What Single Thing Made the Biggest Drop in Your Handicap?
crazygolfnut replied to Val Raj's topic in Golf Talk
That is true, I have no problem with a 60 yard shot but when I was always trying to "go for it" with a 3 wood, many times I would miss hit it and end up left or right and in the junk. I found that I scored better when I kept in in play. Hope that makes sense. -
What Single Thing Made the Biggest Drop in Your Handicap?

The big thing for me was course management. I learned to lay up to a yardage that I could get to the green on my next shot which would be 80 to 120 yards. For instance, if I am 260 yards out I could try and hit a 3 wood and end up who knows where and I will not hit the green. What I started doing is picking a club that I could hit lets say 160 yards which will give me a nice 100 yards on the next shot. -
What Ball Do You Hit, and Why?
crazygolfnut replied to phedrick's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Snell MTB Red / Yellow. Good distance and short game spin. Looking for a replacement since MTB Red is discontinued. Testing yellow balls. -
I have played both and find the Q-Star holds the green a "little" better than the e6 but that is not saying much. They both are about the same distance and both lack spin. Not impressed with either one.

Just took out the 3 & 5 and went with a 4 wood. So far I am very happy.

I appreciate all of your opinions. Maybe I should explain a little about why I am looking to switch and my swing. My name is CrazyGolfNut… and… I…am a hooker. I am a consistent ball striker but am short and straight with a tendency to turn a small baby draw (which I like) into big hooks. I pick the ball with little or no divot. After spending time with two professional fitters and a teaching pro, they all came to conclusion that the large offset and wide soles of the G10 are too much for me. They all independently suggested I look for an iron with less offset and smaller soles and they picked out the irons that I listed. I spent time hitting all except the Ping i15s. I think the only reason they mentioned the i15’s is because I have been a loyal Ping user for years. At this point in my life, I will try just about any brand. Actually, I don’t like the looks of the new Ping i15 and haven’t heard much about the Tour Edge XCG. The Mizuno MX300 felt good with harsh miss hits and the Adams a7 felt light but smooth.

My quest for a new set of irons has started. My current short list of irons are: Adams a7 Mizuno MX300 Ping i15 Tour Edge Exotics XCG I have spent time at the local golf shop hitting them but since their machine was done, I done have any launch monitor numbers. I am looking for somthing with a smaller sole (smaller than a G10) and not much offset. So how do you think these compare with each other? Thanks for your input.

This sounds like a good idea. I saw a video on the internet showing how they do it. Hope they get the units out to the local stores soon.

Yes Alshland is flat and windy and the Ping G10's with AWT shaft go high! I went back to my old 845's and am hitting them straight but would like to update them. The irons that I listed were suggested by a local fitter but I did not see them on a trackman because the machine was down at the time that I was there. The problem that I have is that I am a Hooker! The Ping G irons have too much offset built in and the sole is too large. I was told that when you slice the ball these features will help straighten out the ball flight. If you already draw the ball these features may produce a hook. Same info from two fitters (Ping) and two club teaching pros.

My quest for a new set of irons has started. I spent some time at the local golf store when a local club fitter introduced me to Tour Edge - Exotics XCG Irons. To be honest I do not know much about the brand or this model. The store has a complete fitting cart and are willing to provide just about any options you can ask for. Also, while I was in the store, they dropped the price by $100 which makes me wonder if they are going to be replaced by a newer model. So what do you think? Are these irons any good? FYI, my current short list of potential next set of irons are: Adams a7 Mizuno MX300 Cobra S2 Forged Maybe Tour Edge Exotics XCG Thanks for your thoughts.

Rife – Can’t make up my mind which model.

I think I will be going with the 2-bar stainless. It has little more weight and I am not sure the plumbers neck in the black one work work for me. .
