  1. Doubtful that they will drop the HiBore. They've spent so much time, money, R&D;, ads, etc promoting it to drop it now. The last version of the Launcher was a Composite head at the $399 price point, which I imagine this is what the new one will be. Leaving the HiBore as their bread and butter driver at the $299 price point. Most manufacturer's do this, Callaway, Nike, TaylorMade, now Titleist with the new 909's. It's a way for them to capture more market share. The HiBore XLS has been an absolute dog in our shop. Honestly it seems liek the only time we move one is when we "sell" it to a tournament as a prize.
  2. A good friend and co-worker of mine hit's X-flex shaft and he went to a long drive contest this past weekend and had his swing speed measured. 146mph. So if you're saying your swing speed is mid 90's then there's no reason for you to be swinging X-stiff. The best bet for you would be to get a shaft with a low launch angle, a higher kick point. And I wouldn't go with the 8.5, that will most likely promote too much side spin.
  3. I actually just saw all of these clubs today, as I had an appointment with our TaylorMade rep today. Think of the new Burner as a cross between the previous Burner driver, and the Tour Burner. The Tour Burner wasn't selling like they expected, and so they have replaced the old Burner, with the best features of the Tour Burner and re-packaged it as the Burner, because that was the best selling driver of 2007. I liked the look and feel of the Itsy Bitsy Spider, good balance, nice weight. The irons were decent looking, the TP looked sharp. I'll have to hit it when we get our demo's. The r7 Limited is not bad. They brought it back because the movable weights were being asked for big time. The CGB max was a dud and way too high priced. Overall I think they have some good products coming out. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the new line of Kia Ma putters from them. Milled putters, no inserts. Modeled in the vein of Scotty Cameron. Could be interesting.
  4. While some private clubs will let you on if you say you're "interested in joining" most will require some sort of back up. Our club for example requires an interview with the Membership Chair of the Board in order to play as a prospective member. For most clubs as well, there are a group of members who play with prospective members to show them around, answer questions etc. Think about it, most private clubs want new members, they're not going to just send someone out on the course without someone. They're going to make sure they're taken care of. As far as sneaking on, might work on some courses. Our club for example, is not one of them. There are houses that border all but 2 holes, and members that live on pretty much every hole. They are our best (and worst) friends when it comes to unauthorized play. We get phone calls quite often informing us of people who shouldn't be on the course.
  5. I don't see why not. They're playing a 2-man scramble. So really just an exagerated 5-some I suppose. Plus, if a faster group comes up on them they always let them through. You've got to realize this is at a private club, on member's day. It can't and doesn't happen at any other time. But things like this happen at a private club, way more than at any public course.
  6. It all depends on the course. At a public course, no chance. There are too many variables as to who the group is made up of. Here at my club we allow 5somes and most do just fine. Sometimes we even have 6+ in groups. Today for example there's a group of guys that will probably go out in a 10some late this afternoon and play a scramble. 99 times out of a 100 there's no problems with it.
  7. I have a pair of Tour 360 II's and the LTD's. I have to say I like the look of the LTD's better, but the 360's are more comfortable in my opinion. At least for walking. One of our other pros is on staff with Taylor Made and he has a pair of each, and he says the LTD's have given him blisters when walking with them. And size 17? That's huge.
  8. If you could get pictures of them it could go a long way to find out if they're fake or not. We had a member come in a couple months ago with his Callaway FT-i that the shaft had broken on. We sent it in not even thinking about it, and they sent it back to us with a letter saying that it was a counterfeit. We put it up against a genuine FT-i and looking at the two you could easily spot the differences. The paint was slightly different color, the 'UPC' serial code they use was upside down and little off center from the real one. The biggest difference was the sound. The counterfeit, while shaped accurately was by no means a composite head. You could tell just by flicking it. My advice would be, if you can, would be to take the clubs to a retailer and compare them side by side to a genuine set and see what, if any details you can spot.
  9. I don't use a push cart personally. But at my club, the Sun Mountain outsells everything else probably 20 to 1. It's the best product on the market in my opinion. Not to mention that their customer service is top of the line.
  10. That sounds about right. Our rep has been fairly accomodating with us on those types of things.
  11. If you're going to use a Belly putter, you're best off getting one that is made from the factory as a belly putter, instead of reshafting it with just a longer shaft. Typically belly putter heads are a bit larger and heavier than the traditional heads. For me, I've never felt comfortable using a belly putter. It's just not a natural feel for me. Currently I'm using a 32.5" Scott Cameron Studio Design #3 with a Winn Marble Pistol, built up with about 4-5 extra wraps. Before that I was using an Odyssey White Hot XG#7 35" with a Winn Midsize Pistol. I love the Odyssey, but it was time for a change in the head. My head that is.
  12. I try to walk/carry as much as I can. Sometimes when I finish up in the shop it's easier to grab a cart and ride for a quick nine.
  13. If you haven't had it very long, either call up Adams, or go back to the shop you got it from and have them reshaft it. If it was normal use like you say it was, then there should be no problem getting them to reshaft it. Oh and that shaft is done for. You wouldn't really want to put it into a fairway wood or hybrid. Even if you could reuse it, the tip stiffness of the shaft would be way off.
  14. I have the FootJoy Classic Tour ReelFits and I like them. I like the aspect of not having to tie the shoes. I also like the fact that they stay the same tightness throughout my round. There is a small pinch on the break across the left toe, but it's not too bad.
  15. I used to have New Decade Multi Compounds and they were good to start. It seems like they got slick really quickly on me. I just swapped to Golf Pride DD2's in Red/Black and I have to say that I love them. Soft feel, but with a firmness on the core.
  16. The SG5 is the top of the line. It has a color display, larger screen, is rechargable, and has different "tech" capabilities. The SG2.5 is more price point oriented, while also offering a rechargeable battery, it's a bit lighter, and no color screen. The SG3 and SG4 are still available but I believe that they are being phased out.
  17. I don't spend a penny on golf. One of the perks of being in the business I suppose. I couldn't play the game otherwise.
