  2. Well, first off - if you hit it consistently, it performed the best, and you liked it - who cares what everyone else says? Yes, most Titleist equipment is geared towards the better ballstriker - it doesn't have the highest MOI, they don't have as much offset, etc, etc....but who says that the way this club sets up, with your swing, with your abilities, it isn't a perfect combination for YOU? Looks like this club passed your test - you hit them all - just go with whatever one you hit the best and don't look back!
  3. I'd recommend getting analyzed....not analized? ouch!!! LOL couldn't let that typo get by....
  4. I guess I don't mind the rusting look, I know it doesn't help any, but I do love the original oil-can finish when they are brand new. Too bad Titleist can't sell them to stay that way. I guess they perform well enough so I don't mind what they look like :)
  5. Hahaha - won the bid, not won the club - yep, important detail, haha.
  6. Which part of it don't you like? The finish or the shape? I personally like them. But, out of curiosity, if it works great, and you love the feel of it....plus it was free?? What's the problem? If you handed me a shovel, and it felt good and I could score with it - I'd use a whole set of shovels! I could care less how it looks. Hahaha...
  7. Just like most people, I'm pretty hard on my own game, and maybe I expect too much - but that's what keeps us playing, right? All good insights, thanks much.
  8. Possibly a ridiculous question, but wondering this as I played today at a very difficult links style course. I hit my Vokey wedges very, very good. I have a 50*, 54* and 58* and hit them from anywhere from 130 yrds out with the 50* to about 60 yrds with the 58*. Taking a bit off, or choking down, or hitting it full etc, etc...you get my point.....and I am consistently inside 20ft with any of them in my hand. I base my whole golf game around setting up a wedge shot within this distance range, cause thats how I can score. Ok.....here's the question - Why can't I be this good with my 4-PW Callaway x-20s? Why can't I be anywhere near this accurate? I know.....longer irons, lower lofts, etc.....or maybe cause I practice so much more with the wedges. Or....maybe....is it the club, the offset, the different feel? I almost wish I could have a full set of irons with the exact specs as the Vokeys (you know, only 4I-9I lofts). I tried messing around with a set of Mizuno MP33s thinking this, and let me tell ya, it was a bit ugly (and I consider myself a decent stick). Apologies for the extra long post, but any thoughts or ideas, or sympathy (is this all in my head) hahaha, thanks all!
  9. Usually lower. Go to titleist.com they have all their club specs, and you can compare the 905 series drivers.
  10. Having picked up a Bobby Jones 3 wood I am currently in love with, has anyone used the drivers? Either the older Players series or these new Workshop Editions?
  11. I assume you are looking on Ebay, and it depends on what you are getting for $220? 3-pw? 5-pw? 2-sw? Determine price per club, and figure out the best deal. You should be able to find a set of 8 irons for around $200, in my experience. I played ping eye2+'s for 15 yrs. They are a phenomenal club, and great to grow with. There are pro's who played these for years and Mark Calcavechia still plays their wegdes. Make sure you get the right color dot = lie angle. Look them up on their website if you need to know.
  12. Dish scrubber - plastic bristled with a handle on it - $1 at the dollar store. Attach to your bag with some twine, add a wet towel and your good to go between every shot. And soapy water after the round and your all set.
  13. I too have a love/hate relationship with most of my clubs (especialy the driver(s)), so I realize this may be the 'honeymoon stage' but it is nice to find a clubs that works for you (for however brielfy)...
  14. Got one, and love it!! 3 wood, 15*, stiff shaft. Goes farther than any other 3 wood I've ever hit, and is workable and just feels great. The sole of the club works through longer grass too. Of the deck - great!!! For what it's worth, 2nd shot on the 18th hole par 5 at my club. Plays 580. I was 257 out, with a carry over a pond to a 2 tier green. Hit the 3 wood to the top deck on the fly, baby fade. Needless to say this is staying in the bag!!!!!
