North Dakota/Minnesota SG4 user here that has had great luck with signals so far. Hope you get your bars back.

One thing I found to really help me with my fade is to maintain the flat wrist plane on the backswing. For instance, on the top of your back swing, you should be able to put a ruler or anything flat and rest it on the top of your forearm and there shouldn't be a gap where your wrist is...it should all be flat. This will promote you to release at the proper time at impact and less likely have a fade/slice. This worked for me...hope it helps.

recovering from sprained wrist
green6767 replied to doublesuited77's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I posted back in March that I actually broke my arm (the wrist is a "joint") while snowboarding in Tahoe. That happened on March 11 of 2007 and I was in a cast for 2 1/2 months. I was not able to even think about swinging a club for about 3 weeks after I got out of the cast. Even today after my rounds, I do ice/heat rotations with routine stretches to keep the soreness away. If you keep those tendons/ligaments stretched, there will be less the likelyhood of them tearing/unvoluntary stretching/breaking/etc. I have found that if you are experiencing pain after a round, ice is the best remedy. No more than 20 minutes of "ice cubes in a bag directly on skin" contact. Let it warm up slightly then repeat if necessary. Right after icing, what I do is heat it with a heating pad that just pops in the microwave to get hot. This loosens up all the stiff tendons/ligaments/cartilage. While its all warmed up, do stretches. Careful not to over do it though, stretch till you feel VERY minor pain then let off a bit and hold it. This also works WONDERS right before golfing as it loosens the joint up very well and I have found that my pain is MUCH less after/during a round when I take the necessary precautions before I even start to swing or warm up. Not sure if any of that helps you out, but I know what its like to injure your left wrist (im a right handed golfer) and trying to golf again. Not only did I tear ligaments and cartilage, but I broke the end of my Radius bone where it attaches to the hand (wrist joint) right in half. Its been a struggle, but if you take care of it now while the injury is still fairly fresh, you'll be less likely to have to deal with it in the long run. Good luck and take er easy!!! -
MP 60 vs Ping I5: Bounce Angle
green6767 replied to green6767's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well that about covered everything I was asking. Very nice! Thanks! -
I have about made up my mind that I am going from my Ping I5's to the Mizuno MP60's. I've hit them so many times on the range now that I feel comfortable with finally making my decision to go with the MP60's. My question is the bounce angle/degree. What does it mean? I was looking on Ping's website on the I5 specs and the bounce degree is higher by a lot more than the MP60's on all the clubs. (Ping has a LOWER number) What does that specific number mean? The lower the number, the less the ball with bounce???

I also vote for doing it yourself. I had my first clubs regripped by a shop and they charged $2 per club for installation plus the cost of the grip. I got them back and they looked like crap, there was solvent all over the grips, they didn't clean em and they weren't even centered. It was terrible. I told myself never again will I get my clubs regripped by another person...so I did some research and did it myself. I was quite surprised on how easy it really was. If you have the right supplies/tools, regripping is a great way to personalize your own clubs and get some self satisfaction that you did it yourself. Here is a link that helped me tremendously and it was all I needed before I tried it myself. Follow the instructions and get the necessary supplies and have fun!!! Good luck! Video swing analysis software - For Macs?
green6767 replied to tji's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The tv that I draw on is strictly dedicated for my golf vids...its a cheap, crappy one. Plus I use dry erase so they just wipe off. I have thought about Parallels to run on my MAC to get XP or VISTA or whatever Windows based operating sysytem, but I ran into so many issues with viruses and such on my previous PC, I didn't want to mess with it again...hence why I got a Mac...(viruses dont exist for their OS) and I would like to keep it that way. Im sure there is software out there for the Mac, I just dont know of any. -
Video swing analysis software - For Macs?
green6767 replied to tji's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Im also very interested in this too as I have a MAC. Normally if I do use a camera, I'll hook it up to my little crappy tv and get out some dry erase pens and a straight edge...has worked well so far, but some software would be great too. -
Do Golf Shoes make much difference?
green6767 replied to mcecki's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The thing I have found with golf shoes...make sure they are comfortable. If you like golfing in your running shoes and they are comfortable and you DONT slip at all......why fix something that isn't broken. With golf shoes, most of the time you get what you pay for. I love mine. I have a faster tempo and swing speed, so that extra foot traction that comes with golf shoes really helps me. I dont know what it would be like to golf in regular shoes anymore. All in all.....get a shoe that feels good! -
Driver Shaft to lower ball flight

