  1. It does make a difference but IMO, not as much as people think. Ive played in temps as cold as the high 20s and it was a difference of maybe 1/2 a club. I know that some people switch to a distance ball when it gets chilly and Ive really never seen the sense in that. If youre that worried about distance loss due to the cold, simply keep an extra ball in your pocket and switch it out every hole or get one of those hand warmer chemical packets and throw it in the ball pocket of your bag.
  2. Likely thats why you are seeing tour pros going back to driving irons. Hybrids are great for us mere mortals but for the pros, who almost have a problem with hitting the ball to high; a hybrid isnt a good thing for them.
  3. Because they can. IMO, it has much to do with exposure and marketing. By releasing new product all the time, they are staying in the news and in the minds of consumers.
  4. Its pretty much the same talk that comes up every election cycle. Americans seem to think its still the '50s, where the U.S. is the center of the universe and everything is made here. Im all for things being made in the USA but unless people want goods to cost double or triple what they do now or people are willing to work for much less money, it aint gonna happen.
  5. Makes sense, as China is the largest economy in the world. Im just waiting for it all to collapse when the Chinese wake up to the thing that their government is doing and demand more freedoms. IMO, China is a house of cards.
  6. Funny how we supposedly need to fix the Presidents' Cup because the U.S. has been dominating but you dont see anyone saying we need to fix the Ryder Cup, where the Euros have been dominating. Clearly the Euros are just being a bunch of crybabies.
  7. I think it would speed up play because people would glance at the nearest yardage marker, guess the right distance and hit their shot instead of fumbling in their bag for their rangefinder/GPS and trying to figure the correct yardage.
  8. Just like with anchored putters and u-grooves, people would whine about it at first, say its going to ruin the game and then they would adjust and deal with it. As long as a course has adaquate yardage markers, you dont need laser or GPS.
  9. Like the others have said, the design of hybrids wants to hit the ball higher up into the air, so its more difficult to control your trajectory with them. However, if you lack confidence with long irons, does that really matter? Perhaps your mates should focus on their own games instead of trying to give you advice.
  10. Id agree that it doesnt matter for this instance. If you were talking blades Id say maybe but really the feel of a cast cavity back and a forged cavity back isnt so different to the point where you should effect you.
  11. I always found that interlocking reduces my wrist action. You can experiment with it and see how it works for you but most instructors advise staying away from the interlock and going with the overlap instead.
  12. I wouldnt say its cool or uncool. It is kind of pointless though. If someone finds your club and is a person of quality, they will turn your club into the clubhouse. If not, they are going to keep your club. Having your name, address and phone number on the club isnt going to matter either way, IMO.
  13. True but theres nothing that a chipper does which you cant do with a wedges or short iron with a little practice. My comment of it being a crutch was because its a club that you can use with little to no practice.
  14. Its just too bad the Niblick is so overpriced and really doesnt do anything that a $20 chipper doesnt do. Cleveland simply markets it as a jack of all trades, so people think its more than just a chipper.
  15. You clearly dont know TM very well. They will release this because thats what they do. Typically they release a new driver every 6 months. TM is constantly in search of the next gimmick to fool peopl into spending money on new clubs. Its one of the reasons why I refuse to buy anything TM, no matter how good it may be.
  16. Are these workers willing to work for $3 an hour like the workers in China are?
  17. Ive used chippers in the past and theyre great if you struggle with your chipping. They have the loft of a 7-iron but with a much wider sole and the shaft length of a putter, so you can just use a putting stroke. It really does make chipping much easier, especially if you struggle with that kind of a shot. Really, the only downside to a chipper is do you really want to have a club taking up a slot that is pretty much a 1 trick pony when you can only have 14 clubs? A chipper is a crutch but if you really suck at chipping, its something to consider.
  18. Id say that UAW has ruined it for every other labor union and given them all a bad name. They are the ones who have been unrealistic. Most unions are actually very realistic and only want whats fair for the workers. Anyone who thinks unions are a bad thing doesnt understand the history of organized labor in this country and just how bad factories used to be. If it werent for unions, things like the weekend, vacation days, fair pay and benefits wouldnt exist. The reason why jobs like this have left American is because of simple corporate greed and capitalism. Companies can make more money by producing their goods in places like China and Mexico; where pay and benefits arent what they are in America. We all want products that are made in the USA but most of us arent willing to accept the reality of making that happen. We all want to make $30K+ a year and have great benefits but still want products that a cheap. Thats not reality and most people would probably be shocked if they knew the kind of working conditions that exist in many Chinese factories.
  19. Smart move. Blades are great to look at but CBs and so much easier to hit and modern CBs are so long that its almost like cheating. When the average golfer can hit a PW 130 yards, something is very wrong. Back in late '90s, when I was 20 years old, worked out every day and always swung out of my shoes, hitting it 110 yards with a PW was crushing the ball. Now, Im older, less flexible, dont work out and much and can hit it 130 with a nice, easy swing.
  20. 2" of snow last night and lows in the 20s all week. Im thinking golf season is probably over for me. I may be able to get out on Sunday in the early afternoon but my normal rounds during the week are probably done.
  21. Ive tried the E6 a couple times in the past and it IS a ball that will somewhat straighten out you ballflight. The only problem with it was that I couldnt get it to stop on the green with my wedges and short irons.
  22. Theres been plenty of unfit golfers who hit it plenty far. John Daly, for example.
  23. My chipping method is basically just like a putt. I find that Im more consistent this way, I feel like when I try to chip with the ball back in my stance, the club tends to dig into the turf too much and I come into the ball too steep, which makes it difficult to be consistent.
  24. My only concern would be that Mechanix gloves would be too thick. Before I moved to Ohio, I used to heat my home with firewood, as well as having a sizeable yard to maintain, so I used to wear Mechanix gloves all the time. Theyre great for dampening vibration but Im not sure that Id want to use them for golf, too thick. To be fair though, you dont live in a place that has hot, humid summers; so grip isnt as big of a concern for you.
  25. Lifelong, diehard Packer fan too and I appreciate everything that Favre did for us while he was in Green Bay but I dont feel sorry for him. Anyone who thinks that they can play football for decades and there arent going to be any long-term consequences is an idiot.
