  1. The face paint builds camaraderie and plays a small part to help bring together people used to having to perform as individuals in the sport to now perform as a team and to support one another. I like it because it helps make the Americans appear and behave as I would expect in a fun event like this.
  2. Comcast cable's On Demand service has this, too. In fact sometimes you can find things posted there about a week before it's aired on Golf Channel. I watched most of the Hank Haney / Charles Barkely series in this method before it would air on Golf Channel.
  3. This is inspiring, thanks for posting. My yard is kind of small and a weird shape but I think i can do something similar. To the drawing board...!
  4. Thanks for the link, this game is a lot of fun!
  5. I've only been golfing for a few months and I found that I get butterfies while driving to the course every time. It usually goes away when I step out of the truck in the parking lot so I'm good to go when i get to the first tee.
  6. I was in your shoes last winter, you'll have a blast. You mentioned Dicks, they have some decent cheap beginner sets from Wilson for ~$200. That's what i bought to get started and it makes sense to get something cheap when you're learning the basics. The thing that helped me the most though was starting off with a series of beginner lessons, i highly recommend you do that when you can afford it. Check around your area you may have plenty of golf pros to choose from if cost is a factor. Good luck!
  7. Go out to your buddy's favorite course, take a family member or friend with you to play with and play a round in your buddy's memory. Take care.
  8. +1. Nice video explanation, demonstration
  9. PiKapp is spot on, it's the power supply (+1 to his/her rep). Frank, if you don't know what you're doing with the innards of a PC, ask your computer geek friend(s) to replace the power supply with one that will handle the power requirements for your system. Note that it's possible if the power supply blew it *might* have taken out part of the motherboard, ram pr proc as well. However, the good news is that every time i've had a blown P/S on one of my personal systems, only the P/S needed to be replaced. Good luck.
  10. This is a great idea. If folks are interested in flexibility/Yoga as an aid, and if you have the Nintendo Wii, then I also recommend the Wii Fit to supplement your workout. The games and exercises include many balance, coordination and Yoga type exercises that make it more entertaining and less like exercise.
  11. Right on! I too started taking lessons a few weeks ago from a PGA pro, though i'm a novice so we started off with the basics. It seems that it takes a lot of practice in between sessions at the driving range to work on the exercises so I'm definitely in agreement with you there.
  12. I'm going to dogpile on here. I too have been wearing glasses about 36 years, at first it'll seem weird to you. But it won't just be weird playing golf, you'll find a myriad of circumstances that just feel different than what you're used to. While driving you'll see highway signs appear different, while walking through a crowd of people you'll notice things in your depth perception you may not have realized otherwise, early on some of the more colorful adverts in magazines may 'pop' for you. Your peripheral vision will also be affected, but your brain learns to compensate over time until you don't even notice that you have glasses on. I'm sure it'll feel odd on the course as well. Give it some time and you'll be fine.
  13. I'm a Software Tester for embedded operating systems. It's technically challenging, sometimes stressful but at the end of the day it's fun and interesting. Hmm, kinda like golf?