haha...I think you are both right. My choice: LEAVE THE DRIVER SHAFT ALONE. -
Driver Shaft to lower ball flight
green6767 replied to green6767's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was using "high school physics" as a simple example. Im well out of high school physics but didn't want to get too involved...besides, its only a golf forum. haha. It was not meant to be taken as a direct relation of a golf ball flight with the added resistances and forces, but rather a slight comparison of projectiles...but thanks for the "clarification" anyway I guess. The more I think about this, the more I think it just may be my swing at times. I can remember the times when I was driving the ball and not even thinking about how high it went, this must have meant it was a suitable enough height for me to not even notice. I tend to over-analyze things when it comes to my golf game, which can be a good thing at times, but with this "problem" considered....it may just be a case of "leave your ball flight alone, its fine!". I appreciate the suggestions and opinions though. Thanks again. -
Driver Shaft to lower ball flight
green6767 replied to green6767's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yes, I was using those numbers purely to prove logically how physics of flying objects with velocity work. You are right on that launch angle of a ball with a driver. I already tee the ball pretty much so it barely above the driver face. I dont know...maybe I should tee it high, but Im always worried I'll get under it and all hell breaks loose and I end up with a nice big dent in the top. Crazy enough, I never thought about moving the ball back in my stance. I suppose I could try that but Im thinking its more the kickpoint in my swing. I dont need to lower that ball flight as much as I may have let on earlier. I could very well be trying to fix something that doesn't really need to be fixed. Maybe I was hitting it too low with my previous drivers and just got used to that kind of a ball flight. Thanks for the reply though. Im open to any suggestions as it was just proven, I can and will overlook the easier fixes. -
My driver swing speed is around 107 to 112 on average. I hit a stiff flex, 9.5 degree flex, OEM TM fujikura SuperQuad shaft. I dont like to swing harder or softer than that as I will get off track. My average carry plus roll is on average 270 to 280. Just today I busted two of my drives back to back to the 300 yard ranges. Doesn't happen very often, bout once per round or so, but the fact there was no wind, it made my day. Still gotta work on the "keeping it in the fairway" more often though.
-
I was at the range a while back and I had an older gentleman come over to me and ask me if I would hit his driver to see how far I could hit it. I normally hit a stiff flex driver. I took one swing with this thing and it felt like a whip in my hands. Due to my swing speed mixed with the shaft, the ball ballooned like crazy but dang was it fun to hit a driver like that and observe that kind of a ball flight. The older gentleman's club: TM R7 Draw with a "senior" flex shaft. Hope this helps, but it felt pretty whippy to me. Most whip like shaft I've ever hit. Good luck with the search.

Driver Shaft to lower ball flight
green6767 replied to green6767's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My short game is my strongest part of my game, thats why Im posting about my driver and not my putter/wedges. Im not a golf expert or anything, but I know my physics to the point where a slightly lower launch angle would be beneficial for me and my swing. Logically, a ball launched at 45 dedgrees with the same velocity/spin/force of gravity/etc will travel farther than a ball launched at 60 degrees and this is with the ball stopping EXACTLY where it lands. Maybe I "dont" know that I would gain distance, so I will "reiterate" my "hunch": I KNOW that I have a HUNCH that I COULD gain some distance by having a lower ball launch with LESS spin to INCREASE distance. I hope that makes more sense and Im still open for other suggestions. Thanks -
Driver Shaft to lower ball flight
green6767 replied to green6767's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I guess after doing some more reading, maybe a lower degree loft would do the trick and lower spin/increase distance in the process. One problem, I dont really feel like trading this driver in for a lower degree. 400 bones was enough for this one, so that is why im looking in another direction like the shaft. I would really like to find a fitter in my area or close to it...but I have no idea where the nearest one is. -
I just got my TM SuperQuad about a month ago and I LOVE it. Im hitting it further and straighter than any other driver I've owned. I have one problem I would like to fix though...ball flight. I hit a 9.5 degree, stiff flex OEM shaft right now, but my ball flight is much higher than I would like. I know I would gaing distance if I could lower it just a bit. I dont want to try and fix something in my swing, because I feel its consistant, comfortable, and pretty correct. I know a higher ball flight is preferred when its wet, due to a lower ball flight not getting as much roll, but most of the conditions I play in are dry. I know I should go visit a club fitter with a launch monitor but I live in Fargo, ND and there is no launch monitor is this whole dang city. Very frustrating. Also, if somebody knows of a club fitter near here, I would be willing to make the trip to get fitted for a shaft, but for the mean time...I need opinions on a shaft for my driver to take the ball flight down a bit.

