  1. I'd think that "lag" coming from inside would be much more powerful since you'd be able to use your bigger muscles and your entire body would be more connected. By connected I am referring mostly to the fact that your right elbow is closer to your body allowing you to really crush it.
  2. Please, if your comments weren't meant to do any harm you wouldn't have used the connotation you used. Your "2 cents" weren't constructive and the OP had every reason to react the way that he did.
  3. There's something else called physics but I guess that doesn't apply to you when you're dreaming
  4. Good for you but that's besides the point bc your SS in your 6 iron isn't below 90mph. A SS for a 6iron that is "standard lofted" and around 85-88 mph will NOT get you 185 yard carry. Plus if your SS is below 88-89mph the OP most likely not (note I didn't say definitely) be playing x-stiff shafts. The face he's swinging below 90mph and playing x-stiff shafts makes me either doubt he carries his 6 iron 185 or he has his 6-iron SS posted incorrectly
  5. Sorry but how do you fly a 6 iron 185 when your 6-iron swing speed doesn't break 90? Strong lofts, lots of roll??
  6. I'm going to a Mizuno Demo day to get a blended set to replace my 52's w/ PX 5.5s. Most likely going to sell them after i get my set. If you're willing to wait a couple of weeks for the special order to come in from Miz i'm probably going to put them up on here and in Golfwrx first for around 350 for the set shipped. If no takers I'll throw it on ebay. Let me know and I can PM you as soon as I get the blended 58/68 i'm ordering this sat. (yes i'm a club ho )
  7. Has anyone tried getting a fitting using the new shaft optimizer from mizuno? I guess you hit a few balls and it will suggest 3 shafts plus whether you should soft or hardstep them - not sure how accurate this is but some info would be appreciated!
  8. Hi, I'm looking for a really good teaching pro in the NY area (Long Island too). I want someone who actually cares about how their students perform. I've been taking a few lessons at the driving range in Douglaston, however the pros there don't seem to really care about how you are doing. I can keep handing them 50 bucks for 30 minutes of their time but I'm learning more by hitting on my own. I even had one of them tell me that my swing has greatly improved (and it has) and that there's nothing really they had to say about what I could do... which is total BS. Money isn't really an issue - I just want to be able to find a pro that will actually give me a lesson; for example: I know that one of the top pros in the country is over at Deepdale golf club in Manhasset however this place is a country club so I can't get in and he also charges $500 an hour. Bluntly put, I'd probably be willing to pay the money if I could somehow book him to see if he is worth the paper, but I hope this explains what I mean by "being able to book the pro". I also know that the head pro and part owner of Drive 495 (private golf fitness club) in SoHo in the city is amazing, however it would be near impossible to book him for a lesson without paying the private health club a ridiculously high membership fee just to use their weights and Golfsmith launch monitors. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  9. I haven't taken it to the course yet but the range I hit at has a back fence that is at around 230. Before, I would clear it on 50% of my shots, and not by much, with the other 50% hitting it... When I went to the range and worked out the shift and the hips, the ball started clearing it to the point where the ball would disappear while it was in the air (I was there at night). I'm guessing maybe another 15-20yds? I'll know when I get to the course this weekend. I was supposed to goto the range today but deaded that idea after eating too much at dinner haha. Are you making good contact with your clubs? Late 2008/early 2009 I wasn't really hitting my driver at all - maybe 15 balls at the end of the basket just for fun. I suffered from an over the top move and my pga pro told me to line a box up parallel to the target line with the ball one ball's width from the box (between the box and me). This made me hit the ball from the inside and correcct my swing path - this by itself increased my distance... dunno just a suggestion..
  10. Why are you losing confidence in it? I think TM's have the easiest hybrids to hit.. if you're losing confidence I don't think you should move to titleist's as it's for lower handicapped players... Have you looked at Adam's line? Their peanut 2 has gotten rave reviews.. i'm actually going to go demo the Pro Black hybrid they're coming out with to see if i'm good enough to use it sometime this week...
  11. It most likely has to do with the fact that a lot of new clubs are coming out so people are holding off on their purchases to either wait for the prices to drop or to buy the new items.. personally - when it gets cold out I end up sitting inside and looking on line and getting tempted to ho myself out to more golf stuff!
