Hello Pez, I'm sure you've received several recommendations as to what you can do as far as your iron search. To add to the list, I'd say check your local used sports equipment stores like "Play It Again Sports" to see what's available. Also, I believe someone mentioned the web (Ebay & others), which is another option, of course. As far as brands & iron types, I would highly recommend a cavity back design due to the forgiveness cavity backs offer (just an example, I still have my own set of cavity backs that I refuse to get rid of). A good cavity back iron that's been considered one of the best designs and is still used by some players on tour today would be Ping Eye 2 irons. Of course there are others out there since the equipment biz is sooo vast, but it all boils down to what your specific preferences are. I wish you the best in your search!!

Though I'm not a Cobra iron user, I can tell you that since Titleist owns Cobra, you should be getting a good quality set of irons. In other words, it's almost like buying Titleist irons, but not with the "Tilteist" price.

New Set of Irons: Need Help
Shigeki replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just like novogolf.com, I also know some folks in the business & base what I posted on the info handed down to me, whicn in turn,I passed on to whomsoever can use or take it any which way they choose. aquacooled: If the info is hard to swallow, then don't take it too personal. We're all in this forum to see & share info that we have. As I mentioned, whichever way you want to view the info is totally your right of choice. As far as the irons issue, look no further than into the Japanese domestic market. Check out what's available for their side of the pond versus what's available, for example, here in the U.S. -
New Set of Irons: Need Help
Shigeki replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Though there'sso much equipment choices out there, it all boils down to you & your swing, swing speed, preferences, etc. However, there is always hope because being picky myself, I went through a few sets myself until I finally settled on the one I have presently. Here are some suggestions though based on the ones you mentioned: Cobra (they're owned by Titleist): so quality-wise, no question there. Plus they also have a forged model worth looking into. Mizuno: Any MP series model is always good. Check out the new MP 67's... Also, I still have 2 sets of Mizunos that like to keep because I still go back to them now & then. TaylorMade: I might be more biased towards their TP line than anything else they offer. Nike: World's numero uno plays them, what more is there to say? Unfortunately, most if not all tour player's sets are made by the Endo forging company in Japan or Miura. Big difference as far comapring it to irons available to the general public. Anyways, best of luck with your search & I'm sure you'll find something that will suit you! Peace!! -
Taylor Made R7 Irons - $200 off
Shigeki replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I guess that's what's available here but you can log onto Ebay and type in "TaylorMade Japan" & the pix for the iron(s) s/b available. I'd put one here, but for some reason I couldn't drag the pix to this site... -
Taylor Made R7 Irons - $200 off
Shigeki replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
No, because TM Japan has the forged models available for the domestic market there. It's just that TM USA doesn't market the new TP forged irons here (I think due to the cost). Just like how Mizuno has some models which do not make it to "our side" of the pond, but just stay as "domestic" models there. The new forged TM R7 irons of TM Japan do not have that black stuff that's on the cavity of the model available here. -
Either the Big Bertha or the X18 would be a good choice. The only main difference between the two is that pricewise, the X18's would be a little bit more. As far as playability though, the Big Berthas are "supposedly" easier to hit. My suggestion is to try them both and see which is more to your liking. Good luck on your selection!

Thanks for all that info gas_can! I was considering switching back to an older Fujikura shaft for my hybrid that I have that is still good in my opinion. It's one from the "Blue Thunder" line that worked well for me in the past, but I'll have to wait & see. Again, thanks for the info!!

Had used Pings, Titleist, PRGR, Maruman & Mizuno. But settled for Tourstage & now I'm pretty much satisfied with what I have presently & would most likely not try any other brand.

Taylor Made R7 Irons - $200 off
Shigeki replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Maybe it's because these are not the TP version which are forged. But for the price, they're a good deal... -
If you could purchase the Big Bertha irons for a good price, I would agree with jdub123. Another iron set to consider would be a set of Ping Eye 2's because despite their age, in my opinion, they are still by far one of the best clubs ever made by Ping. A good set of those would not break the bank either! As for the 3 wood, a brand that's been available that has received great reviews would be Sonartec. I've tried the 3 wood before & the distance was amazingly almost driver-like.

I agree with the mention of Graphite Design by "gas_can" regarding Graphite Design shafts. The "Pershing" line is indeed new, but you can also try looking into their "Tour AD" line & "Ten Nines" line for comparison. If Fujikura is still your choice, there's the "Fit-On" line & also "Rombax" line. Another shaft to put into consideration would be the Mitsubishi "Diamana" line, but I've been told that there's a difference between the ones with the "flowerband" on it & the ones without. Of course I myself would most likely not know the difference...heheheh...except maybe seeing the big hole in my wallet or bank account if I did purchase the former....

I tried both & decided on a different club from a different maker. Though there's nothing wrong with the Titleist PT's, I've decided to try the newly released Mizuno CLK's. But as for the Titlesit clubs, I hit the 15* better than I did the 13*. Just me I guess....

You have all the equipment that you need for your game. You've already achieved what some of us are still trying to accomplish, & though the appeal of new irons might catch your eye, your Pings have been with you through this process so those do not to be replaced. Best of luck with you!!!

Since there are so many models and manufacturers out there, personal preference would be the key. However, I just saw the new Nike Unitized line of putters, and I would recommend giving those a look-see. I myself would buy the "retro" model that they are offering, but will have to check others who've been making putters for a while like John Byron, TP Mills, Bettinardi, Tad Moore & Kevin Burns. Hope the info helps...

Golf Practice net?
Shigeki replied to Newbie Collection Agency's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
There's actually one that I think is a great setup at Costco's website. They do not have it available at the stores near where I live, but they might have it available on others. Try clicking on Costco's website & look under "golf" or "golf equipment". Hope this helps... -
Hello & welcome!! You'll find that there are lots of friendly as well knowledgeable folks here. Hope you have a great time at the site!!

I agree with Xt1ncT, here would be a good place to look at some putters that are up for sale. Like the one I have for sale (hint, hint...) j/k

250 with an "inexpensive" driver...I'll take that ANY day...as mentioned by Bigal5150, better 250 in the fairway than 270+ somewhere else. Although technology's great, if something ain't broke...(you know the rest...) I must say that I myself have seen some benefits from the new technology stuff, I still keep older clubs handy just because I know I can rely on those whenever I get into a funk...

I've heard a lot of positive feedabck with the X14 pro series that they're one of the best irons Callaway has ever came out with. You should be able to hit those clubs, and if you're not satisfied with them, the resale value for those should still be good. Cheers!!

Wanted "hot" 3 wood...
Shigeki replied to cape cod beachfront golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
After all the other brands mentioned by the folks here, you might also want to try the Mizuno F50 3 wood. You mentioned Sonartec earlier and they do make a great 3 wood. However, at the risk of sounding repetitive, if you can try Kasco's line, give them a shot as well...lots of luck with your search! Cheers!!! -
My New Clubs Makeover.....................
Shigeki replied to Franky's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hybrid clubs are definitely recommended. Way easier to hit than long irons & consistent as well, just about the best of both worlds!! Although some folks have already mentioned some brands, I'd say take a look at hybrids made by Kasco. They've been around a while as well, except not too many people have heard of them. You mentioned trying out a Sonartec club, and that's also another company that's been around but just recently gained popularity. Wish you all the best in your search!!