I love my SuperQuad. I switched from a R7 425 Quad and I am verry happy with the switch. I hit this club further and straighter than any other driver I have owned. Comes off very hot off the face and the sound is pure excellence. The R7 460 is also an excellent choice. You made a great decision and Im sure you wont be disappointed. Good luck and BOMB it!

Help choosing between GPS and Rangefinder
green6767 replied to Jake2007's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just picked up a SkyCaddie SG4 today and absolutely LOVE the thing. Battery life is phenominal, accuracy is excellent, and the readout and options on the SG4 are beyond my expectations. The best part about it so far...it works on the range at the courses I play here. It has the different colored posts marked out on the range and exact yardage to them. I love it! I havn't played a round with it yet, but I will be using it tomorrow in a turney, so I can report back then tomorrow afterwards. The "intelli-green" feature should come in really handy. Like I said, I can report back tomorrow with a more detailed perspective if you like. -
Alignment ISSUES. Need help!
green6767 replied to Gregormendel's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Your friend has the right thinking. If the two clubs are EXACTLY parallel at address and about 2 feet apart, then those two imaginary lines will extend all the way to the target. The line from the ball with be right at the target, and the line from your feet will be 2 feet left of the target (right handed swing). Not sure where you're getting the 10 to 15 yards left thing. If your two clubs REALLY are parallel and 2 feet apart at address, then those lines are parallel and still 2 feet apart at the target. If I could hit 2 feet left of my target on every shot......I'd be making money from this sport. Personally I aim my feet at the target. I have a problem with closing my stance on accident, so I have to consciously make an effort to open up more at address. Good luck! -
Not to jack this thread or anything, but it might help the thread starter out as well...but, CG031: How do you like your hybrid? I have been wanting something to replace my 3/4 iron out of the rough and I love the looks of the G5 hybrids. I got the 3 wood for the fairway, tee, and LIGHT rough, but for a recovery shot out of longer rough, I cant hit my 3/4 iron for beans. Hows that club?
-
After a long search for a 3 wood (never have owned one), I picked up a Ping G5 3 wood stiff flex Graffaloy Pro Launch. I was amazed. I went out to the range and was CONSISTENTLY making great contact and getting that ball in the air. Carrying at least 200 yards and rolling maybe 20 to 30 more. Great club. Im still having a bit of a fade/slice problem, but its totally my swing right now, not the club. Quite easy to hit and for $219, not a bad price in my opinion. I was scared of 3 woods, they intimidated me. Not this club...I love it! Good luck with the search!

considering his handicap....yes....he must!
-
Well, I've been playing my Ping I5's for about 2 years now and I would like to move into more of a blade type iron. I'm a consistant 10 handicap golfer and actually in the process of getting that number a bit lower this season. I like the cut-muscle back of the mp60's and the thinner top-line look. I have a question though. What exactly would I be gaining/losing in the switch? Would I gain distance and playability? Would I lose some forgiveness? Those are about the only things I know of, but just wondering if anybody else has made a similar switch from cavity backs to muscle backs and their thoughts.

I broke my arm/wrist in March of this year snowboarding, so Im in the process of recovering from that still. I've have about 20 rounds under my belt so far this season, but I still get sore after each one. I ice it when I get home then put a heating pad on it to ease things up a bit then do some stretching of the wrist and Im good to go for the next day. Important thing is...dont ignore the pain. You may be able to play through it, but you have to think of the lasting effects. You might have to ease up now or take a day off or two, but you'll thank yourself down the road when you're ripping up the course as a 60+ year old, healthy golfer. Good luck with the injury!