  12. So my 3 wood is a 15* and I hit it about 235-245... I'm dropping my 5 wood because I can't hit it worth jack and want to get a hybrid that will be a good club between my 4 iron (24* - 205yds) and 3 wood.. Which loft should I pick on the hybrid? Gonna get the adams pro black: 16*, 18*, 20*, 23*, 26* I want the 18* but not sure if I want such a long-shafted club..... advice?
  13. This is exactly why I started this post - I feel that I always start my round out wonderfully when I get paired with random high handicaps but then if there's some bad tempo in the group it rubs off and ruins my ballstriking. My muscle memory isn't as programmed as it should be since I haven't been playing for long enough I guess. My handicap is what it is from my lack of practicing my short game. I'm working with a PGA pro and I get a lesson every two months (3 so far) and he gives me something to work on (usually with some sort of gadget) and I head to the driving range relentlessly to get it right. My driving range ball striking is solid now - I will hit every ball off of a range mat straight, or with a 5-15 yard draw to a hook. So I really want to be able to start bringing this to the course and I figure this will definitely help. I've gotten a couple of offers and I'll let you guys know how it turns out. By the way - I work in prime services right now at an IB, so I wouldn't be considered an investment banker.. was too much of a retard in college and wasted a ton of opportunities and second chances.. but that's another story. no excuses in golf and in life eh? Thank you all for expressing your interest and for your responses and feedback!!!
  14. haha - i just read IACAS's posting on the hip thing which was up before my posting.. oops -
  15. Ok - Been playing for almost a year now and my average swing speed got up to 98 mph after a year of intense ball-striking practice at the range. Couldn't get it up . I've been lifting weights, stretching, (even praying haha)- none of this has really shown much improvement in my swing speed (i've only been back lifting for about a month using a golf workout .. but still.. no change) So I knew that the reason why my swing speed wasn't increasing was because of my hips not pulling on my torso as they open up in the downswing. I would watch the pros open their hips, read it in magazines, blah blah blah. I watched that video on youtube of shawn clement demonstrating how your left hip needs to open up laterally, but I just couldn't get myself to open up my hips in a powerful manner . I found out my error was because I was using my hip muscles when trying to rotate my left hip open. It always felt awkward using my hips to open my hips and i was (foolishly) amazed at how the pros did it. I thought they were all rubber men. I end up picking up Jack Nicklaus' book and skimming it the other day for fun and i read something that may be obvious to you all but to me it kind of revolutionized my swing speed. Instead of trying to open my hips using my hips, I discovered that I should be opening my hips by using my legs, more specifically, by shifting the weight from the inside of my right foot to the inside of my left foot . You may say .. duh.. I've read this in a ton of places a million times BUT this is the first time it struck me. By pushing "down" into the ground on the inside of my right foot while shifting the weight to my left foot, my hips opened up both comfortably AND violently (in a good way) . I hit some balls at the range and really felt the difference. I ended up going to a launch monitor because I wanted to see the numbers because i REALLY felt it at the range... even when I toned the weight shift down to as smooth and slow as I could, my club head speed was remarkably improved at 103-105 (at least I think it's a huge improvement). I finally felt like I could totally relax my arms and let my legs dictate the entire down swing. I need to get used to this feeling now because there are sometimes that I relax my arms too much and I end up "standing up" way too early. But when I stay with the shot - it's like magic.... or the closest thing i've ever felt to it. This is a friggin revelation to me.. hopefully this will help others who have been struggling with their swing speed. Pushing down on the inside of my right foot while transitioning the weight to my left foot made all the difference in the world. I don't know if it's because my swing "leveled up" and that's why I finally realized or if it really was that simple the entire time. Personally I think i just got the majority of my swing down pretty solid and my body was ready and in the correct positions through the swing to really "push into the ground". Just when I thought I couldn't love golf any more than I already do.... Thanks for reading!
  16. I've read that you can do it as long as the shaft is made from a mandrel with a width of .335 you can sand down the shaft safely as there will be enough material since it means that they just added resin to the shaft to get it to .350 If it was made from a .350 mandrel then it is not advisable. There's really no way to tell what was used to make the shaft so you really shouldn't sand it down. You're set on this shaft? Do you mind me asking what it is?
