  1. Yep, exactly right. I agree 100%. My personal game has elivated to a new level once I finally figured this out.
  2. I guess in that case it would work, but for myself doing it, I just can't see having any kind of consistency but to each their own, right?
  3. Yeah, many different ways to get it done. It's worked beautifully for me. What exactly is Utley's bunker technique? Same as all his other chipping techniques promoting more pivot on the backswing? I can't find any videos or anything of him actually teaching a bunker shot. How does putting it out of the sand work out for you? I can't imagine you have much success with it?
  4. Well, I'm a little late jumping in on this thread, but I figured I'd post anway with what my 2008 goals were (since cold weather is right around the corner) and if I accomplished them. 1. Practice with a purpose. Accomplished this goal. Worked much harder on my short game rather than simply mindlessly beating balls at the range. 2. 70 yards and in, practice, practice, practice. Accomplished this goal to satisfactory level for this year. I'm to the point where I'm more comfortable with these odd distances and have shown glimpses of being deadly. 3. Become a better thinker on the course. I've begun to really concentrate on thinking my way around the course. Looking at were I want to be on each hole and where I don't want to be and swinging with those two in mind so that if I miss, I give myself the best chance to save par or at worst bogey. 4. Control emotions. This is still a work in progress. I still have fits of rage at times on the course, especially when I'm playing nowhere near up to my ability, but it's very rare these days. I'm starting to learn that the more I keep my composure the better I play. 5. One sub 70 round. I accomplished this goal as a few weeks ago I shot a -7, 65 at Kearney Hill Golf Links from the blue tees. Sad part is that I missed three 4 footers for birdie, but nonetheless accomplished my goal and I'll be looking for more sub 70's in the future.
  5. It's a hard habit to break for sure. One I used to fight a lot. It basically just comes down to you trusting your swing and going out there and making a conscious effort to not swing the driver harder than 80% the whole round. Once you make yourself do that and realize that you don't lose much distance (and my even gain some with the better contact you'll likely make as a result of a smoother swing), you'll start to trust it more.
  6. Luckily for me I have a course with a practice bunker. I actually don't think greenside bunkers are that tough of shots though and don't really practice them much. Here's some steps to take for improved bunker play: 1. Open your SW face up and aim it at the flag. 2. Take a shoulder width stance with the ball placed off your left foot (for a right hander) 3. Open your feet and shoulers left of the flag. So now you're open to your target and your clubface is pointed at your target. 4. Swing along your feet line (out to in relative to your target line) and MAKE SURE that you do not decelerate on the downswing. You much finish the swing or else you'll leave it in the bunker. That's all there is to it. ;) Easy right?
  7. Yeah, been there done that. It's difficult to shake for sure. It gets to a point that you just know you're going to have a monster slice and you tense up because of it and try to guide the ball and it just doesn't work like that unfortunately.
  8. I've got the XLS and usually fight a case of the hooks with it. I was fitted for it at a very popular driving range here in Lexington with some of the best pros in the state. I actually hit the ball good with it while I was being fitted, but it's sense went downhill and I'm looking for a replacement. I realize that a severely closed clubface is causing my problems, but I don't hit any other club in my bag the way that I do this one, so go figure. The more I swing it, the less I'm a fan of it although I will agree, when I do hit one straight, it's hotter than any face I've tried lately.
  9. I had my Yes! Callie altered slightly. Ordered it 2 degrees up from the factory and once I received it, wasn't a big fan of the loft, so I had it delofted 2 degrees making the loft .5 (I think their lofts are 2.5 out of the facory anyway...)
  10. No swing thoughts before actually pulling the trigger. I just concentrate on getting square to my target. Once I start the backswing I simply concentrate on where my weight is in my right foot. From there, everything else seems to fall into place.
  11. I've got the MP 32's and this is the third season I've played with them. I hit A LOT of balls too and they are still going strong and I'll probably keep them for another 3 - 5 years before looking into having them refinished. I don't have any intention of buying new as I love the irons but after a while of use the chrome does wear down. The clubs I tend to use more than others are a little more worn looking, but majority of the clubs still look almost new. I think it really comes down to how you take care of your clubs. I have OCD with making sure they are clean, so that's probably why they've lasted and will continue to last.
  12. I wouldn't think so. Probably just that you're swinging a little harder with your driver and getting it off plane? Tourque has a little to do with the clubhead twisting but not that much and it definitely won't equal into a 30 yard push. If your ball starts off to the right you're just coming from the inside out and pushing it with a square clubface to that line. Could very well have something to do with shaft stiffness, length, torque, etc., but I'm guessing it's more to do with the indian than the arrow. :)
  13. I've got the Mizuno MP 32's and I'm pretty sure they look the best. ;)
  14. Nice! I'll check out their reviews. Thanks
  15. I don't see any post of your regarding the mark in the 2.6 model? Are we talking about two different putters here? ;)
  16. Ahh, you're probably right about that. I didn't know what that mark meant. Surely though they'd offer a "non-tour" version? I called the local golf store and they said they'd be getting them in Oct. 1, so that makes me believe they will offer a non tour version? I can't see your average golf store selling to many extremely high priced putters like the tour version?
  17. I'm guessing it's partly because of them wearing shorts. It definitely looks like you have less knee bend when wearing pants.
  18. Persimmon Ridge in Louisville, KY. 75.4/148. Didn't find it as tough as the numbers indicated though.
  19. Tech Support Coordinator and Web Designer
  20. I'm really liking the looks of this Scotty. I'm on the market for one and I had my eye on the 1.5, but now with this 2.6 model, I'm leaning toward it. At least before seeing it in person that is. I really hope it's not more expensive than the other models. I can't see the extra sightline dot behind the shaft really upping the price that much
