  2. Got a Taylormade Jetspeed HL 3W from Global Golf open box site. Came wrapped in original plastic. Fills in gap in my set. Used it today and love it.
  3. Shot a 103 today (after 94 on my last round at a different course). Only 1 penalty and 1 par. 4 triples, including 2 on par 3s, killed any chance of breaking 100. Only 4 fairways hit, but 4 others were playable from the first cut, so reasonably satisfied with my driver. Part the blame is on me. Went for the hero shot on at least 2 holes, which left me in trouble. On 2 other holes I laid up nicely, but skulled my AW through the green (unusual for me.) Definitely 6 or 7 strokes I could make back that would have put me under the "magic number". All in all still a good day!
  4. Basically alignment and address followed by Keys 1, 2, and 3. For me they all seem to work together. If one part gets out of line, it all seems to fall apart. And I can't seem to find the time to get enough good reps to get it all ingrained.
  5. Shot my best round today (94) since starting back playing late last summer. Based on this thread I tried "gripping down" my driver. Hit 8 Fairways and my only OOB shots were irons on the par 3s. And I didn't notice any real loss of distance. My partner is 25 years younger than me and looong. On the first hole I teed of with a dead center 250 drive. He hit it 290-300 but in the next fairway. Easy iron, up and down for par. And he had a double. Boy did that feel good...
  6. Played my third round of the season. Shot a 94 (46 + 48). My best round after starting to play again late last summer after about 17 years of not playing. Only broke 100 one time last year. I play Taylormade clubs which tend to have long shafts. Made a small adjustment based on comments on this and other TST threads. Choking up to the very bottom of the grip. Hit 8 fairways and my only OOB shots were on the par 3s. Really didn't notice any loss of distance. Will have to see about a fitting to cut down the shafts somewhat. Feels so good. Thanks to Eric, Dave and everyone else here for your insights and feedback. It made a difference for me and makes me wanting more!
  7. First session at driving range this season. Worked on weight forward and keeping head still. Really bad at start. A little better by the end.
  8. I already hit too many worm burners to do that...
  9. Here in Connecticut we got about an inch of slush last night, with another 2-4 inches tonight. Leaving for DC on Saturday for work, followed by 2 weeks in Florida. 3 rounds planned so far. Just hope I don't pull something after a long winter without full swings!
  10. I started playing golf in the late 1980's. At that time I bought a Jack Nicholas Golden Bear set with woods that were really made of wood. I played with these for 9 or 10 years, at which time I basically stopped playing due to growing family and work commitments. Late last summer I started back playing again. After a few rounds I started checking out demo clubs at Dick's, picking up an inexpensive Wilson driver and a Nike Covert hybrid. For Christmas I got a new set of Taylormade irons (speedblade) and a new Jetspeed driver. (Still need to pick up a fairway wood.) Unfortunately with the weather in the northeast, I haven't been able to hit them yet. Going to Florida in March and looking forward to "christening" them. Can't wait to see how much difference in terms of forgiveness they provide. BTW, the old clubs are still in the garage, just in case...
  11. I'll bet he gets a lot of roll down that "cart path"...
  12. I am in basically the same position, except I haven't been able to get on a course since October. I broke 100 right at the end, with my big problem being distance and direction off the tee. At this point my short game is probably the best part of my game. Got a new driver and iron set for Christmas so hoping that will help, along with following the swing threads here and elsewhere. With 3' of snow on the ground here in Connecticut, I probably won't get on a course until March when we go on vacation in Florida.
  13. I starting to play again after a long break late last summer. I looked at a lot of things to cure my "big slice" and/or push to the right, initially going with the Moe Norman Single Plane Swing. More recently I've started reading up on Stack & Tilt and the 5 Simple Keys (which seems to have a lot of fans here) and makes a lot of sense to me. What I am looking for at this point is to get as much distance as possible with enough control to consistently stay in the fairway. As Eric (@iacas) has said, and i have observed, there seems to be a lot of common elements in all three of these approaches to the golf swing. Since I started working on the Moe Norman Single Plane Swing to solve my problems I seem to be seeing some improvement. Also I don't have a problem looking a little different from other golfers so I plan to continue down this path for now. One other observation is that there appears to be a lot of heavy-duty "marketing" going on relative to the SPS , which almost turned me off. As long as I keep seeing improvement, this path seems like the right one for me. With that said, I'll also keep reading here at TST to see what else can help me improve my game. Thanks to all for your continued input and insights.
  14. I took a break for about 12 years, and started back up last year in August. Back in the day, I regularly shot low-90s, but never broke 90. My clubs were the original starter set I got about 15 years ago (single blade irons and real wood Golden Bear woods.) I finally managed to break 100 my second to last round in October. Picked up a hybrid part way through the season last year and got a new Driver & iron set for Christmas. Stil need a new fairway wood. Can't wait for the 3 feet of snow to go away so I can see how much the "modern" clubs help. Hopefully with these and work on my swing then I will be breaking 100 regularly
  15. Definitely. Can't wait. Should be a big difference from what I was using. My "woods"were really made of wood...