  17. Old thread but I'm considering getting a driver (head only) that is tour issued from TM - If the above is true do you know why TM stamps their "tour Issued" clubs with the TXXX serial numbers? I'm just thinking that there has to be some sort of difference if they bother stamping these with the serial numbers? Otherwise, why wouldn't they just pull a box off the production line and use those to fit the tour players right? Plus - If i were taylormade, I'd probably want to try to create the best club possible for the tour players so they would be more inclined to use my product - i could definitely picture them just pulling and testing clubs off of their retail line before stamping the serial numbers and using the most "perfect" clubs, with the least deviation from specs for their tour players... do you guys agree? or you think these clubs are truly no different...
  18. it can also be your swing! you need to make sure an experienced fitter is the one who gave you the recommendation.. if you hit a lie board with a bad swing, it can come back telling you you should get 2 upright... an experienced fitter should be able to tell it's a bad swing though and fit you otherwise..
  19. Hi, If you're a single digit (or even better, a plus) handicapper and want a free round of golf at a course of your choice in the NY metro area, keep reading. I will pay for your round of golf and a meal plus drinks if you would be willing to play a round with yours truly (me). All you would have to do is play and maybe give a few pointers; I will not harass you with questions if I get the feeling that you would like to be left alone. If you'd like, you don't even have to talk to me but you must play in the same grouping as me and allow me to watch you swing from around a 20 foot radius for each of your strokes. (yes, this does sound creepy but it defeats the whole purpose if i can't watch and learn). Also you can bring someone else but i'm not paying for them too (unless they are a PGA or Nationwide Tour card holders, then I'll pay for both of you to play 36 holes each) I've been playing for about a year (in Oct it will be a year) and have gotten down to about a 16 handicap, but I am sick of getting paired up with people who are not good; it brings my game down after watching their swings for the first 5 or 6 holes. I'm dead serious about getting better and I think this would help accelerate the process. Plus I've always heard that the only way to get better is to play with people who are better than you. This, plus the fact that I really only have one or two friends that I play golf with, has led me to create this thread. A little bit about myself: I'm 26, asian, work at an investment bank, and goto the driving range for about 6-10 hours a week. Please reply to the thread or PM me if necessary. Sorry, but i'm not a part of a private club, otherwise, i'd invite you there. Oh yeah, if we go play and you end up shooting a 96, you're not a single digit handicapper - so please only people who really are skilled golf players and not "I can drive it 400 yards because I can type it in a forum" people. Let's just say if you come along and your round gets paid for and it becomes quite obvious that you were full of sh*t, I won't be happy. Thanks for looking! Regards, Alan
  20. Hi, Does anyone know if there were any technological updates made on the Ecco World Class GTX shoes for the 2009/2010 line from 2008? Reason being I found a really good deal on a pair from 2008 but I would not be interested if they added anything better to the shoe. It looks like they didn't but i just want to confirm. yes, I know the best way would be to try them both on but the 2008 is an online deal... Thanks! Alan
  21. It's most likely because they are new shoes and need to be broken in.
  22. Look out guys - they just busted a "global network of criminals [who] duped eBay customers into buying millions of pounds worth of fake golf clubs" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...MC-Bltn=AAQBGB
  23. Go get fitted and try different shafts - shafts will make all the difference. If you are currently striking the ball correctly then it is definitely the shafts. I play with Project X 5.5 and recently got a full fitting on a trackman and the fitter told me that my ball was ballooning. hit with KBS tours and the ball flight and landing angle immediately improved. Go hit some shafts and see how they work out for you.
  24. To go back to the OP's point before the thread was highjacked by MP: One exercise you can do is use a pilates ball and lie on it on your back with only your shoulder blades on the ball and your feet flat on the floor - similar to a bench press position with the ball as the bench. Use a weight (plate, dumbell, etc.) and extend your arms straight in the air (as in full extension when bench press). Rep by going to the right and left with your arms fully extended; this promotes seperation of your top and bottom while also increasing core strength
