  1. Congrats! Great accomplishment! I imagine it is like everything else. The first time is the hardest. Hope there are many more for you! I have been close but not yet. 2 over is my best.
  2. Played my local on Saturday. Shot a very consistent 74. Everything was working. Tried a change to my driver swing it worked great! amazing how much easier it is when you are in the fairway. Burned the edges on 6 holes and lipped out on 3 birdie putts. If a few of those would have fell it would have been a new low round for me.
  3. Very cool! the fun is just beginning! Enjoy every minute of it because before you know it he is 16, constantly beating you and too cool to play with pops anymore.
  4. I agree the AP1 712's are a great set. Just bought a used set for my son. Very forgiving club. I play ping i20's but could very easily switch over to the AP1's after trying his.
  5. I have been playing for 25+ years and have never had one. My son and I played a Fathers day round on Saturday and he got his first one on the 7th hole 160 yds of one of the local courses we play. He is 16 yrs old and has been playing off and on since he was 6. Very cool Fathers day round. Although I really want one.
  6. Last Saturday my son and I played the back nine at our local real early. Both of us shot even for the 9. Proud day for dad! Only a matter of time before he is consistently shooting lower than me. But the highlight hole was my nemesis hole the 14th. It is a 292yd par 4. has water to tee off over and hazard all down the left side and tree line on the right. For some reason I usually pull my tee shot into the hazard on the left. Seems to get me every time. Doesn't matter if it is a 4 iron or a driver. But today we were playing good and we challenged each other to go for the green. I pull out the driver, aim down the tree line (to avoid the hazard haha) and stripe a perfect draw. He asks "where did it go? I lost it" I said watch the front of the green. It carries about 270 and rolls onto the green about 6 ft below the hole. Next I had a nice putt uphill slight left to right break and in for an eagle. Fun morning!
  7. Jordan Spieth -4 Martin Kaymer -3 Ricky Fowler -3
  8. I have the i20's and the offset is progressive. Very little offset in the PW/9i and the offset gets progressively larger into the longer irons. I really like the way they are set up. Certainly makes the longer irons easier to hit. BTW I love the i20's. From what I have read and seen there is not much difference between the I20 and i25.
  9. For me it is driving off the tee. If I am swinging well I score well but more time than not I have to revert back to a 4 iron off the tee. I really need to get fitted for driver and three wood shafts. It seems I am always trying to change my swing to fit the club and that rarely works.
  10. Hole #12 at my local course 512 yd par 5. It was the last hole of the evening as it was getting dark. Hit a 270 yd drive in the middle of the fairway and had about 240 to the hole. Hit a 3 wood that disappeared into the twilight but it went felt great and went straight. Got to the green and it was pin high about 15 feet away. Read about 2ft left to right break and hit the center of the cup for an eagle. My first eagle in a long time. I have had a few close tries but finally got one.
  11. 10th hole par 4 last Sunday, First round where I made myself stick to choking up on the driver to see if it gave me better control. Actually worked great except for this hole. Pushed the drive right into the 11th fairway. Players were coming up quick on 11 so I rushed to hit my ball and get out of their way. Ended up shanking it. Still 40 yards to the right of the green, 3rd shot to the side of the green in the rough. Chipped in to save par. Toughest par I have had in a long time.
  12. It's funny how much we expect of ourselves, even as beginners. I used to cuss really bad, even broke a few clubs (not proud of). Luckily I have calmed down a lot since. I play a lot with my two sons who unfortunately have inherited my intensity. I am trying hard to teach them about staying level and how getting pissed only ruins the next few shots or round. It's an up hill battle. Every once in a while someone we are playing with will cuss and apologize for it around my boys. I just tell them "It's ok, they hear worse in school. All we can do is teach them timing."
  13. I have been playing lately with the Taylormade Lethal's and I am really liking them. Great control but every once in a while with full shot wedges there will be a bit too much spin. Comes in handy though when I play courses with faster/harder greens. I have been using the xouts/practice ones at $20 per dozen.
  14. Thank you for the welcome and the suggestions. I will check them out.
