Hi there, About a year ago, I bought a set of TM Burner Irons with graphite regular shafts. Back then I got fitted for them, and the fitter told me that I was right in the limit between regular and stiff. I was hitting my 8 iron around 130-135 yds then, and the shafts seemed to work for me at first. I liked the regular over the stiff ones pretty much because of the feel of the hit. I´ve been taking lessons lately, and my swing picked up a lot since that. I´m hitting my 8 iron about 150-155 yds now, but I´m starting to have a lot of problems with accuracy, probably because the regular graphite shafts won´t fit my swing anymore. I´m also having a lot higher trayectory, maybe a little more than i´d like. I read on this forum that steel shafts help a lot with accuracy compared to graphite, and I´m planning to buy a new set (AP1´s or JPX-800, haven´t decided yet...you could help with that too!! ). The question is: if I get steel regular shafts, would I get any improvement in accuracy compared to the graphite regular ones I own right now? Or should I go straight for the steel stiff shafts?...would stiff give me even more control?. Thanks for the advice.

Custom fitting: Golfsmith or Edwin Watts....anybody??
-
Hi there, I´m planning to get custom fitted for new irons and a driver...maybe a fairway wood too. The thing is that I´d love to choose the best possible place to do it in the Fort Lauderdale area, cause I plan to keep this clubs for a long long time. My choices are Golfsmith and Edwin Watts, so the question is, which one would offer me the best and more complete service in terms of technology, helpful staff, club and shaft options, etc?. Thanks for your advice!.

Update for May 20th: 1. Break 90 at least 10 times Only one down, but shooting consistently in the low 90´s...not too far from breaking 90! 2. Don´t shoot over 100 more than 5 times Not this year...been in the low 100´s about 10 times 3. Master my new Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Will take some time but I´m getting better with it...shooting an average of 1.8 putts per hole right now 4. Improve my iron accuracy/contact Shortened my swing and improved a lot. Won a 6 burner iron from Taylormade and realized that I coukd hit way better with those irons over mine...planning to buy the whole burner iron set (early september) 5. Be at least 4 times in the top three on local tournaments Two down! Won first net score on a 3-day tournament (94-95-104 (rainy day)) and first gross score on a 1-day tournament (93) 6. Play at least 3 rounds triple-bogey-or-worst free (never done one!) Only one down, but making a lot less mistakes 7. Stop throwing/smashing my clubs! [/QUOTE] Got a lot better on this, probably because my game is improving!

How do you prepare for a golf tournament?
bakalao1 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
That´s absolutely right, I consider myself a good tournament player, and I have learned that the worst thing you can do before one is overtraining or getting obsessed about playing "the best round of your life". I work pretty hard until a week before, and then just try to relax, maybe train one day (four or five days before), but never the day before the tournament. It has worked pretty good for me to get a massage the day before, and getting into the steam room for a while too, that helps relaxing myself and play better than on a regular day. Also it is VERY important get a good night of resting sleep the night before, that will help you focus a lot better. -
I used to play a Ping G2 and decided to go for the FTiQ about a year ago. Is not easy to get used to the shape, but now I hit it straighter but not as long as the G2, though. I tend to ballon the ball and lose some distance since I barely get any roll, but still hit around 260 average (I have a pretty agressive driver swing, and use stiff shaft). It´s also true that my swing has changed since i used to play the G2, but still i think I could be somewhat longer if I played with a traditional shaped driver...I´m gonna get fitted for a Ping G15, and then compare ito see f it´s worth the purchase, cause I´d rather to lose some distance to stay most of the time on fairway...right now I average about 70% fairway hit.

I just saw the Callaway FT irons incredibly going from $1200 to $699 on TGW.com. I´ve been thinking on purchasing the 2.009 TM Burner irons, but with that price probably the Callys are a better choice...any thoughts on that?. Also, how come those irons went so low?? Is Callaway releasing a new model soon? Is this price going to be temporary, or will it give me the time to try both sets to make a decision?

I actually got my 6 iron a couple of weeks ago, and I must say it is a very, very nice club. I´ve been playing steel shafted X-18s for over 2 years and with the new burner I noticed a significant improve on accuracy and feel (don´t care for distance, since for me it´s all about choosing the right club, no matter if it´s a 5 or a 6). The club looks really cool too, I got a regular graphite shaft, which is, of course, a lot lighter than my x-18´s iron 6. I think there are some posters on this forum trying to mislead people on the quality of the burner irons set, which I personally think are great, and actually are a strong candidate for my next set purchase...probably around august. I can´t understand how somebody can say that technology is not an improving factor in the game, if that was true we´d still be playing those ugly little-headed wooden drivers, and those really heavy irons. Also, I don´t see why I should be playing my clubs until they get rusty and useless, that´s a pretty cheap thinking. If you like a set which make you feel more confident on your game, even if you play them as as good as your 1.9XX Ping Eye irons, and you have the money, why not going for them?. For me it´s like cars, you don´t run the same car for 20 years even if it runs perfectly well, if you have the chance to go for a nicer and newer one, why not doing it?. I know is not the arrow, it´s the indian, but I´m sure that golf companies I&D; departments are not losing their time on inventing more efficient technologies. Just my 2 cents...

I'm in the market for a new set of wedges
bakalao1 replied to Chipper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Got my new 54° vokey yesterday and went straight to the range....man oh man!!! what a sweet club, never had so much accuracy with my 50-75 yds shots, literally, on the half swing 50 yds ones I had my very first 5 balls shoot in a 1x1 yard area...I have a new favorite in my bag!. -
Vokeys come with Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips, those are really nice and give you a lot of control, also they are cheap, I think they go for $4 each one.

Staff Bags vs. Cart Bags
bakalao1 replied to R9Drew's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Just go for whatever bag you like!!. I used to have an old, ugly maroon Callaway stand bag, and decided to switch for a brand new 2.009 Cobra staff bag, which is really, really cool looking and I´m really happy with it. It is a little bit on the heavy side for the caddies, but since you use a cart most of the time it won´t be a problem. -

Titleist Vokeys are extremely good wedges, I used to have a 60° Cleveland and decided to switch for a Vokey 60-08... It is without doubt the best club in my bag, I have a slow swing and the ball still spins a lot, enough to stop on a dime. I ordered a new Vokey 54-04 last week, I´m planning to take my X-18 sand wedge out of my bag.
