You caught me. I took the second shortest podcast you guys have done (as far as I can tell) and made it my example. Not exactly a fair example, but it fit my needs Mostly, I guess I want more interviews with people in the industry as well as your own personal comments. I think your blog feed probably covers most of this, but you could comment on that stuff too. Would this be redundant - maybe a little. Yes, but it seems like everone's time filler I was being a bit facetious with that topic. I can understand that. I just put together a video at work that took me a week to do and ended up only being about 30 min long (and to be honest it could have used some more work). Fair enough!

To be honest, I haven’t walked for a couple years. I’m not lazy, or unable to walk (although I could probably definitely be in better shape), but everyone I play with rides. However, recently I was talking with a new friend of mine who plays a lot and says he likes to walk. I also like to walk. I actually play better when I walk. I think this is for three reasons: 1.I get into a better rhythm 2.I pay more attention to the course 3.I can switch clubs more easily because my partner didn’t just drive away with my set In addition to those pluses, I enjoy walking around the course. I think it has something to do with “being in nature”. It doesn’t hurt that it’s cheaper either. So do you walk much? Do you ever walk while others are riding? Do you play better or worse when you walk? Does walking slow you down or speed you up? I’ve had both scenarios happen and it usually has more to do with how close the other guy hits his ball to mine?

I don't think he'll win, but it's probably good for the sport that he's back in it. I ride, and miss it a lot right now. I've put on more than a few pounds since by bike was put back on the rack for the snow and ice. glad to see some other cyclists on the forum.

Best Inventions Ever
AbsoluteZero replied to denver_nuggs_15's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Golf is more than 100 years old, which is in the origional post. I think the following "inventions/inovations" have had the greatest impact on golf in the past 100 years. Oddly most of them have come in the last 15 years. Driver heads over 400cc GPS devices Nike Golf - Not a huge fan of Nike golf equipment, but they have definitely changed the face of golf and of innovation. the multi layer ball Caddyshack -
I just found the podcast about 5 episodes ago, and I realize it's a lot of work to put together a podcast, but if the Golf Channel can put together 30 min of nonsense each and every day for Golf Central, they you guys should be able to put together more than 9:42 seconds in a week BTW, in case that comes off as criticism, it's not. I really like the podcast and could go for some more of it. The equipment shows with Titleist were fantastic and I hope that other manufacturers get/take the opportunity to do it as well. Next I bet you'll say - well if you want more, what should we talk about? Well, I could use more discussion on: Equipment History Stats - Who's doing what Tiger Tiger Tiger the nationwide (not a lot, but you could make predictions on who's coming up) rookies to the tour this year next weeks tournament and predictions the forum forgive me if you usually cover all of this type of info, but I've only listened to about 5 shows and I was disappointed that after waiting a week I got less than 10 min of discussion. Most golfers can talk about a single hole they hit a birdie on for that long So let's have some longer podcasts. I mean it's only about 15 degrees right now where I live, so if I can't play golf I may as well listen to someone else talk about it!

I went to a wedding reception at the deer run clubhouse. Beautiful place. I've wanted to play there ever since. Maybe this summer I'll actually make it up there.

I wish I could do this more, but both courses near me have a limit of 5 visits per guest per year... yes, I could always use a different name, and yes I have done that before but I don't like the "I'm cheating the system" feeling I get. Do most private courses cap any one guest at 5 times per year?

I think all of the extra fees are pretty common. I've found that there are a ton of extras at both of the clubs here in town. Talking to members is a good way to find that out because it's not always listed on the club info. As far as the tee times, that's rediculous. I'd never join a club where I couldn't easily play just about any time I want. Of the two clubs here in town one will not have outings of any kind because the members have said the extra money is not worth the impact to tee time availabiliity. They also recently opened up Monday afternoon because so many members decided that having the club closed to golf for a whole day each week wasn't acceptable. I think it's really interesting how clubs are universally similar in some ways, but so different in others.

hey, Just stumbled across the forum a couple days ago and love the interaction. I live in Illinois and it's been a very cold winter with at least another month of agony (if not two), so I've been spending time hitting balls in my basement and dreaming about hitting the course. So far I've spent most of my time in the equipment sub forum, because I'm a bit of a fanatic, however, I firmly believe that most people (including myself) use the wrong equipment and would greatly benefit from custom fitting (which I have). My goals this year are to play at least 27 holes a week, which is tough with two kids (4 and 1.5) as well as some other hobbies, but I have a flexible job so I'm hoping to make it work. anyway, enough about me. I should go hit some balls.