  15. Titleist 905R is a traditional looking club @ 460cc. Doesn't seem that big when you are over it. Can pick one up reasonably cheap too!
  16. Watching the ATT at Congressional today, and Peter Kostis did one of his slow-mo swing analysis things on the telestrator of Tom Pernice Jr's swing. You could clearly see him using a club that looked exactly like the photos of one of the Titleist 909s. Must be getting close to public release...
  17. I picked on of these up a month ago, X-Forged 64* with the MD grooves. And I do also play Vokeys 50*, 54*, 58*...So, I can give you my conclusions. First, distance - for me, if I go full out on the 64 it can go about 60-65 yrds, but thats if I jump ion it. I get 125 out of my 50*, 100 out of my 54* and 75 from my 58*. But, like you said it is good for short sided up and downs, I feel this is more of the clubs intent. Second, the feel, it, to me, doesn't feel as good as the vokey. The head seems lighter, and although it comes off the face softer, I sometimes feel like I can't feel where clubhead is. Third, the lok is fine, I like the looks of the club, no issue there. And Lastly the spin. It is ridiculous with the MD grooves. Be prepared to throw the ball right to the hole, cause it will stop immediately on all shots from all lies. Clean lies and a fuller swing, I get 10+ feet of suck-back, so you definitely have to account for that. So, in summary, distance - corresponds with the loft for me, feel - a bit light with the face a bit softer than the vokey, and spins ALOT with the MD grooves. Overall I am happy with the club, and use it inside 40-50 yrds usually, and around the greens if I need it to stop quick. If I need some run out, I will use a choice of one of my other Vokeys. One idea for you.....if you find that you are carrying your 64* as far as your 60*, you prob a re delofting it a bit too much (as a self described closed faced digger that you are) compared to your usual swing.
  18. Just like you have those close friends, you know the ones you ask to help you move - prob those 4 or people you fell comfortable asking........Thats about how many people I trust hitting my clubs. In retrospect, and for future reference, if they don't like the fact you say 'no', tell them to kiss your a$$. Oh, and sorry about your club - that does suck.
  19. Try em out first if you can, they are much different. Will you learn to hit your irons better? Who knows.... will you receive feedback on you bad shots? Um....YES DEFINITELY. Go for it, what do you have to lose? If you don't like them, go back to cavity backs.
  20. Good stuff.....have to check out the guarantee....thanks for the replies!
  21. Wish there was a way to demo these, I think they are mail order only (or Ebay). How workable is this club? Looking for something to work left or right, thinking of trying out some of Titleist's latest offerings....seems you are happy with it. Did you try it before you bought it? If so, where?
  22. You're gonna get all 3 anyways, aren't you? Hahahaha..... Those purple ones will catch some looks, I bet. Go for it!
  23. I use them. $5 at Walmart. Neoprene. Take it off and put it in my left hand front pocket, hit my shot, then back on. Not even as hard to use as a headcover on a wood. Its like second nature now. My driver, 3w, hybrid, and putter all have covers - why not my irons. Oh, none on the vokeys - 'the trusty rusties' I call them.
  24. Yes, thats what happens. The metal oxidizes, and basically the top layer is exposed to the air and that is what rusts. Hit a few balls in sandy soil and off the rust comes, so after a round the sweet spot ans the sole of my vokeys look like raw metal. Usually it rusts right up again in a day or two. So, what you are experiencing is normal.
  25. One word of caution on Ebay.....if there aren't pictures of the ACTUAL item, and I mean lots of pics from every angle, be very, very careful. As for just a description of 'good'....well 'good' to whom? Especially foeged irons, they could be quite beat up, and someone could say, well, they look good. Really look at the sellers feedback rating, this is most important in where I choose to buy items. I will pass on items that I could pay less for through someone with negative feedback comments or a lower percentage. I buy and sell on ebay all the time. These are the rules I live by - learnes through experience, trust me. As for the seller "3 Balls Golf" I found them to be reputable, although I have only purchased 2 new items through them.
