, but it will be a band-aid initially.
  15. Thought they didn't come out till October?
  16. DVR'ed this round and watching it now and just saw this part, and didn't hear the 'annoyance' in Maltbie's voice you describe, nor anyone else. Not defending Miller, but just didn't hear it, thought they were joking around as usual... Not the biggest Miller fan, and I agree that his tangents can be distracting, but you have to admit, having someone who can give opinions and has knowledge beats the droning lack of insight of the Golf Channel analysts. The 'isn't that right, Dottie' catch is hilarious, hahaha...
  17. You have a problem, and I have the cure - send me those MP 32's immediately, it is your only hope!!! Seriously, it is a slippery slope, fun to try out new clubs all the time, but it may be better to stick to one set.
  18. You may want to ask around for a pro with a good reputation in your area. I work with a guy who isn't into re-doing anyones swing to look like a famous pro's swing - he works with what ya got, so to speak. Thats important to me, I can't turn like Tiger, or flip my hands like Sergio, so don't try to teach me that, hahahaha.... Also, don't be afraid to ask questions and actually ask for reasons for what he/she has you do. My pro videos my lessons and I have them as a record - pretty good to review after. One final note, take a lesson and work on one thing at a time for a few rounds and trips to the range, I seem to work best when I get a lesson a month, so about 3 for the summer. And ok, one more thing, if you take a lesson and don't end up liking what he/she says or whatever - don't be afraid to tell them it wasn't helpful and seek someone else out, but be sure to give it some time. If you are anything like me, you game will be horrible the first few times out after a lesson :)
  19. Do you have an opportunity to hit each of these? That would be best, you'd prob know pretty quick which one performed best for you.
  20. The LPGA didn't ask if they minded.......they made it a condition of being a member. And because your part asian you can tell people of race what or what not to do?
  21. Do a search - your answer is out there - but the Tour Burner is a bit smaller 450 cc vs 460 cc and much smaller in appearance, not quite as forgiving, and $100 more. I hit both and preferred the 'non-tour' one. FWIW.
  22. Well - it depends what your after.....these 4 are about as disparate in range as you can get. You got forged blades vs forged cavity back vs cast cavity back game inprovement.
  23. I guess if you don't get it, you don't get it.......but maybe this will help - Imagine each major is the Super Bowl, or each major is the World Cup Final, or each major is game 7 of the World Series. It is, as you described, the best of the best playing in those events, and the courses are setup to be the hardest test of ones game. Given this importance, the pressure, and difficulty in winning one, let alone many majors, you see why Jack and now Tiger are considered the best. IMO Sergio holds the label of 'best player not to win a major' right now.
  24. If they are wet, and exposed to air - they will rust (6th grade chemistry don't fail me now) don't worry about that - it'll happen quick.