I've been playing the wrong equipment!
AbsoluteZero replied to walfice's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I thought I read somewhere that 90+ percent of all clubs played are not the "right" clubs for the player. People always buy irons that aren't forgiving enough, drivers that don't have a high enough loft or the wrong shaft (stiffness or kickpoint), wedges that either have too much loft, or not enough bounce. So it's not suprising that after getting fit, you found out that there was better equipment for you. I'd venture a guess that almost every person who hasn't been custom fit has at least one aspect of their bag that's not right for them. I was cutom fit for my driver and went from a 9.5 degree to a 10.5 degree head and started hitting much longer drives. We could all take a lesson from the pros in the area of equipment. They get completely custom fit for their entire bag using launch, spin, etc. monitors that ensure they are getting the most out of their equipment. They change their loft, lie, length, shaft stiffness, etc, yet the average weekend duffer heads to the store and drops 1500+ on a bag of off the shelf items that are designed either for a really wide variety of players, or a specific type of player that they don't match. It's no wonder we keep going back year after year to get the latest equipment. Perhaps if we had the right equipment in the first place, we wouldn't feel the need to get new equipment each year... -
Good player's irons(sorry for another thread)
AbsoluteZero replied to Titleist Man's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
but he doesn't any more :) They are fantastic looking irons though. -
try http://www.golfselect.com.au/armchair/wallpaper.aspx pretty good stuff, although most of it is in australia, and none of it is really big resolution.

check out http://www.golfselect.com.au/armchair/wallpaper.aspx for a few - pebble beach, augusta, etc.

What is your Golf Related "desktop" background?
AbsoluteZero replied to Harry Longshanks's topic in Golf Talk
Love the topic. I've used http://www.golfselect.com.au/armchair/wallpaper.aspx quite a bit, but even they don't necessarily have enough resolution for my monitors (1680x1050) and (1920x1200). Bring on more pictures - especially with links to full resolution download locations. -
I'm not sure I've played more than 50 different courses in my entire life... I'm sure there are many people who travel a lot more than I do for golf though, so maybe more than 50 is beneficial to some. I guess what I'm saying is 50 is awesome! I like that I'd rarely if ever have to remove a course which means they are always going to be there if I decide to go play a course and not have to spend time syncing it up.

Both of our local clubs are running specials this year. Neither are completely waiving their initiation yet, but both are discounting the initiation. I think it's a great time to join if you are able.

Titleist Pro V1 Practice
AbsoluteZero replied to AbsoluteZero's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Best response I've received to a forum question in a long time. Thanks! Next time I should probably check the manufactures site first :) -
Where do you primarily play your golf? Do you belong to a club, or do you just hit all of the public courses you can? What are the benefits of each where you live? Where I live the private courses are pretty reasonable as far as cost, and they are 2 of the 3 best courses in town. The play is MUCH faster and it's easy to get a tee time. The biggest drawback I see is that I'd feel the need to always play there instead of trying new courses because members are essentially already paying to play there whether they do or not. They do have reasonable reciprocity, so that helps, but if I'm going to drive 90 miles I'm not sure they are any better than the clubs here. The best public course for 90 miles is less than 10 min away and it's under 50 with cart. It's an amazing course, but +5 hour rounds are common if you can even get a tee time on the weekend, and they have so many outings that playing during the week can be a struggle. Other public courses in the town are OK, but nothing you'd ever travel to play. So what are things like where you live? Do you have a membership, or at least wish you had one somewhere?

no Kidding. If I only lost one ball every 27 holes, my index would be single digits :) At one lost ball every 1.5 rounds I'd be more worried about finding the ball that best fit my game than I would be about cost. However, I do agree with the bridgestone recommendations. They have some really good stuff in their lineup.

I have the mx-23s. They are the best mix of player/game improvement club I've ever hit. They provide a lot of feedback and really reward you when you hit the ball on the sweet spot. They are my first set of Mizuno clubs, and I am hooked. I was a big callaway fan before these clubs, but the feel is unmatched in any callaway I've hit. If I were to replace them the MP-52 would be the first club I'd look to. However, they are old and discontinued. I wouldn't pay more than 200 for them unless the set had never been played.

Did a search and didn't see a thread on this, although I'm sure there is one. What's the REAL difference in the Pro V1 Practice ball. The kid at the shop told me they are the un-hit balls from the range at tournaments. This sounded a bit fishy to me since there aren't that many tournaments and I can't imagine they have thousands or even millions of balls left over to box up and send out. My assumption is that these balls are either like x-outs or just balls that they don't send through some sort of verification test to ensure they are compliant or something, but I don't know the real difference. anyone know for sure what the difference is?

forged irons and dings
AbsoluteZero replied to lugonza_2001's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Oh, by the way, just in case anyone is wondering. Forged Mizuno MX-23 irons WILL scratch the sole if your father in law takes a practice swing over concrete and makes contact... No one tried to duplicate the test on a cast iron. -
Restoring Scotty Camerons

I really want to send my putter in to the refurb shop. I have a studio design 1.5 and i really want to add my initials, take an inch off the length, possible modify lie angle, and most importantly refinish the finish (I have a bunch of spots in the finish). However, I just read that they won't take the Black Pearl back to Black pearl. Instead they take it to the Circa 62 (Charcoal Mist) finish. I like that finish, and to be honest, I get frustrated with the glare on my Black Pearl finish, but I'm hesitant to change it just in case I miss the old finish... Also, with all of my options, I think it takes it to almost the price of a whole new putter, but it would be MY CUSTOMIZED putter. Anyone refinished a studio design putter? -
Mizuno MP-52... quick opinion
AbsoluteZero replied to Nyper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Other than the MP-32s have you compared them to anything else?
